She studied with celebrated teachers including Grace Bumbry, Brigitte Fassbaender, Deborah Polaski, Gisela Litz, Kurt Moll, James Wagner, Brigitte Eisenfeld, Klara Kadinskaya and Ute Niss. She is a DAAD Scholar and winner of the Richard Strauss Gesangswettbewerb Advancement Prize, of the 7th International Stanislaw Moniuszko Vocal Competition for Best performance of a Verdi Aria and of the Kammeroper Schloß Rheinsberg Young Vocalist Competition, She has gone on to perform on the international circuit, particularly in concert. Maria Bulgakova is a full soprano spinto and is especially suited to the rôles of Wagner, Strauss, Verdi, Puccini, the Russian repertory and contemporary works. Her Wagner CD recording entitled Liebeserklaerungen, declarations of love was issued at the end of 2016 under the Hänssler Classic label.
