Children have a natural sense o curiosity aboutliving things in the world around them. Building on this curiosity, 4-H members and othercommunity youth can develop an understanding o

biology concepts through direct experience withliving things, their lie cycles and their habitats.

Tis program is developed to introduce scienceconcepts surrounding poultry production in

a hands on environment.Valley County 4-H members and other

interested youth are invited to registerto become a part o this program where the youth willorder baby chicks, take care o their nutritional andhealth needs, take responsibility or their eeding shifs,and market their end product either as ryers or pullets.Families are encouraged to participate with theirchildren. Te program will begin in early April and becompleted by September. Tere will be a small ee (approximately $30)assessed rom each project member to cover the cost othe chicks, supplies and eed. An additional goal o this curriculum is to helpstudents develop lie skills. Lie skills are abilities thathelp an individual live a productive and satisying lie.Within this curriculum our members and studentswill have the opportunity to develop lie skills relatedto science processes, teamwork, keeping records, andplanning and organizing. Most importantly, we want members and otherinterested youth who are not able to raise animals intown to experience eeding and caring or animals andcreating markets or their products. o register or this program or to have yourquestions answered, please call the Valley CountyExtension Office beore April 1, 2014 at 228-6241.

Te Highlanders wrappedup their regular season this pastweekend at the Williston Invitationalwith 14 youngsters traveling to oilcountry. Highlighted by Mo Fast andBlake Overvold championships, 8others came away with a top three

finish.Also, to the south, over 600 wrestlers converged onSpearfish, SD or the challenging Black Hills Nationalstournament. 16 Highlanders made the journey. Led by Champion Kohl Kittleson, Dylan Nieskens3rd, ony Kaiser 3rd and el Aune 3rd, 14 Highlandersended up placing in the top 8.
