    3Release Notes

    MapInfo Pro 12.5.3 Release Notes

  • New Features in this Release

    Tools and Applications

In MapInfo Pro 12.5.3 Maintenance Release we have added the following tools.

    CommandEditor

The CommandEditor tool allows you to edit the following commands' resources in MapInfo Pro.

Key gesture (Command keyboard shortcut) MenuItem text MenuItem toggle text ToolTip description ToolTip text ToolTip Disabled text

The MAPINFOPRO.MNU file is not updated by this maintenance release. However, we haveupdated the commands' resources in the MAPINFOPRO.MNU file which you can download fromwww.mapinfo.com/resources. You must restart MapInfo Pro for the changes to take effect.

    Note:

    SpiderGraph

The SpiderGraph tool creates lines between objects in a single table, or between objects from twodifferent tables based on a common identifier. For example, if you have Stores and Customers as twotables, and both tables have a store identifier column then the SpiderGraph tool can create a new tablewith lines connecting customers to their store.

The resulting table contains the lines as well as chosen attributes from the input table(s), along with acolumn that stores the length of each line. The lines can be color-coded based on their attribute of origin.

To obtain more MapInfo Pro resources and downloads, visit www.mapinfo.com/resources.

If you have already started MapInfo Pro before installing the maintenance release, you will haveto add the new tools manually.

    Note:

    Layer List Enhancements

The following enhancements have been made in the layers list for the Layer window and the Explorerwindow.

The Layers list now supports new keyboard and mouse actions, to make it easier to navigate throughthe list using arrow keys. As in the previous versions, clicking on a map name brings that map to thefront.

After you click on a map name, you can use the Up arrow key or the Down arrow key to move theselection up or down within the Layers list.

If you double-click a map name, the focus goes to the map window, so that the arrow keys pan themap. This gesture is useful when you want to put the focus in the map window, but you do not wantto click in the map window because doing so might clear a table selection.

Within the Layers list, when you use the Up arrow key or the Down arrow key to change the selectedmap name, that map does not automatically come to the front.

With a map name selected in the layer list, press Enter to bring that map to the front. Afterwards, youcan continue to use the arrow keys to move through the layer list.

With a map name selected in the layer list, press Ctrl+Enter to bring the map to the front, and put thefocus on the map (so that subsequent arrow keys pan the map). This gesture is useful when you want

    MapInfo Pro 12.5.34

    New Features in this Release

  • to put the focus in the map window, but you do not want to click in the map window because doing somight clear a table selection.

Minimized Windows now treated as Hidden

The main purpose of a minimized window in older versions of MapInfo Pro was to get them out of theway and in effect make them invisible. In MapInfo Pro version 12.5.1, we introduced the concept ofhidden windows. However, we ran into several problems. The minimized windows started to obstructthe status bar. In version 12.5.1, while reading a workspace created by older versions of MapInfo Pro,we bring up the normal windows as tabbed windows. But minimized windows are considered floatingwindows even though their non-minimized state would be tabbed.

Due to such issues and other inconsistencies, in version 12.5.3, we treat minimized windows as hidden. You can use the Window List or Workspace Explorer options to access these hidden windows.

    New Features in MapBasic

The following features have been added/updated in MapBasic:

Removing frames from Layout Designer windows

You can delete frames from Layout Designer windows using the MapBasic program. The RemoveDesigner Frame statement, which originally worked only on Legend Designer windows, can now be usedon Layout Designer windows as well. If the Window clause specifies a Layout Designer window ID, thestatement removes frames from that Layout.

If you omit the Window clause, the statement operates on the frontmost open window, that is either aLegend Designer or a Layout Designer window.

Altering Text frames in Layout Designer windows

MapBasic programs can now alter text frames from Layout Designer windows. The Alter Designer Textstatement, which originally worked only on Legend Designer windows, can now be used on LayoutDesigner windows as well. The MB Syntax is has not changed. But it now supports text frames in theLayout Designer.

The following statement can be used to alter the text string, font style, or text position.

    Alter Designer Text[ Window window_id ][ ID textframe_id [[ Text frame_text ][ Font... ][ Position ( x, y ) [ Units paper_units ] ] ] ]

If you omit the Window clause, the statement operates on the frontmost open window, that is either aLegend Designer or a Layout Designer window.

