Bea and I would like to thank everyone that participated On February 24th. As we once againreturned to Brownsville TX for the annual Charro Days Parade as guest of Al Amin ShrineCenter, from Corpus Christi.
We had a total of 34 people attend, 4 Units attended, Motor Corps, Hot Rods, Legion Of Honorand the Oriental Band with 2 Floats which our Ladies and Nobles rode in and a van, and severalRed Racers and Hot Rods.
The weather was perfect for a parade and the Spectators were amazing. They were 12 rows deepfor 4 miles, Cheering and Applauding as we went by. What an incredible experience for all ofArabia Nobles and Ladies and the fellowship was great.
Next Year we plan on more Units and Shrine Clubs participating, everyone is invited.
We stayed at Isla Grand Beach Resort in South Padre Island, the Resort staff was very helpfuland accommodating. For those of you that weren’t able to make the trip you missed greatfellowship and a great meal.
Upon arriving on Friday evening we were able to make reservations at Dirty Al’s Seafoodrestaurant for dinner. The food was great. And on Saturday we also met for dinner at a specialplace.

Reflections from the High Priest and ProphetBy Noble Rick Pena
Dear Nobles and Ladies,
February was a busy month in and around the temple, clubs and units, but that’s a good thing it keeps us allbusy and active while supporting our Hospitals and Children.
As your High Priest and Prophet for 2018 one of my main task will be Hospital Benefits. Saying that I willneed Your Support and Your Volunteerism to keep Arabia #1.
The Kid Rock Concert on February 3rd was well attended by Arabia and for that I want to Thank those 65volunteers who came out and helped sell CD’s. In 2 ½ Hours we sold 1627 CD’s of which half of the profitof the CD’s that were sold go straight to our Hospitals. Below are pictures of some of the volunteers andmembers of the Divan present with the winner of the signed Kid Rock Guitar. We will have another concertwhere we will be selling CD’s at for Foreigner on Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. You’ll hear more about this as we get closer to that date and I’ll be asking for your help there too.Reminder we have the Willis Chili Cook-Off on March 16th and 17th 2018.
Thank You so much for allowing me to serve as your High Priest and Prophet this year. I’m only a phone callaway, so call me at 713.545.9204 with any questions that I may be able to help you with. If I don’t answerplease leave me a message with your name and a call back number, and I will call you back as soon as I can.

Welcome to 2018! Lady Ruth Ann and I are looking forward to a GREAT year as we work together servingArabia! I am excited for the privilege of being your Oriental Guide this year. Thank you to everyone whohelped with the election night party, we couldn’t have done it without you! And to Imperial Sir Jerry Gantt,Illustrious Sir Marc Miller, Legion of Honor, and Director Staff Thank you for an unforgettable InstallationNight for 2018! It was a great night for Arabia and an outstanding beginning for our year.
We all know that my job for the year is Membership. Membership is what keeps our beloved Shrine going. Our Illustrious Potentate, David Janda has put together the Membership team for 2018 and I know they willto do a great job in recruiting new members. Henry Gonzales is our membership chairman again this yearand I know we will continue to grow with his leadership and with the help of his staff. I am looking forwardto working with this great group of men that work tirelessly to further our cause – Shriner’s Hospital forChildren and taking care of our children.
Please remember that every single one of us are part of the membership team and we need everyone’s helpthis year. We have some very high goals that were set by our Imperial Sir, Gary Bergenske at the ImperialSession last summer.
Each Shrine Center was tasked to recruit the same number of members as their highest year in the last 5years from Imperial Session to Imperial Session. In addition to that, we all know that maintaining our GOLDstatus is a goal that Arabia is proud of achieving. So, like I said we have some very high goals for the year. But I know if we all work together, we can achieve those goals!
Since we are all part of our Membership team, I’d like to ask if you know any good men that would make agood Mason or Shriner, please go to www.beashrinernow.com and refer any men that you feel would makegreat Shriner’s. Please take a moment and visit your blue lodges and help some of these brother Mason’sbecome Shriners and in turn part of the greatest philanthropy in the world.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with questions or if I can help in any way. My phone number is 832-816-5681 and my email is [email protected]. If I can’t answer immediately, I will get back to you assoon as possible, please leave me a message. Thanks again for all of your support. Let’s make 2018 a GREAT year!I AM RU Committed to Membership!?
Sincerely,
Ralph “Corky” Bynum, Jr. , Oriental Guide
The Colonel’s CornerBy Marty Rodriguez
To our Nobility,
Great job during the Circus turn in on 13 February! Together, our amazing units turned in over $12,000 to ourhardworking circus chairman Noble John Arnold! There are two more circus turn ins- 1 in March and the lastcircus one in April (the April turn in is always Ladies Night so let's get our better halves out there and havesome fun!). The big circus will be shortly after that meeting. Remember we have our big circus in April ofevery year so let's have some fun and represent Shriners in the Houston area.
Our remarkable units are:
· involved in parades all over Houston and the surrounding communities. Yourcars/floats/trains/trailers/clowns/et al have entertained families for decades and we will continue that proudtradition.
· Our legendary units perform at TSA to highlight their skills and devotion to their hobby and profession.
· We raise money during IHOP fundraisers (27 February). Find your nearest Houston IHOP and get busy.
· We promote the circus during the month of April
· We attend meetings and other events supporting our Shrine
Grow your units! Get your units involved! Our goal this year is to make our 17 units better than how we foundit. That's the goal of the Colonel before me and that will be the goal of the Colonel after me. Let's growtogether, have fun together, and let's keep Arabia the best Shrine center in Texas.
The word from the Potentate: send in your monthly newsletter page. Tell us what your unit has done and whatyou're going to do. Promote your units! Congratulate your units!
We all are here for one purpose- to serve the heart and soul of our Shrine temple- our children. Our 17performing units lead the way in excellence and dedication.
It's great to be a part of the world's greatest philanthropy!
Respectfully Submitted,
Marty Rodriguez, Colonel

