A Welcome from the President

Welcome back to another exciting year of Kootenay ICE Hockey. The start of every hockey season always brings optimism and hope and the 2014-2015 campaign will be no different. Despite the turnover and cyclical nature of Major Junior Hockey our organization expects to make the playoffs every year.

Thanks in part to the quality scouting and coaching we have made the playoffs all 16 years we have been in Cranbrook, while finishing with a .500 or better record for a WHL record 15 consecutive seasons (both are the longest active streaks in the WHL).

Our organization has been very fortunate since moving to Cranbrook to enjoy an unparalleled amount of on ice success. With the core group of our players in the 19 and 20-year-old age groups, we expect them along with our new prospects to once again battle for contention in the very competitive Eastern Conference.

Our fans have come to expect a team that is hard working on the ice and ambassadors for Cranbrook and the entire East Kootenay region off the ice.

TONIGHT’S OPPONENTLAST OUTING: The Red Deer Rebels arrive at Western Financial Place on the heels of a 6-2 victory in Swift Current March 4. The Rebels, buoyed by a four-point night from Brooks Maxwell, scored six unanswered goals including four power-play markers in the victory. Goalten-der Taz Burman made 34 saves for Red Deer, while 19 year-old forward Preston Kopeck scored twice, including the eventual game-winner at 11:22 of the second period.

LAST MEETING: Tonight marks the sixth of seven regular season meetings between the Rebels and Kootenay ICE, with Red Deer holding a 3-2-0-0 record in the five prior encounters. The two sides last met January 9 in Cranbrook, as two first-period goals held up for the Rebels in a 3-1 win. Defenseman Cale Fleury scored the lone ICE goal, his first in the WHL.
