PARIS LOFT16eme, Paris

Stage D

Penthouse AppartmentThe appartement consists of the two last floors and a terace, being in total 1000 sq.m. In stage D, two proposals in scale 1:50 where designed focusing into 4 parts: Bedrooms, Living Room, Kitchen and Terrace, accord-ing to the client’s needs. Each unit was fur-ther presented with material proposals and different arrangements through rendered images. The proposals are dynamic and introduce new radical qualities to this 70s pre-existing environment.

BEAUTY ON DISPLAYJardin Du Palais-Royal, FranceBeauty on display constitutes an intrinsic environment whichchallenges the idea of clothing as a primary need. Denyingthe act of dressing up in a mass production way, this projectsintroduces the idea of clothes as unique art pieces that shineon the feminine body. The result is a space of visual pleasurein which women can focus on the approach of the brand as if in a fashion museum . On the other hand, a flowing catwalk guides the customer to accessible pieces which she can try and enjoy the act of showing them to her companion.A duality of interaction and contemplation is thus achievedwhile the space remains dynamic and full of female bustier that represents the profile of the salt of the earth woman.

“Con-crear” project aims to advance and contribute in the ongoing research of additive manufacturing finally revealing new potentiali-ties. The innate material’s behavior is studied and informed in order to liberate architecture from pre-conceived forms and sterile formal explorations while the construction process is completely visible to the outcome. In “Concrear” the material can be deposited accrording to certain parameters optimizing in the end the material system.

Additive manufacturing has been associated with layering in horizontal axis, a fact that reveals the great chance of exploring vertical extrusion, differentiating in this way completely how architecture looks like. The result of this manufacturing is concrete structures that no other method would achieve.

“Con-Crear” seeks to take further the already established technology and research of 3DCP and on-site constructions, proposing in the end a highly innovative system that will remain accessible and realisable. So, by liberating the structure of the known constraints like molds and scaffolds but embedding others which derive from the material’s properties and the rules of nature (on top of all, the gravity), how much further can we go?

Robotic FOAMingMaterial-Robotic research

2 Control Points

Twisting for UncertaintyDuring the Robotic FOAMing workshop we developed a series of strategies which aim to advance and contribute in the on going re-search of additive manufacturing finally revealing new potentali-ties. Utilising a fixed configuration of three industrial robots we focused on the co-relation of uncertainty and control on the design out-come. Our aim was to explore twisting strategies within an environment of 4 points of control with a specified spatial range while taking into account the parameters of material properties and ammount, speed of material manipulation, timing, sychronisation and tool-paths. Oriented towards a foam and additives mix which allowed the creation of fibers and cavities we created a number of samples that operate as connectors in space while they are composed by filaments in a logic of uncontrolled matter distribution.

METHODStudy of the tile in a draft paper model. The folding process is simulated using Kan-garoo plug-in in Grasshopper. Finally, an 1:1 scale model of an array of the panels is built before the final metal piece.

The panel is composed of two identical parts which have three different screw places. This allows a variety of sizes of the panel and a variety of light’s penetration. Summing up , this versatile size leads to a more flexible approach to facade’s design.

Crete, GreeceWelcome to MoceningoJune. The sun is blinding, the heat is unbearable. An oasis peeking bastion Mocenigo. A shade of trees in midsummer. The coolness by the sea is calling.

At the city limits and next to the sea, rises the bastion. A little piece of paradise looks unchanged by time. So far, that resi-dents and visitors are reluctant to approach. Elsewhere, the public space is more flashy, more entertaining.

But we want to come here. Bastion Mocenigo. To experience the city like they’re out of this. Hovering above it. While being inside. To realize that this here the soil is part of it. Observa-tory. Monitoring pirates threatening one and certainly Vene-tian fort on the other. Here your imagination can travel along with the Sea and Sinbad Andromeda.

The ribbons dancing in the breeze made by hand purport-edly calling the visitor to the edge of town. The music of the chimes that are hung on them, is the whistle to realize that something is happening there. A colorful festival has been erected in the bastion.

Just pull aside three to four ribbons and enter. An intangible bulwark erected. Colored nets between the trees stretching towards the sky at the height of their foliage. At the same time, ribbons hanging from their arms, signaling the gates to get into the story and you decide whether you will eventually be Sinbad or Andromeda ...
