With Los Cubanos Postizos, his latest band with who he produced two albums for Atlantic, he finally accessed the the front of the musical scene. Coproduction Ciné Développement and Mezzo.Claude Bessy is linked to the opera Opera Garnier as an institution. Martine Kahane, the director of the cultural Service of the National Opera of Paris, expresses it clearly when she writes: " Claude Bessy is a free woman and jealous of that freedom she defends, paying the price of her independence. The Garnier Palace is her house, but was never her prison ". Admitted in the dancing school of the Opera of Paris when she was 9, Claude Bessy joined the Baller corps four years later. She was promoted « First dancer » in 1952 and she took part in the creations of choreographies by Serge Lifar and John Cranko. Four years later, in 1956, she became an « Etoile » and started interpreting the major classic parts : Chemin de Lumière and Le Bel indifférent by Serge Lifar, Daphnis and Chloé by George Skibine… From the 1960’s, she started creating choreographies with Les Fourmis (1966), Concerto en ré (1977), Mouvements (1980). In 1973, she became Director of the School of dance of the Opera of Paris.Nicolas Ribowski, the director of this film, followed Mademoiselle Bessy everywhere she went, in the places she likes and where she spends her life… a life dedicated to dance. She is surrounded by some of the major dancers of our time: Maurice Béjart, Marie-Claude Pietragalla, Laetitia Pujol, Eleonora Abbagnato, Manuel Legris, Laurent Hilaire, Kader Belarbi and Karl Paquette. 21.40Maestro Claire GibaultDocumentary (2001, 52’) by Isabelle Frelat-Audiger. 22.45Montpellier Festival 2002 : Alexandre Tharaud, a tribute to Rameau (new)Concert (2002, 60’), directed by : Gilles Le Mao, Guillaume Dero. The journalist can understand their vision of the orchestra, their instrument, their head, their relationship with the community and the hierarchy... With these moving or amusing verbal digressions, Federico Fellini filmed a portrait which is at the same time an apology and an allegory which can be interpreted in many different ways. When it came out, the film was considered as a political allegory, even though Fellini always insisted his vision of the world was apolitical. Prova d’orchestra also contains a reflexion of the director about mass communication, his ethical meditation about the position of individuals in society, a strong critic of human bonds.Prova d’orchestra was shot in sixteen days and the assembling was finished in two weeks. However the preparation of the film took a long time. The film director met all the major Italian soloists of the time. Through many interviews, he managed to understand that madness of the musician when he identifies with his instrument. About music, Federico Fellini declared : « My relation to music is a defensive raction. I must protect myself from her. I accept to listen to music when I am working on a film. My cooperation with Nino Rota was very intense, our complicity was total and I read his score note by note. But I am not somebody who goes to the Opera or to concerts ». 22.25The "Golberg" variations by J.S. Bach

Coproduction Opera Bastille, France musics, France 3, Mezzo.Born in a family of entrepreneurs in 1842, Jules Massenet joins the Paris music academy in 1851 to study piano. He wins the Rome prize in 1863, and lives in Italy, Germany and Austria. Back in Paris, he starts to become famous with compositions made on command. In 1877, he plays his first lyrical work : The king of Lahore. The following year he started teaching at the music academy and became one of the major leaders of the French lyrical scene. Reynaldo Hahn and Charles Koechlin were his pupills, but in 1896 he resigned to dedicate all his time to compositions. At that time, the major part of his work is behind him and when Don Quichotte is created at the opera of Monte-Carlo on February 24th 1910, the times of his first parisian successes are gone.Massenet’s Don Quichotte, remains a moving and picturesque work where Massenet describes the « belle époque and the decay of the time » with the rhythm of the epic… This production of the Paris opera brings together the talent of international soloists and of James Conlon, the resident orchestra conductor of the Paris Opera, and the sensitivity and imagination of the stage arranger Gilbert Deflo : Massenet’s fine writing finds a new dimension and the old ideal of chivalry is brought back to life. 22.50