Altering frame position in Layout Designer windows

MapBasic programs can now alter frame positions from Layout Designer windows. The Alter DesignerFrame statement with the Position clause can now be used on Layout Designer windows as well. TheMB Syntax has not changed but it now supports moving frames in the Layout Designer using the Positionclause.

The Position clause in the following statement can be used to alter the layout designer frame position.

    Alter Designer Frame[ Window legend_window_id ]Id { frame_id }[ Position ( x, y ) [ Units paper_units ] ][ Title [ frame_title ] [ Font... ] ][ SubTitle [ frame_subtitle ] [ Font... ] ][ Columns number_of_columns ] |[ Height frame_height [ Units paper_units ] ][ Region [ Height region_height [ Units paper_units ] ] ]

The other clauses are not supported for layout frames.

If you omit the Window clause, the statement operates on the frontmost window, that is either a LegendDesigner or a Layout Designer window.

Refreshing Image frames in Layout Designer windows

MapBasic programs can refresh an image frame in a Layout Designer window if the underlying imagesource file has changed. The new Refresh Designer Frame statement can now be used to refresh imageframes.

Refresh Designer Frame[Window window_id] ID frame_id [, frameID ...]where, "window_id" is a Layout Designer window's integer window identifier. If no window is specified the command assumes the frontmost Layout Designerwindow."frame_id" is a number that specifies which frame within the Layout Designerwindow you want to refresh. Frames are numbered 1 to n, where, n is thenumber of frames in the layout.

As this is a newMapBasic command it cannot be used directly in a compiled MapBasic applicationusing the existing 12.5 compiler. It can be used within a Run Command statement in a MapBasicapplication or the .Net Do method in an integrated mapping application.

    Note:

The new projection #35 will create a version 1252 TAB, MIF, and WOR file. The other new datum numbers will create a version 1252 WOR and MIF file, however, they may notrequire a TAB version change to 1252 as they use an already supported ellipsoid. The TAB versionchange depends on other features used in the data, see MapInfo Pro help topic for "File Versions andTAB, MIF/MID, and WOR Support".

New Entries for the Malaysian Coordinate Systems

These are not included with the Maintenance Release, you can add the following entries in theMAPINFOW.PRJ file manually.

    Known Issues

    Issues with keyboard focus

There are some situations where the keyboard focus is not being set to the active window when movingfrom docked to tabbed to floating.

    Calculate Statistics

The Calculate Statistics command is missing in this release.

    Issue with dual monitors

Youmay lose floating windows whenmoving from twomonitors to one. On theHOME tab, in theWindowgroup, click Recover Off Screen Windows to restore the windows.

Issue with shortcut key in Layer window

In the Layer window window, the short cut key (F2) to rename a map may not work properly. If you selecta map and press F2, it highlights the entire text, but once you click inside the cell it turns uneditable.

    Issues with Layout Designer

When you have a large number of maps open, the Map drop-down list in the LAYOUT tab may not workcorrectly.

    Ribbon items not displaying properly

Items added to the ribbon when a tool is loaded through the Tool Manager do not appear when a mapwindow is in a floating mode.

View/Edit Metadata option does not exist in this version

The View/Edit Metadata menu option is not available when you right click on a map in the Layer Controlwindow. This option is present in the earlier versions.

CTRL + F4 does not close Tool windows.

Pressing CTRL + F4 does not close Tool windows. It does, however, close other document windows.

MapBasic types which contain strings may not be passed correctly to WinAPI DLLs in 64-bit

If a DLL function takes a struct type input argument, you can declare a type in MapBasic equivalent tothe API struct a function is declared. For structs defined with a string pointer member, there are problemscalling into the x64 WinAPI DLLs if you define this equivalent struct member as a String type. Instead, you need to define the struct member as an IntPtr type. For 32-bit MapInfo Professional, the equivalentWinAPI DLL struct could be defined with a String type.

    MapInfo Pro 12.5.3 Release Notes

  • Error message when accessing help from any dialog

Users experiencing an issue using the Help System after installing MapInfo Pro 12.5.3 should deletethe mapinfopro12_5_64bit cache folder under the AppData folder (for example,C:\users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\mapinfopro12_5_64bit).

Progress and Resolution of Outstanding Issues

    MapInfo Pro

    Description and ResolutionIssue Number

Exporting a map with translucent layer using bitmap fill patterns sometimes doesnot export colors correctly.

    MIPRO-39353

Resolution: Fixed. The exported images, from Save Window As, now look asgood as they appear on the screen.

