1. General

1.1 A Word about the Contents The operating instructions provide information which are preconditions for safe working with and on the machine. The operating instructions are predominantly targeted at operating and maintenance personnel. Operating instructions therefore have to be kept in the proximity of the machine. Every person dealing with initiation, operation, maintenance and repair of the machine must have read and understood the operating instructions, especially the chapter SAFETY NOTES before working on the machine. In the case of unclarities unigrind 's after-sales service depart-ment is at your disposal.

1.2 Warranty unigrind machines are designed in such way that their efficiency, operating safety and working accuracy is maintained for many years. This is only guaranteed, however, if the regulations with regards to operation maintenance and repair are observed. Problems occurring during the guarantee period are corrected in accordance to unigrind guaran-tee conditions. All results of unauthorised re-buildings and alterations are at the operator's expense. This

applies in particular to changes affecting the safety of the machine. In the case of unau-

thorised opening and repair work carried out during the guarantee period by the opera-

tor any guarantee claim expires.

1.3 Repairs These operating instructions are not instructions for carrying out repairs which require special knowledge or equipment. The unigrind after-sales department is at your disposal for extensive repairs or overhaul work. The following items have to be indicated in the case of all written or telephone enquiries or or-ders: machine number (identification plate the machine) part number of concerned part

2. Safety Notes

2.1 General Safety Notes unigrind ® machines correspond to effective safety regulations (machine protection law, work-er's protection and accident prevention rules). Nevertheless the machine can still be dangerous if utilised by untrained personnel or utilised inappropriately. Consequences of inappropriate operation of machine, in particular non-observance of the safety regulations, are: risk of bodily injury hazards for machine and assets of the operator Hazard advises are identified by a hazard symbol and are printed bold-faced in the course of this manual. These advises have to be observed without fail:

Work Safety Symbol

You find this symbol in all work safety regulations inside these operating in-structions, where there is a risk for the life of a person. Observe these instruc-tions and act with special care under these circumstances. Inform other users of all work safety regulations. In addition to directions in these operating in-structions generally valid safety and accident prevention rules have to be con-sidered.

2.2 Permissible Area of Application The machine type KSM 60 is only suitable for grinding of surfaces of wedges, valve discs and other flat machine parts i.g.(see specification in chapter 3). Any exceeding use is regarded as non-authorised. The operator is solely liable for resulting damages. The proper use of the machine also means observing and following the operating, maintenance and servicing intervals prescribed by unigrind.

2.3 Retrofitting unigrind has to be consulted in the case of retrofitting of equipment parts from external manu-facturers with regards to suitability of these parts. For safety reasons the operator is not allowed to carry out unauthorised changes and re-building on the machine. Changes or rebuilding which are carried out on the machine without unigrind 's written consent lead to a loss of any guarantee.

2.4 On-the-job Safety The user is responsible for that the grinding machine is only operated in perfect condition. This requires that the machine is repaired and maintained in accordance to regulations. Changes to the machine which affect safety have to be removed immediately. Any working modes impairing safety on the machine must be refrained from. In principle safety installations may not be disassembled or put out of operation. The following risks have to be expected in case of dismounting or abrogation of safety installations: serious bodily injuries (bruising, loss of eyesight) danger to life For all work concerning the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of the machine, turning-on and off procedures laid down in these operating instructions have to be observed. Moving parts may not be touched. Otherwise there is the risk of serious bodily harm (bruising). Safety glasses have to be worn during the machine process whilst staying in the proximity of the machine! Earflaps have to be worn during the machine process whilst staying in the proximity of the ma-chine!

6. Usage of unigrind ® KSM 600

The portable grinding machine is equipped with a grinding plate of diameter 600 mm, made from aluminium. On this grinding plate to be ground wedges of gate valves, wedge plates of parallel slide valves and other plain machines elements. The grinding plate works with self-adhesive, waterproof grinding discs of diameter 600 mm. De-pending on the requested quality of the surface grinding paper discs of various grit can be used. For changing the grinding discs the clamping lever has to be loosened and the guiding angle has to be turn round (anti-clockwise) until the grinding table is no longer protected by it. The guiding angle has two functions: - to guide the wedges or other valve components during the grinding process - securing against eventually slipping out of the wedges during grinding operation The guiding angle can be fastened according to the diameter of the wedges, to be ground, in three different positions. During the grinding operation the wedge has to be guided and hold by hand. The grinding machine starts automatically slowly up to its maximum of 47 rpm. When the grinder starts the wedge to be ground is held by hand without any grinding pressure, only to prevent side-slip of the wedge, and when the grinding disc has its max. speed then press the wedge against the grinding disc. After replacing the used-up grinding disc clean the surface of the aluminium grinding plate and re-move any adhesive particle.