19.30Five pieces for orchestra Arnold SchoenbergDocumentary and concert (1994, 53) written by Franck Scheffer and Pay-Uun Hiu, with Charles Rosen (piano) and the Dutch Radio Philharmonic orchestra conducted by Michael Gielen, directed by : Frank Scheffer. 20.30A l’affiche  20.45The Great adventure of the New Morning : 20 years of shared passion (new)Documentary (2003, 104’), directed by : Daniel Farhi. The adventure of the New Morning, the historical concert hall of French jazz, could be told as a Parisian tale taken from the Arabian Nights. The New Morning celebrates its 20 th

anniversary: twenty years of musical life, full with great memories, twenty years of risks, of threats and of success. Those musical passions were shared by the best public in the world and offered the best of jazz, the blues and the world music. Born in 1981 on a tune by Bob Dylan in a place in the rue des Petites écuries in Paris, the New Morning slowly grew and established itself as a musical monument. This miracle was made possible by a woman, a lady, not a Parisian professional, but an Egyptian woman from the upper middle class alexandrine. From her office in the Rue des Petites écuries, Mrs Eglal Farhi set up, with a team exclusively composed of women, five thousand concerts given by more than twenty thousand musicians for nearly a million and half aficionados in the best cheerful atmosphere which makes the charm of the American clubs. In addition to the extracts celebrating Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Art Blakey (and with new materials of the 1960’s with Richie Havens, Arlo Guthrie, Joe Cocker), this documentary is illustrated by the memories of the artists and of the public: many celebrities remember the New Morning was their first real musical test. With a many special guests and the special participation of Mrs. Eglal Farhi and Archie Shepp. (This documentary initially programmed in February, but for technical reasons, it is broadcasted now). 22.45Following Van GoghDocumentary (1999, 52’) by Dominik Rimbault. 23.45A l’affiche  0.00Prova d’orchestraFull length film (97’) by F. Coproduction Théâtre du Châtelet and Mezzo. The pianist Georges Pludermacher set up the program of this recital with studies for piano by Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) and Claude Debussy (1862-1918). The works by Chopin are taken from the opus 25 which is composed of 12 studies composed between 1832 and 1836. Georges Pludermacher interprets the Study in A flat major (op. 25, n° 1), and the Study in B minor (op. 25, n° 10), the Study in G sharp minor (op. 25, n° 6), the Study in C sharp minor (op. 25, n° 7), and the Study in D flat major (op. 25, n° 8) and the Study in A minor (op. 25, n° 4). These pieces are played alternatly with seven studies taken from the two Books published by Claude Debussy during the year 1916. These pieces are the Study n° 11 in A flat major « for the composed arpeggios », the Study n° 5 in E major « for the pour les octaves », the Study n° 2 in D flat major « for the thirds », the Study n° 10 in C sharp major « for the opposed sounds », the Study n° 4 in D flat major « for the sixths », the Study n° 12 n A minor « for the chords », the Study n° 3 in F major « for quads ».The twelve studies by Claude Debussy are the result of the last creative period of the composer of Th sea. During a stay in Normandy between June and October, Debussy composed them as a tribute to Frederic Chopin. Like Chopin, Debussy organised his twelve studies in two books; he wanted to compose pieces that were not only pedagogic tools, but real musical compositions. The recording of Debussy’s Studies by Georges Pludermacher under the label Lyrinx was praised by the international critic and received the Grand Prize of the record Academy.  21.45Sufi chanting from the SindConcert (1999, 99’), directed by : Marc Bissot. 23.25A l’affiche  23.35Classic Archive : Jascha Heifetz and Nathan MilsteinMusical archives (52’) assembled by B. Like poetry, it can express everything, a simple suggestion to the most violent cry, from the most spiritual thought to the most frivolous one". Hopkinson Smith is American, he lives in Basle where he teaches in the Schola Cantorum. He also travels and gives master classes through the whole world. Hopkinson Smith was born in New York in 1946 in a musical world influenced by country music. At the age of twelve, he is given his first guitar, and starts studying classical guitare playing. At University in Boston, he discovers Julian Bream’s recordings and starts studying lute. Continuing his studies in Bâle, he meets Jordi Savall in 1973, Jordi Savall ; their friendship and their complicity start a great adventure : they create together Hesperion XX with the feeling of “recreating something unique for the future generations ”.This documentary by Valérie Brotons and Denis Caïozzi shows a great musician, who masters his instrument and who is mastered by him, a subtle pedagogue, a poet, a simple man. 21.40Hopkinson Smith interprets J.