On Good Friday, our parish will take up

the annual Good Friday Collection for the

Holy Land.

Each day, the

news reminds

us of the

violence and

instability

plaguing the Middle East, but we rarely hear

of the shrinking Christian community there,

a community that struggles to remain in the

land of Christ’s birth, death and resurrection.

Please help support our brothers and sisters

in the Holy Land by giving to the Good

Friday Collection. This Pontifical Collection

allows the Franciscans and others to

continue caring for Christianity’s holiest sites

and for God’s people in the Holy Land.

Please be generous.

About The Types of

Catholic Wedding Ceremonies

There are two forms of Catholic wedding

Liturgy:

The Wedding or Nuptial Mass:

Often referred to as a “full Mass,” it is the

celebration of the Mass with the wedding

ceremony inserted in the middle of the

Liturgy. It presupposes both parties are

practicing Catholics and receiving Holy

Communion after a proper spiritual

preparation.

The Wedding Ceremony:

This has all the elements of the above

(music, readings, vows, etc.) but without the

celebration of Mass. This form is suitable

for general congregations and is of shorter

duration than the above.

PLEASE NOTE:

Nuptial Masses are NOT celebrated on

Sundays. The ONLY exception is when a

visiting priest is invited by the family,

approved by the Pastor and is willing to

offer a Nuptial Mass on Sunday.

A dramatic devotion drawing on the traditional pilgrimage Via Crucis

in Jerusalem which has been especially associated with the

Season of Lent and Passiontide for centuries.

Using scenes from Sacred Scripture and traditional lore

It presents fourteen “Stations” (literally “standing places”) that mark the path of

Christ from His judgment at Pontius Pilate’s court to His burial in the Holy Sepulchre.

What is spiritual communion, and do you need to be in a state of grace to receive it?

The practice of making a “spiritual communion” dates back several centuries and

St. Thomas Aquinas described it as “an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Holy Sacra-

ment and a loving embrace as though we had already received Him.” Traditionally, a

prayer of spiritual communion has been used by those who are unable to receive

sacramental communion because of health, inability to attend Mass, or who cannot receive

communion because of grave sin. This practice has been encouraged by many saints and

spiritual writers and most recently Pope Francis encouraged the practice when the realities

of the COVID-19 pandemic prevented so many

Catholics from taking part in the Mass or receiving sacramental communion.

Although the graces offered in spiritual communion are not the same as those of-

fered in the sacramental communion of the Mass, this practice is still a powerful opportunity

to express our desire for union with the Lord and to be united with Christ and the Church,

even in an imperfect way.

DAILY OFFERING PRAYER -

God, our Father, I offer You my day. I offer You my prayers, thoughts, words, actions, joys, and sufferings in

union with Your Son Jesus' Heart, Who continues to offer Himself in the Eucharist for the salvation of the

world. May the Holy Spirit, who guided Jesus, be my guide and my strength today so that I may witness to Your

love.

MARCH: Intention for evangelization - Sacrament of reconciliation

Let us pray that we may experience the sacrament of reconciliation with renewed depth, to taste the infinite mercy of

God.

The Apostleship of Prayer is a worldwide association of Catholics and

other Christians who strive to make their ordinary, everyday lives apostolic-

ally effective. Through the Apostleship of Prayer, the Pope gives his monthly

prayer intentions to the entire Church. For this reason, the Apostleship came

to be known as "the Pope's own prayer group."

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God,

The Father almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin

Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under

Pontius Pilate,

He suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord, the Giver of life,

who proceeds from the father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and

glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic

Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come.

Amen!

Prayer to Saint Joseph

To you, O blessed Joseph,

do we come in our tribulation,

and having implored the help of your most holy

Spouse,

we confidently invoke your patronage also.

Through that charity which bound you

to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God

and through the paternal love

with which you embraced the Child Jesus,

we humbly beg you graciously to regard the

Inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by

his Blood,

and with your power and strength to aid us in our

necessities.

O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family,

defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ;

O most loving father, ward off from us

every contagion of error and corrupting influence;

O our most mighty protector, be kind to us

and from heaven assist us in our struggle

with the power of darkness.

