There is that old saying “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.” The way Lent and Easter
bookend the month of March this year shows this old adage is certainly true.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all
your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. 8 Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your
adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for
you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. 10 And
after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in
Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the power forever and ever.
Amen. (1Peter 5:6-11)
St. Peter reminds us in this passage that the devil is like a lion lying in wait for an opportune time to
draw us away from God. Lent is a time to reflect on the year that has passed since last Easter and for us to eval-
uate our relationship with Christ. How have we done? Have we ministered to all people God placed in our path
or have we ministered only to those we felt were worthy of our time? For what do we need to be forgiven?
What do we need to ask Christ to give us strength of mind and character so we can strive to live a life worthy of
the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross?
For what will we give thanks to God in Lent? Maybe for the strength to remain faithful at times when
we thought we would crumble under the temptation to forsake our faith in order to “fit in” to the world around
us? Lent is not a time for just remembering our faults and repenting but for seeing that there were times when
our faith gave us strength because we did trust in the cross of Christ and for that we must truly give thanks and
praise. This will reinforce for us that the Holy Spirit received in baptism is with us always and supporting and
guiding us is all situations.
Then there are the words of John the Baptist in the gospel of St. John: 29 The next day he [John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, "Here is the Lamb of
God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)
And this is the joy that this year ends the month of March. Easter-the Resurrection of our Lord
Jesus the Christ who died so we would be forgiven, have our sins overlooked and for us the reason to respond to
God with praise and thanksgiving for a death that was a wondrous gift of grace. The punishment for our sins we
should receive Jesus took on the cross for us. On Good Friday we are reminded of this and on Easter we rejoice
in the power of the resurrection and live in trust and hope of our own resurrection at the end of time.
In the Lord’s Supper, the Holy Eucharist (which means thanksgiving) and our participation in it
brings the joy of joining ourselves with the body and blood of Christ which was broken and shed for our salva-
tion. It is a joyous meal where Jesus comes to us again and again to join with us through the bread and the wine
in love, forgiveness and grace.
So this March comes in like lion but goes out like a lamb. For the Lamb of God who has taken
away the sins of the world has claimed victory over the lion that would devour our faith and cause us to sin.
May the repentant joy of Lent lead your heart and mind to the glorious victory of Easter obtained for us through
the cross of Christ and his empty tomb.

This much anticipated annual community outreach events brings the church together in fellowship,
along with the community. Come, join us the a Great Meal — fresh perch & trout, fried potatoes,
green beans, applesauce, stewed tomatoes, cornbread and dessert.

This is a very popular event and remember there is always a need for diners!

Stewardship Our newsletter and weekly announcements share many of the gifts of time, talent, and re-sources offered by our congregation including the lovely works of the sit-n-stich group, food donated to local food banks, and support for the Talbot Interfaith Shelter, support for Empty Bowls, and many more. So much good work is done in God’s name by our congregation! One important aspect of our stewardship efforts that we do not regularly share is a summary of our weekly offerings. Your council believes that it is important for you to know the amount of offerings provided in support of the sustainability and growth of our church. The budget, unanimously approved by the congregation in January, requires annual offering totaling $189,400. To meet this need our monthly offerings must average $15,783, or $3,642 per week. Our pattern of giving demonstrates fluctuations throughout the year with approxi-mately 27% of total offerings given in November and December. As such the anticipated (budget) income shown below is projected from historical giving pattern. Each month we will share with you our progress toward our annual budget. friends of Boyd Saulsbury. Boyd lived in Jar-
rettsville MD, where he owned a Christmas Tree
Farm. He is survived by his wife, Dana,
and Children, Tommy, Brandon and Ellie.
Boyd attended St. Paul’s as a young boy with his
mother, Eleanor Lindemann Saulsbury St. Claire
They were members of St. Paul’s.
Until they moved to Jarrettsville MD.

