Once these acts of pure goodness imbued in our system and in our lifestyle, we can say that doing good and being good is something that is not really hard to do. We are virtuous. Good life is embracing what is true, simple and pure. Part of it is finding contentment in our lives, being open to changes and letting go of things that are not meant and proper for us. Being conscientious is also part of being good, having a constant awareness that there is Someone watching us in all we do. In all our undertakings and dealing, let us be honest. As we look forward to Easter, let us embrace the light. Radically, let us leave our comfort zones and walk into a life of truth, honesty, sincerity, simplicity and where our souls would be in peace. Let us embrace the idea of striving for heaven with Christ and let go of the earthly things that would keep us in the dark by being good and doing good.

Strive to Be Good!Joy H. Gefes

Its easier to do not so good things rather than to do good. To lie, pretend, deceive, to be self-centered and even to steal especially when we are not being caught. They would reason out Its easy for us to do it because nobody sees us. But, think again, there is Someone up there Who sees our every move and knows our thoughts before they are acted upon.

To save us from being pretentious, liar, deceiver, self-centered and thief is the reason why Christ has to offer Himself on the Cross. These sinful behaviors make someone look good in some ways. Those who are used to doing these things make them think that they could go on living such a life in darkness believing that no one will recognize their real self and even discover their dark secrets.

Little do they know that not all secrets, especially that bad ones cant be kept forever. It is just like keeping a dead rat, the smell would come out sooner or later in a time when you least expect it.

Pretending to be someone we are not, only to be accepted in society or in a community or to have a network of people we can boast about all the things we know is hazardous. These people will not stick with us when we need real friends to help us through life because they are not even true to themselves.

Lies make others feel good. For them it is their coping mechanism to have short term detachment from their dark, ugly side. Others simply lie to protect themselves, especially their ego to make them look good or simply feel good. They do not even think of the

consequences it can cause others. Self-centeredness gives

happiness to the selfish. It boosts their morale,

gives them power to oppress, bully

and cheat others. They only think of themselves to make them be known, they use power to seek

    revenge, and to show off.

But little do they know that this is short-lived. When tables turn and when the truth comes out, they will surely have a very big fall. A sure big bukol as we say it in dialect.

Thieves steal other peoples hard earned properties, savings and even ideas. They lurk around to get someone elses sweat and hard earned gain. Laziness makes people steal and they just want to get things easily.

Aside from properties and savings, ideas can also be stolen. This is the reason why we have the copyright law, laws on plagiarism, and other rules on editing that we have to abide. Editing has its limitations. When we take-out an authors idea, we steal his ideas in his write-up if we dont recognize its source.

Christ on the Cross would always be a continuous reminder for us to STRIVE TO BE GOOD and TO DO GOOD. Christ did not come down to condemn us, BUT TO SAVE US. This does not mean, however, that we can keep on doing bad things and say, anyway, Christ will save us. This attitude is arrogance and stubborness.

Every day we should live a good life, a life of goodness that comes from the heart. We should act with much sincerity.

Nga-a nga kon kaisa ginatawag ini nga Pagkompesar, kag kon kaisa Pagpahauli, kag may ara man kon kaisa nga ginatawag ini nga Sakramento sang Penitensya.

pagselebrar sang Sakramento sang Pagpahauli.

    (May kasugpon)*****

Ining Ikap-at nga Domingo sang Kwaresma ginatawag nga Domingo sang Laetare, kon sayuron, pagkasadya.

In the season of Lent, we Catholic Christians exercise fasting and abstinence. But do we really understand what these two words mean? Do we really practice these as offerings

to God, or just obligations to be fulfilled? Do we exercise these in our lives? If you ask me, I am not knowledgeable even of the meaning of these two words before.

But now that I am working in the Church, these practices become clearer to me. Fasting is a form of penance that imposes limits on the kind or quantity of food or drink we take. We should only take one full meal and two smaller meals a day; while abstinence is a form of restraining oneself from eating, doing or enjoying something (not eating or drinking at all). Days of fasting and abstinence for the universal Church are are observed during Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, and abstinence is also observed during all Fridays of Lent.

