Family Life Center saved my life…...

I was staffing the table at the Flagler Home Show when this

spunky young woman with raven black hair stepped up and told me “Family Life Center saved my life...it’s a magical place.” I asked her what made her say that—she said: “Family Life Cen-ter literally saved my life and reconnected me to my family. My life has turned around 100% since that dark place last year”. Tonya had been living in an unsafe situation and was sexually as-saulted. When law en-forcement brought her to Family Life Center for a forensic exam, she was traumatized and this, coupled with some mental health issues, made for a difficult initial interview. She “talked in circles”

and was struggling to be heard. Not only did our trained and pa-tient advocate hear Tonya, she believed her and Tonya felt that. This was an essential first step in her healing process. Tonya moved into the Family Life Center emergency shel-

ter. She received crisis counseling and comprehensive re-ferrals for her per-sonal needs. She was able to reunite with her family and is now in a safe, self-sufficient housing. Her story

is another success story of Family Life Center. But I think the real magic of her story is that Family Life Center started by believ-ing. By Sandy Hollett

Thank You Christmas Donors!

Words cannot adequately express our gratitude for all of our special Christmas donors—whether it was a new robe for a mom who left home with nothing, or a new bike for a special child, or those home baked goodies. You made their Christmas a won-derful one! Your generosity and caring meant that 63 children and 49 wom-en received gifts for Christmas. These gifts certainly brightened their holidays during a difficult time. Thank you to each individual donor, group, church, organiza-tion, and business that donated food, household items, toys, and holiday gifts.

1) Emergency shelter to 130 women and 119 children for a total of 9,887 bed

nights last year.

2) Provided support to an additional 157 victims (adults and children)

through our outreach program.

3) Provided sexual assault services to 4 child victims and 54 adult victims.

All of these services are provided at no-cost to the individual or child who

needs help.
