Residency Showcase

In partnership with the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, the GME sponsor at Northwestern, will offer its 11th annual Residency Showcase on Saturday, 28 April 2018. The primary goal of this program is to diversify the applicant pools in our residency programs. Thus, we are particularly interested in attracting students with diverse backgrounds to attend. Our objective is to diversify in a very holistic sense including, but not limited to: gender, race, ethnicity, language skills, life experience, sexual orientation, religion. The patient population in our hospitals is extremely diverse and in order to continue to provide excellent care and training we recognize the need for a diverse cohort of trainees.

The McGaw Diversity Council is again offering a limited number of stipends up to $500 for prospective residents to attend the Showcase. These stipends are intended to defray travel expenses to and from Chicago for students McGaw has defined as underrepresented (see website for program-specific criteria). Please help us spread the word to your medical students who will be graduating in 2019. Applications for the stipends are to be submitted online and are due no later than April 2, 2018.

We have an exciting agenda planned this year. There will be a resident experiences panel discussion, a program directors panel discussion, a career development keynote address,

and a recruitment fair where representatives from our 24 residency training programs will be present. Please forward this information to your students. Registration is free and can be expedited online at https://forms.feinberg.northwestern.edu/view.php?id=432344. Additional information, regarding the Showcase, including stipend application materials, can be found on the McGaw website at: http://mcgaw.northwestern.edu/why-northwestern/Residency-Showcase.html

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. I appreciate your help in recruiting students for this annual event.
