Sunrise Yachts 63M – 200BTE Electric Bow Thruster System

Engtek Manoeuvra Systems (EMS) introduces a new series of Yacht Bow and Stern Thruster Systems designed to provide any Yacht maximum Maneuverability with “Silent" and Reliable operation.

Using the Dual Propeller Counter Rotating design, a highly efficient thruster system has been developed that recovers rotational lost energy and maximizes thrust in a very small tunnel diameter. The drive motor is mounted directly to the thruster by using a hollow shaft configuration (standard SAE sizes) for input shafts from electric or hydraulic motors or from an optional stub shaft configuration (for direct drives), eliminating the need of the adapter housing and coupling; it uses rubber isolation mountings to eliminate

vibration. The complete thruster unit is compact, efficient, “SILENT”

and ruggedly designed for the Super Yacht of the future. Systems are designed for Yachts ranging from 60 to 350 feet (18 to 95 meters).

EMS-Thrusters Page 3 of 11 EMS Yacht Thrusters are designed with spiral beveled casehardened right angle gears suitable for electric, diesel engine, or hydraulic drives. This versatile series of Yacht Thrusters allows installation with the drive vertical or horizontal. Installation may be varied therefore, to suit the needs of a specific, vessel design, providing possible space savings and convenient maintenance access. The thruster hollow-shaft drive and propeller shafts are made of high strength stainless steel, and contain anti-friction taper roller bearings.

Hydraulic Thruster Systems are designed around closed loop hydraulic circuits using piston

type pumps and motors for maximum efficiency. Variable speed systems can be employed through the use of variable displacements pumps or a variable flow control valve. The closed loop system requires a small oil reservoir for oil replacement and cooling.

Open Loop Hydraulic Control Circuits are used for Hydraulic System Integration where other hydraulic sub-systems are operated from a common hydraulic system. Components often used in this configuration are: passerelles, windlasses, stabilizers, cranes, winches, bilge pumps, generator drives and auxiliary propulsion systems.

EMS-Yacht Hydraulic Thruster Systems can provide the

“Complete Package Concept”. The scope of supply to

include all the necessary components for the basic thruster system. The hydraulic pump is assumed to be driven by a constant speed engine (e.g. generator set) with adequate available horsepower. For variable speed, main engine drives, or any other application, please contact our engineering team for further assistance.

Thrusters are rated for continuous horsepower, delivering full thrust, manufactured in steel

(aluminum and stainless available) with a four bladed NAB propeller and mounting saddle.

Page 4 of Tunnels are offered in steel as standard supply and optional for fiberglass and aluminum.

Hydraulic Reservoir is ready to be installed in the vessel. All components are tank mounted. The reservoir includes the tank; return line filter, filler/breather cap, sight glass, level alarm switch and high oil temperature alarm switch. The tank is sized for intermittent duty. For continuous duty rating a heat exchanger is recommended. Hydraulic Manifold Assembly includes the bow thruster directional control valve, the system pressure relief valve and is completely assembled and ready to be installed.

Hydraulic Pump (Main Drive) is a piston type design. Input speed is

calculated at 1800 rpm (1500 rpm systems available). The circuit is open loop and therefore can be integrated with other hydraulic sub-systems.

Main Bridge Control Console is panel mounted. Included in the panel is a Joy Stick Controller providing Port-Neutral-Starboard thrust commands, a system On/Off switch which includes a contact for clutch operation (customer furnished), low oil level and high oil temperature alarms.

A series of tunnel type thruster systems designed as retractable units. Units are offered with retractable / extension cylinders and full Bridge Controls. A swing configuration is also available. The retractable thruster series is best suited for high performance sailing yachts, fast planing

yachts, fast and planing semi-displacement hulls, where the thruster, in its raised position, gives a completely clean-faired hull section, with little or no drag. They can be mounted forward, in vessels with a shallow forefoot. Their retraction strut allows deep immersion, increasing thruster efficiency. The thruster is driven, raised and lowered hydraulically and locked in its drive position. Available from 50 to 350 Horsepower.

EMS- Marine Thrusters introduce a series of Yacht bow thruster systems designed using AC electric motor drives and variable speed frequency converter technology. They are designed to minimize noise and cavitation. The thruster system comes complete with a variable speed electric drive and full bridge controls. Available from 50 to 300 Kw.

A “Unique” Series of Electric Thrusters and Propulsors, using Azipod Technology by incorporating the electric motor as an integral part of the thruster hub, introducing “Silent Systems” that are, efficient, compact and light weight using carbon-fiber propeller technology. The drives utilize variable speed motor controllers. The thruster tunnel pod ratios are idealized for maximum flow conditions. Typical systems are half

the weight of the standard electric bow thruster system. Simple installation saves the shipyard and owner cost.