According to Pope Francis, fasting must never become superficial or for exterior faade only. He often quotes the early Christian mystic John Chrysostom who said: No act of virtue can be great if it is not followed by advantage for others. So, no matter how much time you spend fasting, no matter how much you sleep on a hard floor and eat ashes and sigh continually, if you do no good to others, you do nothing great.

Indeed, abstinence and fasting must not only be about food, but also it is about the things that please us. It may be foods, watching movies, shopping, travelling, surfing the internet, sexual intercourse, etc. During this season of Lent, we are invited to love more.

Lent is the perfect time to learn how to love again. We may have experienced

sufferings and hurt by others, but this is the time to forgive them also. Remember that Jesus died for us to be saved and forgiven. Now is our time to forgive. Im sure we will not forget those times when we were down because it was when we learned how to stand up again. Those times taught us many lessons and made us the best person God wants us to be.

Aton gintudlo sa ila ang topiko nga Leadership in a MKK Culture kag Spirituality of Leadership.

March 1, 2015. Residents of Brgy. Tabuc Suba-Ilaya, where the Our Lady of Salvation Chapel is located, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Colegio de San Jose-Children of Mary (CSJ-COM) members by awarding them Certificates of Recognition for their selfless service to the less-privileged children of Brgy. Tabuc Suba-Ilaya, Jaro, Iloilo City.

The day started with a Holy Mass presided by Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon. Later on, the CSJ-COMers were acknowledged one by one and received the Certificates of Recognition through Mrs. Ma. Lourdes Alquisada, BAC Worship Coordinator of Brgy. Tabuc Suba Ilaya and Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon.

A meeting was held between the Children of Mary members from Brgy. Tabuc Suba and Colegio de San Jose and the residents of the barangay led by Mrs. Ma. Lourdes Alquisada, where they talked about the next formations and Catechism that they will be holding for the coming months in Tabuc Suba.

Indeed, doing pastoral work was never that easy, especially for the youth. But through the hard work, cooperation, compassion, love for the poor, the willingness to serve and faith in God really pushed this organization to have a successful and meaningful activity for the children who desire to know Christ. The entire burden and pain felt were reduced, and the event became an unforgettable memory.

    To Jesus with Mary.

    scourging at the Pillar

Lent is a time for meditation on the sufferings of Jesus Who came down from heaven to save us from the eternal fires of hell.

While God the Father was looking down the earth one day, He noticed that His children had become victims of sinful living. The values He instilled were vanishing fast due to the desire of the fallen angels who wanted to bring all humans into hell with them. A sacrifice was needed something that could only be done by our Creator. Since Jesus, the only Son of the Father had the power to redeem us, He had to come down to earth and offer His life for our salvation. Since Jesus is God, He couldnt feel the pain, and so His Father, sent Him down to earth as man so that He would feel all kinds of suffering.

For thirty three years, Jesus lived as man, with some disciples and apostles following Him. There were twelve who became very close to Him and followed Him wherever He went. One of the twelve, Judas, became

    Pureza D. Lacuesta

materialistic and he always wanted to have money.

After some time many people became tired of Jesus teachings and they wanted Him killed. Since they did not know Him personally, they bribed Judas with a bag of coins, who betrayed Jesus while He was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Binding His hands with a rope, they brought Him to the Roman Governor, Pilate, and accused Him of disturbing the peace of Rome. They shouted: Crucify Him! Pilates wife, who was standing nearby, tried to dissuade Pilate from pronouncing the death sentence, telling him of her dreams the previous night that Jesus was innocent. However, Pilate was afraid that he would be deprived of his throne, so, he ordered the soldiers to tie Jesus to a pillar and to whip him. He thought that they would stop their cry for crucifixion if they saw Him dripping with blood.

Four soldiers chopped down one of the

pillars and let Jesus lie across. They wanted to preserve His legs for the trip to Calvary. Each soldier got a leather thong with six pointed spikes at the end. They beat Him seventy-seven times, letting the spikes penetrate. When He was brought back to Pilate, He thought that they would pity Him. A chair was given to Him, a scarlet cloak was drawn across His back, a scepter was given to Him, while a soldier got a vine having sharp thorns and pounded it on His Head. They then shouted: Behold! The King of the Jews!