    Error opening a WFS-Service in MapInfo Pro.MIPRO-42466

We write a WFS Table Description file (which uses an XML file type) to go alongwith the TAB file. The file contains information about the server, tables on theserver, columns, and any filters used. Due to an XML namespace issue, theMicrosoft DOM reader (and in turn MapInfo Pro) is unable to read the file.

    Resolution: Fixed.

The default output format for the DescribeFeatureType request (which returnsa schema with the table structure) was changed between WFS 1.0 and WFS

    MIPRO-50913

1.1. We were correctly using the new default if the server supports POSTrequests, but not if the server only supports GET requests. If the server also onlysupports WFS 1.1 and not the older schema format, it produces an error.

    Resolution: Fixed.

Oracle Spatial 12c : In the Open DBMS Table dialog box, do not show the indextables of type MDXT% .

    Resolution: Fixed.

    MIPRO-45949

Now any Oracle table name starting with MDXT_ are filtered out in the OpenDBMS Table dialog box. Users should not name their Oracle tables starting withMDXT_.

Inaccuracy in Ruler Tool when zooming in/out.MIPRO-41165

The issue with calculating the first point position to display the distance result inthe ruler tool as been fixed. We now calculate the position of all points identically, which produces more consistent results.

    Resolution: Fixed.

If the cutter/target object has some polygons with 3 points, the exterior polygonswere not getting correctly classified and some object processing operations likeoverlap calculations and erase were giving incorrect results.

    MIPRO-37789

    Resolution: Fixed.

The MWS file with an empty BitMap XML element created with MapXtremeWorkspace manager, fails to open in MapInfo Pro.

    MIPRO-49806

    Resolution: Fixed.

    MapInfo Pro 12.5.310

Progress and Resolution of Outstanding Issues

  • Description and ResolutionIssue Number

In some cases, MapInfo Pro does not show any data for columns type nchar andnvarchar from SQL Server tables.

    MIPRO-43994

    Resolution: Fixed.

Printing of transparent bitmap fill patterns to PrintOSBM.MIPRO-56808

Improved print quality of bitmap fill patterns for transparent backgrounds. Thisapplies for the Map windows that are being printed using the "Print usingOff-Screen Bitmap (OSBM)" print method, or for map frames in a Layout Designerwindow when the Map has enhanced rendering turned on. The bitmap fills shouldlook similar to the quality of the non-transparent bitmap fills, except that thebackground is transparent.

    Resolution: Fixed.

Provide option to print bitmap fill pattern without smoothing.MIPRO-56815

Added the ability to control whether bitmap fill patterns appear smooth or notwhen printed using the Print OSBM print method. The Map Option for "SmoothLines & Borders" is used to specify whether to smooth the bitmap fill patterns.Previously bitmap fill patterns were always smooth for Print OSBM.

    Resolution: Fixed.

Certain transparent bitmap fill patterns did not print properly. The output of certainpatterns looks slightly different when printed due to the addition of extra pixels

    MIPRO-57147

in the bitmap pattern. This is most noticeable with region fill patterns B4, D4, andC5.

    Resolution: Fixed.

Problems with printing certain hatch patterns to PDFMIPRO-14837

If you are using fill styles C1-H1 and you are printing to the PDF printer, youneed to set the correct option in the MapInfo PDF Printer . If your PDF outputhas fill styles that go outside the bounds of the region(s), you should turn on thefollowing option. In the MapInfo PDF Printer, Properties > Advanced Options >check Enable Postscript Simulation.

If you are printing regions that use fill styles D1, E1, or H1, and your Map Optionshave Enhanced Rendering turned on, you can now toggle smoothing on/off forthose fill styles. In the Map Options dialog box, use the Smooth & Lines to adjustthe display of those 3 fill styles. If you choose Anti-alias, the fill patterns will besmoothed (this was the old behavior). Now, you have the option to turn offsmoothing for those fill patterns by choosing None.

MapInfo Pro 12.5 crashes when registering a tool using TOOLTABL.DLLMIPRO-57366

The root cause of the issue was that the RegisterTool() signature was changedby introducing one more parameter for ImageUri in x64. As a result, a MapBasicprogram having the old RegisterTool() function call was causing MapInfo Pro tocrash because of signature mismatch.

    Resolution: Fixed.

A new function (RegisterToolWithImageUri) has now been introduced containingthe new ImageURI parameter. The ImageUri parameter has been removed fromthe RegisterTool function to support backward compatibility.