Greetings from Blood CentralWe have been working with MD Anderson since July 2016. We have one lodge that has a blood drive six times ayear and we have collected over 250 units. Over 750 people have been impacted by these blood drives. The Bloodgoes directly to MD Anderson and the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Galveston receives a credit for every unit. The 250 people that donated blood will literally touch thousands of people.
We have a Blood Drive every two months at the Wal Mart at Hwy 146 and I10 East. The next two are planned forMarch 3 and May 5. If you would like to give blood to benefit the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston or ifyou just want to participate and see how a Blood Drive works drop by and see us.
We have another Blood Drive scheduled at Tucker Lodge in Galveston June 9. If you are in the area please drop byand show your support.
We had a Blood Drive hosted by the Conroe Lodge February 17 for the Gulf Coast Blood Center with 32 peopleparticipating and 29 units drawn.
Every Blood Drive is a positive event, the need for blood never is ever totally meet. If you are considering having aBlood Drive please let me help you. If you use MD Anderson our Shrine Hospital for Children in Galveston willbenefit but I also have connections with Methodist.
I apologize for having to cancel the Blood Drive at the Easter Egg Party but due to circumstances beyond my control Iwas not able to reschedule a Blood Center when the date of the party was changed.
I still need Blood Drives hosted anywhere in our area. If anyone has any group (unit, club, Lodge, Church, BoyScout troop) that would be willing to host a blood drive I would be readily available to help set one up.
News from the Baytown Shrine ClubSubmitted by Bobby Wilson
As predicted over ten members of the Baytown Shrine Club participated selling CDs at the Kid Rock concert, and wekicked butt and once again yours truly sold the most CDs with our President Robert Rountree coming in a very closesecond bringing the top two selling from the BSC.
By the time you read this you will just be recovering from eating the delicious fried corn we cooked for the WillisChili Cook-off.
Next we have the 2nd Annual Duck Hunt Challenge.
The attendance was really good at the 1st event but we expect even more shooters this year. Everyone thatparticipated had a blast and promised to return.Mark your calendars for May 12, come out to participate or just come out and help make the event successful. We also have two really good raffles associated with the challenge that everyone will want to get onto.
· 15 guns
· Polaris 570 Ranger Crew
We only printed 1000 tickets so the odds are really good for such fantastic items. If you want a ticket, notify anymember of the Baytown Shrine Club and we will get them to you.
We will also have a big ticket sales event at the Royal Raceway Park; we will have a booth at the NHRA Lucas OilDrag Racing Series March 23 thru 25. If you would like to participate or show off your fine parade ride, let me know.Gotta go, have tickets to sell.