-S. BachConcert (2000, 67’) recorded at the Musée des Tapisseries of Aix-en-Provence, directed by : Denis Caïozzi. Coproduction Pois Chiche Films, Autrement dit and Mezzo.Hopkinson Smith plays on a a luth of Joel van Lennep (Boston, 1980). He interprets transcriptions for luth of sonatas and partitats for violin by J-S Bach (1685-1750). On the program : the Sonata in C major (after BWV 1005), the Partita in B minor (after BWV 1002), the Partita in E major (after BWV 1006a) and the « Chaconne » of the Partita in D minor (after BWV 1004).The Partita in E major (BWV 1006a) is a transcription by Bach himself, of the Partita for violin solo (BWV 1006). The composer also made a transcription for lute of the Suite for cello solo (BWV 1011). The works for cello and violin by Bach are adapted to a transcription: the lute is an instrument that allows complex chords, is particularly able to render the extraordinary harmonic depth of those works. 22.45The history of music through the instruments : the viole de gambeDocumentary series (1999, 27’) présentée par Yehudi Menuhin, directed by : Jean-Marc

In the West-Coasters group, Chet Baker soon becomes the leader, the symbol of a youth with “nice faces and tired eyes” (the director, Bertrand Fèvre). Chet Baker, Bertrand Fèvre says, « was the expression, the symbol of the American youth taken between the happiness and existential fears, his nice face taking all the risks, women, drugs, speed, irresponsibility, whose talent brought him immediate success, and made him fall ».This film by Bertrand Fèvre is organised around an interview of William Claxton, completed with photographs, archive pictures and extracts taken from the film Chet’s Romance, the previous work by the director. 21.15On the road : Bob BergDocumentary (2000, 53’), directed by : Patrick Savey. 22.10The history of music through the instruments: the guitareDocumentary (1998, 31’) by Jean-Marc Turine and Gérard Rivoalan, with Pascal Bournet, presented by Yehudi Menuhin. 22.45Vasarely (new)Documentary (2003, 52’) by Thomas de Jensac. It was on the scene the Châtelet that, on May 18th, 1909, Serge Diaghilev and his troop, initiated, with the Polovtsian Dances, the most outstanding choreographic revolution of 20th century. The first three seasons (1909-1911) were dominated by the collaboration between the 20 year old dancer, Vaslav Nijinski (1889-1950), and a choreographer who was 10 years older than him, Michel Fokine (1880-1942). Michel Fokine entered the Imperial Dance School of Saint-Petersburg in 1889. He was curious and, from his childhood, he was interested in all forms of art; this interest will lead him, a few years later, to the Russian Ballet. For Diaghilev and Fokine, music is only one ingredient among so many others, in a ballet. They ask “avant-garde” creators for the costumes and the decorations and even for the curtains of scene. This modern spirit, Nijinski also symbolises it with his unconventional and incredible mobility. He came to Paris as a dancer, and soon worked on choreographic writing. This activity that was Fokine’s prerogative, will be cause of Fokine’s departure from Diaghilev’s troop in 1912. Focusing on the collaboration between Nijinski and Fokine, the program of this evening is composed of ballets created between 1909 and 1911 : Petrouchka, burlesque scenes in fours sets (1911), music by Igor Stravinsky, booklet by the composer and Alexandre Benois, choreography by Michel Fokine, used by Leonid Leontiev for the production at the Mariinski in 1920, settings and costumes inspired by Alexandre Benois’ work ; Sheherazade, choreographic drama in one act (1910), music by Nikolaï Rimsky-Korsakov, booklet by Léon Bakst and Michel Fokine, settings and costumes by Léon Bakst ; Polovtsian Dances, taken from the opera Prince Igor (1909), music by Alexander Borodine, settings and costumes by Nicolas Roerich ; Le Spectre de la rose, choreographic painting (1911), music by Carl Maria von Weber, settings and costumes after the original costumes by Léon Bakst ; The bird of fire, ballet in one act and two sets (1910), music by Igor Stravinsky, settings and costumes inspired by Léon Bakst’s original work, by Alexander Golovin and Michel Fokine. For this exceptional evening, the Mariinski Theatre of Saint-Petersburg, the home of the historical Russian ballets, sent its most brilliant ambassadors : the Ballet corps and the Orchestra and the Choir conducted by Valery Gergiev. 22.15