If they expected pity from the people, they were wrong. Crucify Him! Crucify Him! The shouts demanding His death were too demanding for Pilate to stop, and so, He or-dered the trip to Calvary for Jesus crucifixion.

A patibulum, the horizontal beam of the cross was placed on His shoulders, and His trip started.

Is there love greater than this? What proof do we need to show Gods love for His children?

The Parish scholars Monthly FormationMa. Isabel Noriega

Medical Missions and Senior Citizens fellowship. These are some of the Parish Social Action Ministry programs where you can see young people helping and facilitating. They are the parish scholars. As a scholar of the parish, it doesnt just mean that theyll maintain good grades, join in the parish activities and work on their assigned duties. But, they are also made to develop a close relationship with their co-scholars as well as build a strong and deep relationship with God through meetings and formations.

The Jaro Parish scholars had a monthly formation last March 8, 2015 at two oclock in the afternoon together with Fr. Nathaniel Gentizon, their Spiritual Director as facilitator. Before Father Nath came, we asked one another about our agenda. When Father Nath arrived, he started the meeting with a prayer. We were shocked when he told us to take out our pens

and handed us piece of paper. We were all wondering because, usually, on our previous formations, we discussed about our school standing and accomplishments as scholars.

In my 3 years as a scholar, that was the first time I took an examination and its like were taking a final exam. Well, Im not serious and its just an expression. We were all not prepared but I found it exciting. It was a test on what we know about God and how we are close to Him. As the test went on, we felt different emotions. Some were smiling, some were worried, and some were frowning for they already forgot the answers. Next, we checked our own paper and when we found out the result, we found ourselves laughing. We laugh at others and even at our own mistakes because our answers were very far from what was being asked. When

we counted our scores, it didnt matter to us. What mattered most was that we learned from our mistakes, and as we learned we also grew spiritually. Our spiritual life grows in the sense that the more we know about God, the more we are getting closer to Him.

As we reach the end of our meeting, Fr. Nathaniel asked us if we were encountering difficulties or problems regarding our studies which could affect our grades. And praise Jesus, we all do well in school. He never left our side. We also discussed about the proposed plans for our scholarship and we ended our formation with a prayer.

May the parishioners continue to support the Scholarship Program of the parish, for we, the parish scholars, will continue to strive hard for our goals, be an inspiration to others and continue to serve God in returning the favor and graces that He continuously gives us.

The great role of fatherhood is opting for a relationship on par with their children with psychological support

and moral backing which they need to successfully get through the precarious stage of childhood and early adolescence. Today we are experiencing the crisis of a fatherless society. We notice ever more clearly the need to be able to count on fathers who can fulfill their role, combining tenderness with seriousness, understanding with strictness, camaraderie with the exercise of authority, because only in this way will children be able to grow harmoniously, overcoming their fears and preparing themselves to meet courageously the unknown factors in life.

Joseph and his most chaste spouse, the Virgin Mary, did not abdicate the authority

that was theirs as parents. It is very significantly said of Jesus in the Gospel: . . . and he was obedient to them (Lk 2:51). A constructive obedience, the Child progressed steadily in wisdom, age and grace before God and men (ibid. 52).

In this human growth Joseph guided and supported the boy Jesus, introducing him to the knowledge of the religious and social customs of the Jewish people and getting him started in the carpenters trade. This is an aspect that I feel compelled to stress today: Saint Joseph taught Jesus human work, in which he was an expert. The Divine Child worked beside him, and by listening to him and observing him, he too learned to manage the carpenters tools with the diligence and the dedication that the example of his foster father transmitted to him.

This too is a great lesson, beloved brothers and sisters: if the Son of God was willing to learn a human work from a man, this indicates that there is in work a specific moral value with a precise meaning for man and for his self-fulfillment. This role Saint Joseph recognized and accepted in his life, transmitting to the young Jesus who was growing at his side the spirit of joyful readiness with which he resumed his daily task every morning. For this too Saint Joseph stands before the Christian people as a shining model of life, to whom every father can and must look in the concrete choices that are imposed upon him by the responsibility of a family. Call on St. Joseph.
