    Power transmission systems with gastight bulkhead and/or deck glands between engine rooms andpump rooms

    The shaf t t ransmissions with ga stight bulkhea ds a nd/or de ck glan ds ha ve been developed for sma ll

    a nd me dium size ta nkers fo r the po w er tran smission from d riving eng ines in the eng ine-room t o carg o

    pumps in the pump room. A suitably designed flange with centering ring enables the mounting of

    the tra nsmission on the deck or bulkhea d. The sha ft of th e ga stigh t bulkhea d gla nd is eq uipped with

    tw o g rease lubrica ted roller bea ring s (a t ea ch side one be a ring ) a nd sealed by mea ns of an o il reser-

    voir, which is mounted approx. 0,50 0,75 m above the shaft centreline. Other kinds of special seals

    such as ra dial seal ring s and single or d oub le mechanica l sea ls, can be delivered on reque st. The t rans-

    mission w ith ga stigh t g lands a re design ed a ccording to the latest rules of the cla ssif ication societies

    a nd can be de livered w ith t ype -te st certif icat es fro m ABS, BV, DNV, GL, L.R.o.S. a nd R.I.N.A.

    Driving arrangements for cargo pumps (mainly for smaller tankers)

    - Electric motor or diesel engine as prime mover for cargo pump

    If a diesel eng ine is provided a s driver, w hich will a lso be used f or g ene rat or-drive and /or

    a s ma in pow er source, then a highly ela stic coupling w ith a clutch ha s to b e insta lled b etw een

    diesel engine a nd g a stigh t b ulkhea d g land (see sketch).

    The combina tion of a highly ela stic coupling w ith a ma nua lly or pneuma tica lly opera ted

    clutch ensures rela tively short mount ing lengt hs and w ill be preferred especially on sma ll

    ta nkers. A spacer type flexible coupling w ill be recommende d f or the insta lla tion b etw eenga st ight bulkhead gland and cargo-pump in t his arrang ement t oo . The system arrang ement

    from d iesel engine pow er ta ke-off to t he cargo pump driving shaft w ill be selected b y us

    a nd a t orsional vibration calculation w ill be carried out t o ensure the proper operat ion of

    the selected system compo nent s.

    The priming system o f a centrifug a l pump is a n independe nt compo nent pa rt of t he to ta l pumping

    system a rrang ement . Besides the size o f t he pum p it is a lso critical to the selection o f t he suita ble

    system whether the pump mainly has to be evacuated before starting (e.g. pumps working from sea

    w at er tank) or w hether during a nd a t t he end o f the pump operat ion air/ga s has to b e discharged

    from t he system (e.g. b ilge , ba llst or carg o pum ps)

    The speed from the cargo pum p can be manua lly reduced locally

    Deepwell cargo pump, consisting of pumpend withhigh-eff iency impeller, PTFE seals and pum phousing .Hydraulic motor is protected by means o f a shellwith cofferdam w ith sealleakage system, preventinghydraulic oil from getting into cont act with cargobeing pumped. Pipestack will be produced accordingto the required length complete with top plate anddeck trunk. Delivery will be complete w ith a suctionwell, designed for the best stripping eff iciency.Top plate will be delivered with a hydraulic controlvalve which optimises pump discharge rate depen-ding on the cargo pumps discharge pressure. Alsoany deepwell pump is equipped with an emergencystop button and hand operated valve for localcontrol and stripping.Mate rials for the cargo pumps are AISI-316 and PTFE.Capacity ran ge fro m 50 to 1100 m3/hr at ma x.pressure of 130 mlc.