He composed four of them; interpreted here by Krytian Zimerman. They are rich and original, with rather long part, with no precise structure. The Ballad n° 1 in minor ground, started in 1831, was completed in 1835 in Paris; the Ballad n° 2 in F major was finally completed in its last version, in 1839 (Chopin was in Majorca), it was dedicated to Robert Schumann who admired Chopin’s music, a polished dedication because the opposite was no true… the Ballad n° 3 in A flat major, written between 1840 and 1841, was created by the author, and like the two first, it may have been inspired by texts of the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz (1798-1855); the Ballad n° 4 in F minor, created in 1842, inspired these comments to Alfred Cortot : it raised a " new orientation of Chopin’s style [... ] he was a precursory character of our musical impressionism, as if he he had written the masterpieces to come ". The Polish pianist Krystian Zimerman is one of the major specialists of romantic pianists, and more particularly of Chopin’s work. In 1975, he won first prize in the Warsaw Chopin contest, and, at the beginning of the 80’s, he played on all the major concert halls worldwide. 21.25The Grand Tango by A. Pluto is the lover of Eurydice therefore she will leave terrestrial life and leaves a farewell message to Orpheus telling she died, which satisfies Orpheus. But this attitude of the husband is not appropriate for the public opinion which prepares a scandal if he does not follow her in Hell. During that time, on Mount Olympus, the gods complain about Jupiter’s tyranny. When they learn Eurydice’s arrival, Jupiter obviously tries to seduce her and the gods make fun of him. It is at this time, that the public opinion announces the arrival of Orpheus... With this production of Orpheus in Hell, Marc Minkowski and Laurent Pelly accelerated the return of Offenbach on the front of the musical scene. If this show is professionally and rigorously staged, , a generous layer of talent and humour makes it also very pleasant. Perpetual and merry frenzy animates the troop – the orchestra, the soloists, the chorus singers and the dancers – who gives all its energy without reserve on a stage enlightened by a thousand inventions. A remarkable and effective interpretation to discover Offenbach, without the fallacious images of the Belle Epoque.  22.45Ilia Rachkovski (new)Concert (50’). 23.45A l’affiche  0.00

This outstanding personality, beyond fame, became a symbol, a prototype, a myth which is the major subject of this film. Each one of us has inside him, a personal Pantheon where we keep the characters who move us particularly and sometimes even, who help us to live. How did Montserrat Caballé gain that exceptional status ? Thierry Bellaïche looks for the elements to find an answer : through a long interview of the diva, by following her in the backstage during the ceremony, by listening to her relatives and close friends, by understanding how the musicians, and even the man in the street consider that outstanding character. All those elements create a mosaic that may explain how modern myths are created. 21.40The 10th Victoires de la musique classique : the foreign revelations (new)Concert (2003, 60’), directed by : Yohan Khatir. 23.15Mc Coy Tyner in MontrealConcert (58’). 0.15A l’affiche  0.30Excelsior (new)Ballet (120’), choreography : L. Bach (new)Concert (123’) with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Simon Rattle.J.