As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly

peril,

so now protect God's Holy Church

from the snares of the enemy and from all adver-

sity;

shield, too, each one of us by your constant

protection, so that,

supported by your example and your aid,

we may be able to live piously, to die in holiness,

and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven.

Amen.

I think that most of us, when hearing a prayer at a sporting event or celebration

of some kind, find it mostly generic with bless this, bless that, keep them safe,

etc, etc. The following prayer was given in Kansas at the opening session of

their Senate. It seems prayer of any kind still upsets some people. When

Pastor Joe Wright was asked to open the new session, everyone was

expecting the usual, but here is what they heard:

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and

seek your direction and guidance. We know Your word says: “Woe to those who call evil

good.“ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and

reversed our values. We have ridiculed the truth of Your word and called it Pluralism. We

have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism. We have endorsed perversion

and called it alternative lifestyle. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. * We

have rewarded laziness and called it welfare . * We have killed our unborn and called it

choice . We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline

our children and called it “self esteem.” We have abused power and called it Politics. We

have embezzled public funds and called it essential expenses. We have institutionalized

bribery and called it “sweets of office.” We have coveted our neighbors possessions and

called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it

freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time honored values of our forefathers and

called it enlightenment . Search us, oh God, and know our hearts today, cleanse us from

every sin and set us free. Amen!

The response was immediate. A number of LEGISLATORS walked out in protest! In six short

weeks, Rev. Wright received more than 5,000 calls with only 47 of them being negative. The

church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from as far away as India,

Africa and Korea. May this prayer sweep over our Nation and become our desire to again be

called ONE NATION UNDER GOD. (I guess there’s hope for us yet.)

CAN YOU RELATE?

I remember the Corned beef of my childhood, and the bread that we cut with a knife. When the

children helped with the housework and the men went to work, not the wife. The cheese never

needed a fridge, and the bread was so crusty and hot. The children were seldom unhappy, and

the wife was content with her lot. Well maybe, maybe not. I remember the milk from the bottle,

with the yummy cream on the top. Our dinner came hot from the oven, and not from a freezer, or

shop. The kids were a lot more contented. They didn’t need money for kicks, just a game with

their friends in the “gutters” and sometimes the Saturday “flicks.” I remember the shop on the cor-

ner, where biscuits for pennies were sold. Do you think I’m a bit too nostalgic. or is it.....I’m just

getting old? Bathing was done in a wash tub, with plenty of rich foamy suds, but the ironing

seemed never ending, as mom pressed everyone’s “duds.” I remember the slap on my backside,

and the taste of the soap if I swore. Anorexia and diets weren’t heard of, and almost no choice

what we wore. Do you think that bruised our ego, or our initiative was destroyed? We ate what

was put on the table, and I think life was better enjoyed.

If you remember those days, be content and enjoy your Golden Years. Not everyone is given that

gift.

Hope everyone is doing well. Remember that each day brings us closer to life as we wish it to be.

Pray for everyone, especially our Church and our Country.

See you in church

Living the Gospel

Through our Support of the CMA

During this final week of Lent – the Great Week, may we continue to grow in a spirit of holiness

and mission so that we can truly be missionary disciples of our Lord. Through prayer, almsgiving

and service, we show our gratitude of God’s love for us. The Catholic Ministries Appeal gives us

an opportunity to be stewards of God’s gifts in many different ways.

Gift of Financial Resources: More than 600,000 of our sisters and brothers receive support and

assistance from the funds shared through the CMA each year. These programs include pastoral

care to those in need through Catholic Charities food and nutrition programs, affordable housing

for senior citizens; people with disabilities and our veterans; respect life initiatives; and formation of

our priests, deacons, lay leaders, and young people.

Gifts of Time and Talent: The CMA offers opportunities to share our time and talent. Our par-

ishes CMA committees support a smooth and organized Appeal effort. Others share their gifts by

volunteering in the ministries that the CMA supports. One of the great benefits of the Appeal is

communication. People are informed of the many good works, programs and opportunities in this

diocese. The CMA tells of the good works of the Church and communicates the opportunities to

share our God-given gifts.

Gift of Prayer: The Catholic Ministries Appeal helps us to be socially responsible as we support

those in need. May we keep those who support us and those who are served by us in our daily

prayers, especially during Holy Week and Eastertide.