The Complete system is designed for easy installation, hookup and service. The major components to be installed are the thruster, motor controller and bridge console and remotes if required. All electrical interfaces are well marked and ready to be hooked up.

VFD - Motor Controller (low harmonic drives available)

The E-Pod Thruster variable-speed controller is of the variable torque, inverter type providing full speed control to the bow thruster in both directions.

Through use of the inverter motor controller (VFD-Drive) “no motor inrush current problems exist” and therefore the soft start (no load condition) ensures that the generators can handle the starting current problems inherent to other types of motor controllers. The motor controller is remotely operated by the bridge-mounted variable-speed Joy Stick Controller. Remote control stations are available.

Yacht Thruster Systems introduce the New Azimuthing Bow Thruster System, designed for a fine faired, or bulbous Bow. The Azimuthing PumpJet design is based on experience gained in the Offshore Naval Patrol Boat market and offers a boat the following advantages: A Dynamic Azimuthing PumpJet Thruster System, providing unique maneuverability in harbors. Standby Slow Speed Propulsion and “Emergency Steering “ with a “Get me Home System”. Available from 150 to 500 horsepower.

The Azimuthing PumpJet can replace a standard tunnel thruster system and offers many advantages over retractable or swing type thruster systems, by providing full Rotatable thrust through 360 degrees. The Azimuthing PumpJet system can be mounted in fine-faired hulls. The Azimuthing PumpJet is available in a number of various design configurations, mounted with no vulnerable parts protruding past the Yachts hull. It is simple to operate, trouble free, has extended life and is very economical.

Azimuthing PumpJet Thruster Systems can be driven hydraulically, by electric motor or by using a direct engine drive. They utilize the latest Control Technology and Materials and can be furnished as complete systems and will provide

A Silent “Sailing” Revolution

There is hardly a more enchanting and natural experience than sailing a yacht quietly and peacefully with light wind in calm waters at moderate speeds. This marvelous feeling has always been the envy of every sailing yacht owner. This can now be achieved with a new sail drive concept. The EDS Drive is a new electrical drive system for sailing yachts. Instead of coupling the engine to the propeller shaft, a generator supplies power directly to the electric drive. The new EDS drives are so quiet that they are practically inaudible at normal operating speeds.

Permanent magnet, type AC EDS Drives provides the Yacht Thruster market numerous advantages. By incorporating the winding in the stator and using permanent magnets on the rotor, the thruster motor benefits from a higher thermal efficiency and reduced rotor inertia versus that of brush-type motors.

Electric Podded Rotatable Propulsors For Main Propulsion with Dynamic Positioning Interface Capabilities

Engtek Manoeuvra Systems Pte Ltd, part of the Engtek Group of companies is recognized as one of the worlds leading Electric Podded Thruster and Propulsion Systems Manufacturer and introduces its unique Electric Podded Rotatable Propulsion Units for all types of Marine applications.

Engtek Manoeuvra Electric Podded Propulsion Systems “through-hull” is designed for main propulsion of heavy duty workboats tugs etc with/without Kort type nozzles or for higher speed vessels (Yachts) with Shrouds for propeller protection. In most applications, two units are installed in wells located in the stern section of the vessel. They use fixed pitch propellers either with nozzles or propeller shrouds. The units are usually individually controlled by full follow-up joysticks that control the propeller speed (rpm) from zero to full rpm through the VFD controller (air or water cooled). Design

Low Profile Design – Low Noise Engtek’s unique design features a very low Pod to Propeller ratio to minimize turbulence and therefore minimize noise and vibration. The Podded Propulsion assembly has the Rotor attached directly to the propeller shaft without any gearing involved. The Shaft Assembly and Propeller are dynamically balanced to assure less noise and eliminate any vibration – A very quiet drive. The Electric Podded Dives is designed for installation in wells. The wells (shipyard furnished) are large enough to allow top-side installation and removal of the completely assembled thruster unit. Installation and removal takes place through soft patches in the main deck. If practical, the top flange of the well is at an elevation slightly above waterline in light ship condition. This allows removal and installation of the Propulsion Drive while the vessel remains in the water, i.e., without dry docking. The thruster mount is provided with a top flange for bolting to the well flange. The well flange is also provided, along with the flange gasket and bolting, allowing easy and accurate installation without the need for any machining on the vessel well structure.

Ease of Installation with reduced costs…

With the electric motor designed as part of the thruster pod and water cooled, there are no requirements for forced air ventilation of the electric motor, no shafting requirements with any couplings and alignments necessary.

Noise Suppression Technology…

Because the electric motor is designed as an integral part of the thruster hub and attached directly to the propeller shaft, there are no gears boxes or gear reductions providing maximum system efficiency with lower noise and vibration levels produced.
