Important: These instructions are to be used only in conjunction with the assembly, maintenance, and repair of the SST® Trailer TMA Manual Tilt Arrowboard Assembly. These instructions are for standard assembly specified by the appropriate highway authority only. In the event the specified system assembly, maintenance, or repair requires or involves deviation from standard parameters, contact the appropriate highway authority engineer. Energy Absorption Systems representatives are available for consultation if required.
This Manual must be available to the worker overseeing and/or assembling the product at all times. For additional copies, contact Energy Absorption Systems at (888) 323-6374 or download from websites below.

Proper assembly of the SST® Trailer TMA Manual Tilt Arrowboard Assembly is essential to achieve performance of the system under appropriate federal and state criteria. These instructions should be read in their entirety and understood before assembling the SST® Trailer TMA Manual Tilt Arrowboard Assembly. These instructions are to be used only in conjunction with the assembly of the SST® Trailer TMA Manual Tilt Arrowboard Assembly and are for standard assemblies only as specified by the applicable highway authority. In the event your system assembly requires or involves deviation from standard parameters or, during the assembly process a question arises regarding a particular step, please contact the appropriate highway authority that specified this system at this particular location for guidance. Energy Absorption Systems is available for consultation with that agency. These instructions are intended for an individual who is qualified to both read and accurately interpret them as written. They are intended for the individual who is experienced and skilled in the assembly of highway products which are specified and selected by the highway authority.
A set of assembly drawings will be supplied by Energy Absorption Systems. The drawings will be for each section of the assembly. These drawings should be reviewed and studied thoroughly by a qualified individual who is skilled in interpreting them before the start of any assembly.

Depending on specific site conditions and the complexity of the assembly specified by the appropriate highway authority, additional or fewer tools may be required. Decisions as to what tools are needed to perform the job are entirely within the discretion of the specifying highway authority, and the authority’s selected contractor performing the assembly of the system at the authority’s specified site.
Assembly
Step 1a:
Attach Receivers and Universal Platform to TMA using 5/8 x 3 1/2 pins, 1/2" x 3 1/2" G5 bolts, 1/2" lock washers, and 1/2" hex nuts. The Receivers must be 1461 mm [57 1/2"] apart.

Step 1b:
Attach Jacks to the Receivers in the Active position when the SST® is not attached to the shadow vehicle (See Detail B & Detail C-Active Position). Lower the jacks to provide additional stability.
Attach Jacks to the Receivers in the Storage/travel position when the SST® is attached to the shadow vehicle (See Detail B & Detail C-Storage/travel Position).
Step 2:
Slide the Platform into the Receivers, adjust to desired height and secure with 1/2” x 4” G5 bolts, 1/2” lock washers and 1/2” hex nuts. Torque to 88 N-m [65 ft-lb].

Drill 11 mm [0.44 in] dia. holes, 6 places into Arrowboard as shown. It is highly recommended to drill pilot holes first (See Figure 3).

Step 8:
Assemble Arrowboard and Support Brackets to Universal Platform
A. Strap and lift the Arrowboard with a forklift (See Detail 8A).
B. Attach Support brackets to Universal Platform as shown in Detail 8B. Adjust Arrowboard from left to right on the Universal Platform to achieve proper positioning (See Detail 8C). Torque all 1/2” fasteners to 88 N-m [65 ft-lb].

Step 9:
Adjust Stop Assemblies and Worm Drive Assembly.
A. Adjust Worm drive to achieve approximately 1/32” gap between gears. Tighten 3/8” fasteners to 25 ft-lb (See Figure 9).
B. Adjust Horizontal Hard Stop to achieve proper horizontal Arrowboard position (See Detail 9B).
C. Adjust Vertical Hard Stop to achieve proper vertical Arrowboard Position (See Detail 9A).
Warning: If Arrowboard flutters during transport, adjust Hard stops to create a downward slope (front lower than rear)

Step 10:
Operation:
A. To attach Crank Handle, angle as shown in Detail 10A
B. Turn Crank Handle counterclockwise to rotate Arrowboard to horizontal position and clockwise to rotate to vertical position (See Detail 10B).
C. To achieve proper Arrowboard travel position, continue rotating until there is slight pressure against the hard stop (See Detail 10C).
D. Remove Crank Handle and store as shown in details 10D and 10E. Secure with Retainer Pins.
