The school year for 2018 has drawn to a close and we thank the board, staff, students and parents who have supported us and the College in so many ways this year.

We wish our students and families an enjoyable holiday to unwind and relax and look forward to seeing everyone back full of energy, enthusiasm and passion at the beginning of February.

As a school we look forward to seeing the grades students obtained and celebrating their success with them. All senior students are able to log onto the NZQA website to check their results in mid January, provided they have registered. Please encourage your student to do this if they haven’t already.

Congratulations to the many students who were acknowleged with an award at middle school prizegiving. It was a lovely celebration, made event better by the large presence of parents supporting their students. Thank you for taking the time out to do this, your students really do love having you there to celebrate their achievement with them.

Advent comes from the Latin word meaning "coming." Jesus is coming, and Advent is intended to be a season of preparation for His arrival. While we typically regard Advent as a joyous season, it is also intended to be a period of preparation, much like Lent. The purple colour associated with Advent is also the colour of penance. Prayer, penance and fasting are appropriate during this season, but Advent is not as strict as Lent, and there are no rules for fasting, it is meant to be a period of self-preparation.

While Advent is certainly a time of celebration and anticipation of Christ’s birth, it is more than that. It is only in the shadow of Advent that the miracle of Christmas can be fully understood and appreciated, and it is only in the light of Christmas that the Christian life makes any sense. The promise for Israel and the promise for the church is Jesus Christ; he has come, and he will come again. This is the essence of Advent.

We wish everyone in Marcellin College a very blessed and joy-filled Christmas where we have time to spend with family and friends, and remember the God who comes to save us.

2019 Prefect Camp

Our prefects for 2019, along with the Senior Leadership Team, enjoyed two days of reflection at Kokako Lodge. Here they learnt more about the Marist Values, and working together as a cohesive team. Our prefects are certainly ready to take on the responsibility and challenges of prefectship in 2019.

Middle School Prizegiving

The year ended with a wonderful prizegiving ceremony for our Middle School on Thursday 6 December. Congratulations to all our students who have worked so hard this year and we look forward to seeing you all in 2019.