Update from YOUR Shriners Hospital for Children - Houston
First let’s take a minute to extend congratulations to Ruben Robles upon his selection as an Associate Memberof the Board of Governors. In addition to his normal responsibilities as a member of the Divan, Ruben hasstepped up and taken on even more responsivity as a Board Member in the efficient management andoperation of our Houston Hospital.
Second…….
SHC-Houston just completed a major fund-raising program which allows us to procure an EOS machine –basically a 360-degree x-ray of a standing, or sitting patient. The EOS platform supports improved patientsafety through exams that offer 2 to 45 times times less radiation compared to conventional radiographs.EOS also contributes to improved diagnostics and treatment planning for radiologists and surgeons, withhigh image quality and 3D capabilities for more precision.
With the 3D surgical planning solutions that are automatically accessible from the EOS exam, your hospitalcan also offer patient-specific, surgical planning solutions that take into account important 3D parametersthat increase patient and surgeon confidence before entering the OR.
With the installment of the EOS machine in the Spring of 2018 SHC-Houston is making another leap forwardin the care of our Children – thanks for Your help and support, and your donations.
Finally, if you are planning to make a donation to the Hospital we would ask that you direct that donation tothe Personal Services Fund, or PSF. This fund provides for transportation costs to bring children to and fromHouston for scheduled clinics and hospitalization. It also provides for lodging, meals, wheelchairs, and alaundry list of other patient related needs. This fund normally expends between ten and fifteen thousanddollars ($10,000 to $15,000) a month – and right now the PSF is pretty much empty. We are not asking for youto donate the whole amount – but every dime helps!
This PSF is not included in the normal budget as these costs are considered to be ancillary costs – whichbasically means that the PSF expenses are not budgeted for in our annual or supplemental budget. We arecontinuing to work with Imperial to attempt to change this – but right now we are forced to depend onindividual donations to meet this need. So If You Can Help – either send your check to the Houston Hospital orgive it to one of your Board Members – and remember to writ “PSF” on the Memo line!
Thanks very much for your time, and come see us whenever you are in vicinity of the Medical Center – wewould love to show you what we are doing in YOUR Hospital.
David Ashley – Chairman of the Board
Craig Cowgill Dale Dickman Claude EichenourDennie Jackson Bob Sharpe Ruben Robles (Associate Member)

Description of New Circus Advertising-- The Chair Ad --
By Don SlaytonWe will continue to sell our Chair Ads this year for the 2018 circus. If you sell your ads inSeptember of this year, you can offer your customers a full 12 months of advertisement, asthey will be removed in September of 2018. The cost to our circus buyers is only $250.00.
Note: the circus chair ad will stay on the chair back until September 1, 2018.Locations available so far this year are the following:
Papa Yolk’s Grill, 5824 Spencer HighBob’s Taco Station, 1902 Ave. H, RosenbergLercey’s West Café, 1203 N. FM 565 Rd., Mont BelvieuRooster’s Steak House, 6 W. Texas Ave., Baytown
As time permits, we will have additional locations to place the chair ads and we will adviseyou when this happens. On September 1, 2018, the old chair ads will be removed from chairbacks and replaced with new ads as you sell them for the 2019 circus. This will give yourbuyer a chance to advertise for a full year for only $250.00 per plaque.
Complete the Shrine Circus AD paperwork, furnish a business card for information to beused on the plaque and turn in with $250.00 for each plaque. Turn this into the circusoffice; or if you want to wait, you may turn in the ad at our regular circus turn-ins. Theinstallation and removal will be handled by our team. Remember: the earlier you turn inyour chair ad, the longer time your customer has to receive his/her advertisement time.Printing and installing the chair ad will take approximately 2 – 3 weeks. Be sure anddesignate your preference of café location.
Don Slayton, P.P. Circus Sales Chairman
P.S. Marc Miller P.P. and I made a run to Rosenberg this past week and removed the 2017plaques from Bob's Taco Station. We took the Plaques to local businesses who we had soldlast year. My fellow nobles, the Chair Ad Plaque Program works. It makes it a lot easierfor your next sale of 2018 plaques. Join us and the other salesmen who opened up thisprogram last year for the 2017 Circus. Let's support John Arnold and together make our2018 circus a successful event. SELL CIRCUS!!
