Changes to the LCD Panels Manual
In November we released the latest version of the LCD Panels Service manual, part number
9-883-805-A8. The manual was updated to clarify serial range information for models using more
than one LCD panel type in production with no other unique replacement parts. Because the
panels were a one-to-one replacement option our factories were able to use either panel during
production. This means that if the panel needs to be replaced, either panel listed can be used as
a replacement. However, the panels do not use the same TCON board so if it is determined that
the TCON needs to be replaced we needed to find a way to provide you with a way to identify the
correct TCON board. Our solution was to assign a letter to the Reference number associated
with the panel. For example, the KDL40SL150 model has 2 panels that can be used for
replacement. The reference number for the panel in the service manual for this model is 159,
therefore weve assigned the 2 panels reference 159-Aand 159-B. The corresponding TCON
boards also use these reference numbers so, as shown in the illustration below, PN 185723812
TCON Control MT Board is the replacement TCON board for LCD Panel PN 180280011.
Since you cannot determine which panel is in the customers set before you go on the service call,
we recommend that if you are fairly sure that the issue is related to the TCON board that you
bring both TCONs to the customers home, and then return the one that you did not use for the
repair.
We recommend a similar approach to the KDL46EX700. Although either panel can be used
without replacing any other major component, each panel uses different support brackets tosecure it to the bezel. Therefore, if the panel needs to be replaced we recommend that you also
bring the brackets that are associated with the replacement panel.
