Pathway to Pay by Cell
Early 2010 – Pilot with Verrus.
Good initial results moved encouraged us to
create an RFP.
July 2010 – Launched pay by cell technology
system wide.
Our vendor was Parkmobile
3 year plus extension contract.
Initial adoption rate was 15%.
Rate grew steadily and peaked around 25%.
February 2014 – Transitioned to PaybyPhone
Technologies.
4 year plus a 2 year extension option.
$012.9 per transaction fee.
MBTA pays CC fees.
Electronic monthly permits.
Through extensive advertisement while
changing providers, the MBTA received a net
gain of 2,000 daily transactions in the first week.
MBTA was one of the first parking companies to go system wide with pay by cell technology.

MBTA included a clause in the request for proposal for local cities and towns to take advantage of the competitively low bid transaction fee of $0.129.