Sidewalk Contemplatives at Calvary

Every abortion clinic is a modern day Calvary. On Good Friday on a hill just outside Je-

rusalem the Most Precious Blood of the innocent Son of God was shed for our salvation. And

every day in abortion clinics throughout the world the blood of innocent children is being shed.

When we go to pray at these places, we are in some way entering into the mystery of the Passion

of our Lord as He continues to suffer in the children who are rejected and murdered. We remem-

ber His words: “whatever you do to the least, you do to me.”

The challenge we face, therefore, is not to be protesters but to be Sidewalk Contemplatives

at Calvary. The challenge is to remove from our presence, while we are outside of the abortion

centers, anything that would prevent those going to or working in the abortion ‘clinics’ from experi-

encing in us the unconditional merciful love of God for them.

We are commissioned by God, to be faithful ambassadors of the merciful, unconditional,

everlasting love of Christ for all those coming to the Modern-Day Calvary, which tragically is not far

today from where any one of us lives.

Even more important than being at the abortion clinic, however, is the challenge of being

there in the right way. The persons whose examples teach us best, how to be at our own modern-

day Golgotha, remain of course, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, John, the beloved disciple, and the

holy women who were at the foot of the Cross and, above all, Jesus who hung on the Cross.

They teach us that conversion is the fruit of sacrifice and prayer. They show us the power

of solidarity and compassion. They did not cry out in anger at those who crucified Jesus. Rather,

like Him, they offered forgiveness to their enemies and manifested confidence in God’s Provi-

dence even in that dark hour. So too for us who pray at Calvary—we must remove, as best we

can, feelings of anger and condemnation and instead try to reflect to all the love of Christ.

Focus on Religious Freedom

www.cffor.org

Many Churches Ease Restrictions for Holy Week & Easter 2021

Easter, 2020, found most churches in America unconstitutionally closed or restricted for in-person

worship. Limiting, or outright prohibiting, in-person religious services was one of the most contro-

versial directives that states made in 2020 in an attempt to slow the coronavirus pandemic. Ten

states prohibited church gatherings altogether. Most states implemented guidelines with various

levels of restrictions, and 15 states allowed religious gatherings to continue without any limits.

Churchgoers in several of these states fought against orders banning religious services and, in

each case, achieved some level of success modifying the restrictions. CA Pastor Tim Thompson

said, "The whole idea of separation of church and state is that the state can't run the church. The

state can't tell the church what to do."

(1)

"In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of

defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility -

I welcome it." President John F. Kennedy

As we begin Holy Week, 2021, and after many prayerful protests and court cases, the most

onerous restrictions have been eased but not altogether rescinded. Each state has developed its

own form of control. In Maine, Bishop Robert Deeley is not satisfied with the recently expanded

gathering limits to 50 people. He said, "I think that not giving more latitude to people to be able to

exercise their Constitutional right to worship is harming them."

(2)

The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down restrictions on some religious gatherings in New York

and in California, the Court recently granted an appeal from a church that challenged the states

restrictions on church services, singing and chanting.

Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in the most recent case: "Government actors have been

moving the goalposts on pandemic-related sacrifices for months, adopting new bench-

marks that always seem to put restoration of liberty just around the corner."

Happening Now: Third-grader Forced to Remove "Jesus Loves Me" Mask

"Public schools have a duty to respect the free expression of students that the First Amendment

guarantees to them," said Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) attorney in a lawsuit defending a

Mississippi 9-year-old ordered to remove her mask.

(4)

"Other students within the school district

have freely worn masks with logos of local sports teams or even the words 'Black Lives Mat-

ter.' This student deserves an equal opportunity to peacefully express her beliefs."

It’s officially tax season!

According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, “Filing taxes this year

can help you during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even if you don’t

typically file taxes, do so. This year it may be the only way to get back any

money that was withheld from their wages (a refund), plus cash in on key bene-

fits and stimulus payments (also known as Economic Impact Payments) not

claimed in 2020. And this year, if you qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Child Tax

Credit (CTC), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is allowing you to choose whether to use your 2019 or

2020 income to receive the most credits for which you are eligible.”
