Abu Huraira (ra) related that the Prophet (pbuh) said: Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven. Whoever prays during the nights in Ramadan with faith and seeking his re-ward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven. And he who passes Lailat al-Qadr in prayer with faith and seeking his reward from Allah will have his past sins forgiven (Bukhari, Muslim).

Assalamu Alaykum and Ramadan Kareem dear Community Members,

It is with much joy that we welcome the blessed month of Ramadan. We thank Allah, The Merci-ful, for giving us an opportunity again this year to seek His favor and His forgiveness during the holy month. Despite the long summer hours, our com-munity feels very excited this month to renew our commitments to Allah and His Deen, to reconnect with the Prophet (pbuh) and his teachings, to re-juvenate our souls and spirits and to rekindle our family and social bonds. At MAPS, we have been busy preparing for the Generous Month.

During this month when the Qur’an was revealed, we have a number of programs planned to deep-

-en our spiritual attachment to Allah, The Almighty. We will be having Taraweeh prayers nightly and Qiyam-ul-Layl in the last 10 nights. We are having a Qur’an memo-rization competition. Ar-Rahmah Academy will start a Qur’an intensive course for several age groups. Precious Hearts will start a Ramadan Enrichment class for ages 4-6 and ages 7-10. And many more programs are being planned by various committees and groups. Please visit www.mapsredmond.org for the latest program sched-ule and information.

During this Month of fasting, we will be having daily Iftaars for singles, Friday and Saturday Iftaars for the whole community and one inter-faith Iftaar for our non-Muslim friends and neighbors. The mosque will be opened for long hours and on many days for 24 hours. To that effect, we are preparing the building nicely. We have been accelerating our projects and have put two commercial grade playsets on the east side of the build-ing, opened up a state-of-the-art library and constructed a modern coffee bistro and seating area. We are also repainting and recoating the mosque, cleaning up the landscaping, adding furniture to the lounge area and redecorating the halls.

Let us all strive to reap the best rewards during this month. Let us all make an effort to fast, increase our prayers, do good deeds, stop our bad habits, ask for Al-lah’s forgiveness, beg for His mercy, forgive those who may have wronged us, thank those who have helped us, reconnect with our parents and relatives, assist those in need and establish our mosque and community.

More specifically, I am asking all of our community to do 3 + 3 things this Ramadan: Personal 3:• Encourage your kids to fast, even if for a few hours, and have a few Iftaars with your family• Memorize one Surah of the Holy Qur’an• Spend some time praying alone in the middle of the night Community 3:• Attend at least a few Taraweeh and Qiyam-ul- Layl prayers at MAPS• Attend at least one community Iftaar at MAPS• Donate some money to MAPS for the poor or to upkeep and grow our mosque; fulfill your pledge

“Let us all make an effort to fast, increase our prayers, do good deeds, stop our bad habits, ask for Allah’s forgiveness, beg for His mercy, forgive those who may have wronged us, thank those who have helped us, reconnect with our parents and relatives, as-sist those in need and establish our mosque and community. “ -Mahmood Khadeer (MAPS President)

The Messenger of Allah came out to us for one of the two later prayers [Thuhr, Asr], carrying Hasan or Hus-sein. The Prophet SAW then came to the front and put him down, said Takbir for the prayer and com-menced praying. During the prayer, he performed a very long prostration, so I raised my head and there was the child, on the back of the Messenger of Allah, who was in prostration. I then returned to my pros-tration. When the Messenger of Allah had offered the prayer, the people said: “O Messenger of Allah! In the middle of your prayer, you performed pros-tration and lengthened it so much that we thought either something had happened or that you were receiving revelation!” He said: “Neither was the case. Actually, my grandson made me his mount, and I did not want to hurry him until he had satisfied his wish” (Reported by Nasaa’i, Ibn Asaakir, and Haakim).

The Messenger of Allah would pray holding Umaamah bint Zaynab bint Rasoolillaah. He would put her down when he prostrated, and then pick her up again when he stood up (Reported by Bukhari and Muslim).

The Prophet SAW said: “When I stand for prayer, I intend to prolong it, but on hearing the cries of a child, I cut it short, as I dislike to trouble the child’s mother” (Reported by Bukhari).