-S. Bach (1685-1750) composed the St John Passion (BWV 245) before he left Köthen and it was one of his first representations in Leipzig (on Good Friday in 1724) where he was the musical director and cantor of Saint-Thomas’ school. This passion, like the four others by Bach, is a liturgical passion, composed of two parts before and after the sermon. Added to the chapters 18 and 19 of the John’s gospel, Bach used himself the texts of « Mathew’s gospel » and poems and others texts he worked on. They come from the passion by Barthold Heinrich Brockes published in Hamburg in 1712. Other sources, even older, were used like the text of a passion by Christian Heinrich Postel written around 1700, and a poem by Christian Weise published in Leipzich in 1675. The opening text, « Herr, unser Heerscher », is from an unknown origin. The long piece da capo in G minor, the chorus is clearly one of the most inspired pages by Bach. The feeling of deep distress and fatality illustrates the whole work and sets the tone. The listener will be facing a drama, a terrible mechanism nothing will stop, following an higher cause no one can escape. Even though the St John Passion is a meditative and mystical, work, it is also a dramatic masterpiece where the emotion guides the recitatives the arias. It shows the sufferance and doubts of Christ made man, and thus, the frailty of mankind facing its fate. That dramatic dimension, Simon Rattle chooses to push it to an extreme : he gives an interpretation of Bach’s work close to the opera, and different from the oratorio. At the head of the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra, he interprets the barrocco style with the same talent he already interpreted pieces with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment : this same passion, recorded during a concert at Queen Elizabeth Hall and Les Boréades by Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764). 22.45The paths of the soulDocumentary musical (1999, 52’) by Didier Mertens and Marc Bissot, narration : Jacques Viala. 23.45A l’affiche  0.00A master class with Maxim VengerovDocumentary (50’) by Carl Simmons. Coproduction France 3, Jack Fébus films, Angle Productions and Mezzo. The meeting with Aldo Ciccolini was essential in determining the way Giovanni Mirabassi was to approach music. Through his famous predecessor, it is the teaching of prestigious pianists like Marguerite Length or Alfred Cortot the young self-educated musician collected. When he composes, Giovani Mirabassi says he sometimes thinks of Bach and Chopin. However, one evening during a concert in Perugia where he had the opportunity to play behind Chet Baker, he let us understand his other influences were Bill Evans, Art Tatum, Ahmad Jamal or Keith Jarrett. Since 1992, Giovanni Mirabassi lives and works in Paris, collaborating with Olivier Ker-Ourio, Flavio Boltro, Stéfano di Battista, François Laudet, Riccardo del Fra. In 1996, he won the prize for the best soloist at the Avignon contest when the president was Daniel Humair. For this concert recorded at the Underwater base in Bordeaux, the pianist selected revolutionnary songs from different countries taht were recorded on his album Avanti : A Si M’Bonanga, Place de la mairie, Addio Lugano bella, Le Temps des cerises, Suite pour piano solo (an improvisation by Giovanni Mirabassi), El Pueblo unido jamas sera vencido and Le Chant des partisans. 21.35Michael BreckerConcert (1990, 26’), Jazz in Juan-les-Pins, directed by : Jean-Christophe Averty. 22.45Claude Monet : the moment and the lightDocumentary (année, 52’) by Dominik Rimbault. 23.45A l’affiche  0.00Montserrat Caballé, a legend (new)Documentary (52’), directed by : T. He refused to compose music but he created and inspired many masterpieces by Bartok, Stravinsky, Honegger, Henze, Lutoslawski, Dutilleux, Martinu, Britten… and many others. Only the school of Vienna did not fall under his influence, except Anton Webern.Deeply attached to Bâle, his hometown, Paul Sacher always tried to make it a musical capital : in 1926, he founds the Chamber Music Orchestra of the town, with a choir (two years later). In 1933, he created the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and, in 1941 the Collegium Musicum in Zurich. The greatest institutional creation of Paul Sacher is the foundation that bears his name.. Created in 1973, its first aim was to assemble the archives and the manuscript of the master. Soon, the foundation becomes the manuscripts of many other composers (Stravinski…). For Pierre Boulez, « the foundation Paul Sacher has a collection that represents every essential element og 20th century music. Many libraries won’t be able to assemble such an essential musical corpus. ».With many extracts taken from Paul Sacher’s work : the Music for strings, percussions and célesta by Béla Bartok (1881-1945), the Concerto in D for string orchestra and the Sacre of Spring by Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971), the Double concerto by Bohuslav Martinu (1890-1959), the Symphony n° 2 by Arthur Honegger (1892-1955), the Movement for string quatuor (op. 5) by Anton Webern (1883-1945), the Ritual in memoriam Maderna by Pierre Boulez (born in 1925) and the Sinfonia for eight voices and orchestra by Luciano Berio (born in 1925). 