Aloha!
For the Leeward Coast, one of my continuing priorities is to repair our roadways and support initiatives that will ease the burden of traffic during peak commute times. I recently introduced
Resolution 15-11 requesting the City Administration set forth specific requirements for dedi-
cations of roadway improvements. As we have all experienced, roadway repairs and improve-ments can take years to complete; I want to establish a more expeditious process so we can
readily benefit from these improvements.
This Resolution will help
City departments, includ-ing the Department of
Transportation Services, Department of Facility
Maintenance, Department of Planning and Permit-
ting, Department of De-
sign and Construction, and the Department of the
Corporation Counsel cre-ate a coordinated, effi-
cient process for the
development of our roadways. My goal is for
our city departments to have specific requirements and be actively involved from the start of planning to increase efficiency and minimize delays in completing roadway improvements.
I also urge you to support Senator Shimabukuro’s SB-769 which proposes to direct State De-
partment of Transportation to conduct a feasibility study for a fifth ‘contraflow’ lane of travel in
Nanakuli. I believe the establishment of a fifth lane to be used for contraflow during rush hour would alleviate traffic congestion and significantly improve the quality of life for our
community.
Mahalo,
Affordable Housing Update Incentivizing the development of affordable housing through city investment and financial support of viable micro-units, accessory dwelling units and reserve housing projects, is a key priority and is why I introduced Bills 79 and 80 (relating to an affordable housing fund and rental housing trust fund). I will be meeting with the Mayor to strategize on locations for affordable projects along the Leeward Coast. Please contact my office with your ideas for affordable pro-jects in our district.

provide funding for the Farrington Highway Realignment Study in this upcoming fiscal year’s budget. This project will lay the foundation for a future planned re-routing of Farrington Highway around Makaha Beach Park. I will be working alongside our state reps to the policy committee, to ensure its delivery.
