SECOND READING / SEGUNDA LECTURA Proclaimed in English Hebreos 5: 1-10

Hermanos: Todo sumo sacerdote es un hombre escogido entre los hombres y está constituido para intervenir en favor de ellos ante Dios, para ofrecer dones y sacrifi-cios por los pecados. El puede comprender a los ignorantes y extraviados, ya que él mismo está envuelto en debilidades. Por eso, así como debe ofrecer sacrificios por los pecados del pueblo, debe ofrecerlos también por los suyos propios. Nadie puede apropiarse ese honor, sino sólo aquel que es llamado por Dios, como lo fue Aarón. De igual manera, Cristo no se confirió a sí mismo la dignidad de sumo sacerdote; se la otorgó quien le había dicho: Tú eres mi Hijo, yo te he engendrado hoy. O como dice otro pasaje de la Escritura: Tú eres sacerdote eterno, como Melquisedec. Precisamente por eso, durante su vida mortal, ofreció oraciones y súplicas, con fuertes voces y lágrimas, a aquel que podía librarlo de la muerte, y fue escuchado por su piedad. A pesar de que era el Hijo, aprendió a obedecer padeciendo, y llegado a su perfección, se convirtió en la causa de la salvación eterna para todos los que lo obedecen y fue proclamado por Dios sumo sacerdote, como Melquise-dec.

Si cumplen mis mandamientos, permanecen en mi amor; lo mismo que yo cumplo los mandamientos de mi Padre y permanezco en su amor. Les he dicho esto para que mi alegría esté en ustedes y su alegría sea plena. Este es mi mandamiento: que se amen los unos a los otros como yo los he amado. Nadie tiene amor más grande a sus amigos, que el que da la vida por ellos. Ustedes son mis amigos, si hacen lo que yo les mando. The elect for the Priesthood rise and stand before the Archbishop, who questions him. The elect goes to the Archbishop, and kneeling before him, places his joined hands between those of the Archbishop, to whom he promises obedience.

The elect rises and kneels before the Archbishop. The Archbishop lays his hands in silence upon the elect’s head. All Priests present, vested with stoles, lay hands in silence on the elect. With the elect kneeling before him, the Archbishop pronounces the prayer of Ordination to the Priesthood.

El elegido se pone de pie. Enseguida, el elegido se acerca al Arzobispo y se arrodilla ante él. El Arzobispo impone en silencio las manos sobre la cabeza del elegido. Todos los Sacerdotes presentes, revestidos de estola, imponen igualmente en silencio las manos sobre el elegido.