21.40Blue-Beard's castleOpera (1980, 60’) in one prologue and one act by Béla Bartók, booklet Béla Balázs, with Sylvia Sass (Judith), Kolos Kovacs (Herzog, the duke Blue beard) and the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Georg Solti, directed by : Miklos Szinetar. 22.45

He was 12 when he started giving cello lessons. He dedicated all his life to teaching and playing music. « When I brush my teeth on a morning, I have music on my head. When I wake up in the middle of the night too. The day it will not happen like that… I will be dead. » (János Starker)With this film, made with interviews, he teaches in a different way : he wants to transmit his philosophy, he wants to give.During decades, János Starker gave the impression he was cold, with no emotion, a perfect interpret, a perfectionist. About himself he wrote : « János Starker, the cello player around

who the air freezes ».János Starker was born in 1924 in Budapest, and after an incredible youth, he becomes the solo cello of the Budapest Symphonic Orchestra at the age of 21. In 1946, he left Hungry to settle down in Paris : he plays throughout Europe ; two years later, he leaves for the United States where his compatriot, the opera conductor Antal Doráti, invited him. From 1949 to 1953, he is the cello solo of the Metropolitan Orchestra and he starts to teach in Bloomington in 1958. He became a member of the Royal Academy of Music of London in 1981, and received a Grammy Award for his recordings of J-S Bach’s Suites in 1997.János Starker, a music lesson is a strong film, where the emotion of the musician is clearly visible. Etienne Blanchon met Starker a short time after the death of his best friend, the pianist György Sebök ; that death affected János Starker who cancelled a world tour and started thinking of abandoning teaching and recording.János Starker has been a teacher at Bloomington (Indiana) for 40 years. 23.15Avant-garde and Main Stream : François Bourassa and André LerouxConcert (60’). 0.15A l’affiche  0.30Nijinski-FokineBallet (150’) recorded at the Théâtre du Châtelet. In fact, when he became an adult, Samson will never stop attacking the Philistines, killing a thousand of them with an ass’ jaw, burning their crops by releasing three hundred foxes followed by enflamed torches. These heroic works – some authors consider Samson as a biblical Hercules - will be stopped only by the intervention of Dalila. She seduces him, discovers the secret of his might and give him away to the Philistines for a few thousand silver sicles. In Camille Saint-Saëns’ (1835-1921) lyrical works, the biggest success in France was Samson and Dalila, at a time when Massenet, his rival, dominated the parisian scene. Even though Saint-Saëns remains faithful to the French conceit style in his Samson et Dalila, his admiration for Wagner is clear in tha way he treats voices, particularly the voice of the hero hesitating between his love and his faith, like Tannhäuser. Saint-Saëns also uses the leitmotiv system. Samson and Dalila was created in 1877, in Weimar ; the first performance in France took place in Rouen in 1890. The opera remained on the program until the 60’s but is not staged very often today. The heroin of Samson and Dalila by Camille Saint-Saëns is entirely devoted to her people. She acts out of pure patriotism. She even refuses the money Philistine princes offer her. Driven by her political goal, she will use all the subterfuges, all the perfidies, to lose the man who has been humiliating the Philistines for such a long time. In front of her, Samson seems to be initially a symbol of the Jewish people. The characters have an allegorical value and, above all, the opera shows the fight between the two people. Thereafter, Samson reveals his humanity and individuality, fighting against a desire which he knows is impure but which he cannot resist. He doubts, he feels remorse and, after his defeat, he triumphs according to the divine predestination fixed by his fate.  23.00Akiko Ebi (new)Concert (2001, 55’) recorded at the Théâtre du Châtelet, directed by : Karl More.

