RI CHEFS & RESTAURANTS STAND OUT ON

AWARDS SEMIFINALIST LISTS

The James Beard Foundation 2012 Restaurant and Chef Award Semifinalists were an-nounced this morning and a number of Rhode Island chefs and restaurants are included on this year’s list. The semifinalists in our area are:

Best New Restaurant: The Dorrance

Outstanding Bar Program: Cook & Brown Public House

Rising Star Chef of the Year: Benjamin Sukle of The Dorrance

Best Chef: Northeast:

1. Matt Jennings of Farmstead / La Laiterie 2. Champe Speidel of Persimmon 3. Sai Viswanath of DeWolf Tavern

The Semifinalists will be narrowed down to a list of finalists on March 19 and then

winners will be announced at the Awards Gala in New York City on May 7 in what is

essentially the Oscars® of the food world. For the complete list of semifinalists you can

view the Foundation blog here. Eat Drink RI has reached out to all the semifinalists and

will be publishing their comments here as the day progresses.

FEBRUARY RESIDENT NIGHT

Thank you for all that attended the February Resident

Night, February 23, featuring Community Music-

Works.

Guests listened to a chamber music performance

while enjoying wine and hor d’ouvers.

Community MusicWorks provides free after-school

education and performance programs through the

permanent residency of the Providence String

Quartet. Community MusicWorks works to build meaningful long-term relationships

between professional musicians, children, and families in urban neighborhoods of

Providence, Rhode Island.

KENNEDY PLAZA CHANGES

A tour of Kennedy Plaza and its planned

improvements was spearheaded last month by

two of our very own Residents, Carla R. and

Ann B.

Last July, the City, the Greater Kennedy Plaza

Coalition, and FirstWorks received a $200,000

grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

to improve the Kennedy Plaza space.