HOW DID JESUS WORSHIP?
I have tried to explain Jewish worship at Bible Study and Con-
firmation but some things are better learned through experi-
ence. I have spoken to Rabbi Peter and we have arranged op-
portunities for those who wish to experience a Jewish service.
The temple is located at 101 W. Earle Street in Easton (right
behind the hospital.) The following times are arranged and
they will be looking for those who wish to attend:
Saturday, March 5th at 10AM
Friday, March 11th at 6:30PM-on this day they young people will be actively participating
in the service.
Saturday, March 19 at 10AM
Friday, March 25 at 7:30PM.
This could be an exciting educational experience for us all.
ALSO AT THE TEMPLE IN MARCH:
Thursday, March 17th- from noon until 1PM-an ecumenical St. Patrick's Day service. I find
it intriguing that a synagogue is hosting a Christian Saint celebration-don't you? Come
and See!!
March 24/25 There will be the Purim Festival. Those familiar with the Book of Esther will
enjoy the celebration of this remembrance of the saving of the people of Israel from total
destruction. Their children will once again be participating. Take time and read the Book
of Esther and think about attending this joyous festival. Times will be published as the
day gets closer.
ROGATION DAYS
Many have heard of Rogation Days. "Rogation: comes from the Latin meaning "asking". It is
a time for praying for agriculture. If you wish to have your fields and gardens blessed
this season the dates will be Sunday, April 24th, Tuesday, April 26th and Wednesday April
27th. Contact Pastor Flavia and book a time slot now. You will be required for the
blessing to have a representative 1) seed(s) for your crops, 2) water from your land and 3)
soil. I have also heard some people like to have the farm equipment blessed at the same
time so you can have a representative piece of farm equipment present at the blessing. You
can allow about 20 minutes for the blessing. "May our barns be filled, with produce of
every kind; may our sheep increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our
fields" (Psalm 144:13)

SIT-n-STITCH GROUP After Focusing on making scarves this fall to donate to the Coat Collection, we will
now go back to making shawls and hap robes, also baby items.

The second Thursday of the month, we gather for refreshments, conversation and,
of course, needle work!

The Pill Container Program Social Ministry has another mission for our church for 2016!
We are asking you to donate your empty prescription bottles when you are finished with them,
remove the labels and they will be sent to this Malawi mission so the people would have safe bot-
tles in which to store their medication so that it will not fall into the hands of their children by
mistake. We need to remember in places like this there is no local drug store dispensing medica-
tion in prescription bottles as we are used to so this can help these folks
keep their medication safe. This would be something on going through-
out the year as we finish medication, and as always we thank you in ad-
vance for your support. The collection container will be in the back of
the church for your convenience. The only cost will be mailing the bot-

Easter possibilities
The message of Easter is not only that Christ is risen, not only that suffering is not the last word, not only that God gives new life, but this: Nothing is impossible with God. —The Rev. James Martin, S.J.
For March and April First Sunday Collection we will be collecting the following. There are many
children who go hungry everyday. Our local schools have a program called “the backpack program”
which is a way for schools to send food home to families in need. Many items are supplied through our
Maryland food bank but there are other items that our children still need. Please consider bringing
shampoo, deodorant, soap, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, any kid friendly food, etc.
and placing in the food basket. The food will be distributed to children and families in our local areas.

The Delmarva Cluster of Women of the E.L.C.A. . Will have a Spring Gathering on Saturday, March 12 at 10am. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Dover DE. The ladies of St. Andrew will be serving lunch for us and DE-MD Synodical Women’s Organization President, Lynette Todd, will be present to bring greeting from her Board and information about our Women of the E.L.C.A. Our theme will be “Supporting Our Callings” and we will share with each other what gifts we have and how we share them with our congregations and our communities. This should be a wonderful event and an opportunity to meet other Lutheran women who live in our cluster and synod. If you would be interested in attending this gathering let Diane Miller know at 410-482-7998. She is our current representative and will be doing the presentation for St. Paul’s, Cordova.