It shows beautiful pictures of La Profonde pensée, La Vague, L’Age mûr, and the Causeuses….Camille Claudel (1864-1943) was born in Champagne, in a rich family ; she is the elder sister of Paul Claudel. A s a child, she is already talented for sculpture. In Nogent-sur-Marne, she is noticed by Alfred Boucher, the friend of Auguste Rodin, and she becomes his pupil. The Claudel family settles down in Paris in 1881, when Camille is seventeen ; soon, Boucher is appointed in Rome and leaves his pupils with Rodin. Camille Claudel’s talent is clearly recognized by the master, her talent but also her beauty and charm. Camille is the only pupil, the lover, the friend… and Auguste is the master. Camille works on Rodin’s masterpieces (Les Bourgeois de Calais, La Porte de l’Enfer) and creates her own. « I showed her where to find the gold but all the gold she finds is hers » Rodin said. Sakountala, at that time, is a sculpture inspired by a Indian legend where two lovers, separated in real life, meet again in Nirvana. Camille creates and Camille loves Rodin. But after 15 years, they break up. Rodin didn’t marry Camille, and that total love will slowly change in her mind. In 1899, she moves to the Ile Saint-Louis in Paris, and will live there until 1913. After many years of isolation and depression (she will even destroy some of her sculptures) and financial problems, her family forces her into a mad people’s home.Camille Claudel lived, created and loved with Rodin, in his shadow. She lost herself and she died. « There is always something missing that torments me. » (C. Claudel) 23.45A l’affiche  0.00János Starker's 75th birthdayConcert (89’) at the Indiana University Opera, conducted by M. Rostropovitch. She became an « étoile » in 1984. She won many prizes : the Varna prize (1983), the Carpeaux prize (1984), the Andersen prize and the National Grand prize of dance (1988), the Pavlova prize (1989), the Alexandre Benois prize in Moscow (1994)… She is also « Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres » and knight of the Légion d'Honneur (1995).Sylvie Guillem is in institution by herself. Behind that artist, is hidden a fragile and shy woman. She does not feel at ease with her character the public praises.Françoise Ha van Kern explored that double personality with the complicity of Sylvie Guillem ; few words, few discussions but looks, attitudes and movements, a strange language which perfectly illustrates the difficulties encountered by the dancer to talk about herself. With extracts taken from Don Quichotte and Romeo and Juliet in choreographies by Rudolf Noureev, from Hexetanz in a choreography by Mary Wigman, from Classic instinct in a choregraphy by Sylvie Guillem, from Ten blisters in a choreography by David Kern, from Giselle in a choreography by Sylvie Guillem after Coralli and Perrot, and from The Swans lake in a choreography by Sir Anthony Dowell after Marius Petipa. 22.15ClavigoBallet (1999, 84’) by Roland Petit inspired by the play by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, music by Gabriel Yared, with the Ballet of the Paris National Opera, Nicolas Le Riche (Clavigo), Clairemarie Osta (Marie, the young girl), Marie-Agnès Gillot (the alien woman) Yann Saiz (the brother), Yann Bridart (the friend), and the Orchestra of the Paris Opera conducted by Richard Bernas, costumes : Luisa Spinatelli, settings : Jean-Michel Wilmotte, directed by : François Roussillon. 23.15Marciac Sweet 2000 : Dee Dee BridgewaterConcert (2000, 60’), directed by : Frank Cassenti. 0.15

22.45Montpellier Festival 2002 : Raphaël Wallfisch and John York (new)Concert (2002, 60’), directed by : Gilles Le Mao, Guillaume Dero.