These hadiths illustrate how natural it was for babies, toddlers, and children to be part of the Prophet’s Masjid. The Prophet (pbuh) understood the nature of children and cared for their needs and comfort in the Masjid.

Children thrive where they feel a sense of belonging. If we want our children to feel they belong in the Muslim com-munity, they must feel welcome at the Masjid. Children gathering or playing with friends are not signs of a rowdy Masjid or misbehavior. They are signs of a flourishing community in which children are building friendships that will connect their hearts and minds to the Masjid.

At the same time, a Masjid is a place where people come to spir-itually connect with Allah SWT and expect a peaceful, quiet environ-ment to worship, pray and reflect. When children are running around or being loud during the prayers, it can distract worshippers from

TIPS TO ACCOMODATE CHILDREN IN THE MOSQUE

MAPS is hiring several babysitters throughout the month of Ramadan. We are planning month-long activities and crafts for all children who attend. There is no fee to drop children with the babysitters. Please make use of these arrange-ments. If you children are not praying by your side, they

Remember that MAPS has a separate Mother-and-Kids room and another Father-and-Kids room. These rooms are safe and both have live video and audio feeds of the prayers. Please use these rooms if you are praying with your children.

Instead of staring at a father as he runs after his energetic toddler or a mother as she struggles to calm a quiet baby, offer to help. A polite “can I watch your son while you pray” or “would you like me to hold that diaper bag” earns Sad-aqa for you and helps parents control their children

The Masjid has the responsibility to provide frequent friendly reminders for parents and children on the rules and manners of the Masjid. These announcements can be boring and even irritating but please understand that they are needed and help communicate the message.

Here are a few tips for accommodating children at MAPS this Ramadan:

Anas bin Malik relates that “the Prophet did not use insults or bad language or curse” (Reported by Bukhari). Our duty is to remind children gently about the etiquettes of the Masjid. Children of all ages will stop and listen to a per-son who smiles, says Salam, chats with them, and shows

In case of misbehavior, show respect to others: consider removing the child from the Main Hall and moving to other designated areas for Father/Kids and Mother/Kids rooms. If you expect the child to make noise, sit near the exits, so you can leave the Main Hall in a hurry.

Organizations serving the community rely on our generous donations during Ramadan to raise funds for their operations throughout the year. These fundraisings also provide a channel for the community to fulfill their Zakat/sadaqa obli-gations and benefit from the increased Thawab during the blessed month.

Instead of having fundraisings every weekend night, we are transitioning to a model to stream-line and optimize everybody’s experience during taraweeh prayers. MAPS will hold total of four (4) fund raisings throughout the month of Ramadan during taraweeh prayers and one after Jummah, as follows:

GROUP 1 – JUNE 10TH - NATIONAL OR-GANIZATIONS

These organizations do relief and development work across the world including Africa, Middle East, and Asia. 1. Amoud Foundation2. Kinder USA3. Zakat Foundation of America4. Islamic Relief USA

GROUP 2 – JUNE 18 - LOCAL ORGANIZATIONSThese are local organizations which were selected for diversity of their impact (charity, advocacy, education, and local Islamic center). 1. Al-Saddaqa2. CAIR Washington3. Medina Academy4. Islamic Center of Kent

1. Islamic Center of Kent has been serving the Muslim community on the South Seattle corridor since early 90s. The current masjid operates out of two separate buildings one each for men and women.

2. The community has plans to build a combined masjid to accommodate 600 - 650 musallees. This is planned to be done in two phases and the required county & city permits are being obtained. The overall design finalization is also in pro-gress with experienced architects and engineering firms engaged.

3. The high level estimate for first phase of the masjid complex is ~ $5 Million

4. The community purchased an adjacent building early last year to be able to have full access to the access way that divided the two properties. There is cur-rently an interest free payment plan for this property with the seller. The plan for this building is to be refurbished to be an Islamic School in the future.

5. We currently have ~ $850,000 outstanding payments on the newly acquired building - payable as $25,000 per quarter.

6. The estimate for converting the building into a school is ~500,000.

7. We request you to help us with both these initiatives. You may denote you gen-erous contributions to be for the New Masjid Complex or the New School Project or as generic contribution towards both.
