WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 05/2015 4 March 2015

Kia ora

A huge congratulations to our swim team who are competing in the local Waihi Cluster competition

today. We look forward to hearing about your successes and competitive spirit. My thanks to Phil for

organizing this event and our team of teacher and whanau who were able to support this special day.

Yesterday I had my first meeting with the Student Council Chairperson (Arama) and Vice Chairperson

(Isobel). Our year six team have decided to fund raise for sports uniforms and first aid kits. Watch out as

the year progresses as to their new ideas and initiatives.

I love a community kai after prize giving. It is a lovely way to celebrate our successes as a team and

come together as a united group. In the past, our school pig bucket has fattened a pig. Last year our pig

bucket was not very successful. With the support of our year six students we aim to fill a bucket of scraps

each school day allowing for a pig to be fed, then eaten together at prize giving. Your help of reminding your

children about using the pig bucket for lunchbox scraps will be appreciated. Our thanks to the Tai whanau for

supplying the pig and meeting it’s requirements.

How is your giant pumpkin growing? Our competition is well and truly on but it seems they are tricky

things to grow. I can grow kamo kamo like crazy but no pumpkin has developed. Lets hope you are having more

success in the pumpkin growing department than I am!

Nits are doing the rounds at school. We now have new supplies of KidsCan lice treatment. Please let us

know if you would like nit treatment slipped into your child’s bag. Our Health Nurse Tracey Maloney will visit

classes later in the month to share combing strategies with students - one of the best ways to keep these

pests at bay.
