“WHAT DOES MY COUNCILLOR DO FOR ME?”

DECEMBER 2012 News from your local, Independent Councillor,

MARIANNE OVERTON

Thank You Thank you for your support in the Police and

Crime Commissioner elections. With your help,

Independents came first and second; David

Bowles won the first round, and Alan Hardwick

won overall. We wish Alan every success.

Independents did well across the country,

winning around a third of England and Wales,

but yellow-belly Lincolnshire most of all. The

public appeared to reject party political control

of our local service. If we do not need national

party politics to control our police, do we need it

in Local Government at all?

£500 Award to village organisations.

Thank you for your votes, the results of which

will be announced in January as promised.

Your Opinion Wanted New Recycling Tax NKDC is proposing to charge for the collection of garden waste. I have asked for the proposal to be balanced in the normal way with all the other proposals in the usual budget process. Let me know what you think. The Warden at Donna Nook explained the challenges facing over a hundred seal pups, strewn at our feet on the sandy beach. I organised the coach trip for the West Kesteven Wildlife Watch Group last month. Next is the Christmas Party and Photo Competition organised thanks to young leader Jake Beaty. Dec 8th 10am Welbourn Village Hall. All welcome.

Devolution and the stark difference in local government funding was evident at the UK Forum last week. Local Government leaders of Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland met in Belfast. We also visited the privately driven dockland regeneration, which included the impressive museum, the Ttitanic Centre. This bow size is life size and situated in its original launch position. Great ideas for a museum. The innovative new film studios where the fantasy series “Game of Thrones” is filmed was an interesting new business opportunity.

Notice in Lincoln City Hall: No wonder some people were wondering what it was all about!
