Mariner 10 Pro: Charging

The tablet must be charged before use, however it does not need to be fully charged for setup. Try to plug it in somewhere accessible so you can continue with setup while it charges.

1. Connect the AC adaptor to the tablet, using the port marked ‘DC IN’ (left side of tablet). A light on the back of the tablet will confirm that charging is taking place

2. Hold down the power button for 2-3 seconds to switch the tablet on3. If the tablet does not yet switch on, it may need more time to charge.

1. Press and hold the power key (left side) for 2-3 seconds to switch the device on

1. If the device does not switch on:a. Please ensure you have

charged the device for at least half an hour

b. If it is still not working, contact the Logistics team:

should be English (United Kingdom)

1. If required, tap “Vision settings” to change the default zoom, font size and use accessibility options such as a screen reader. Use the back arrow when finished.

The next screen is for WiFi setup.

The next screen will ask if you would like to copy apps and data (e.g. contacts) from your Google account

If you use a Google account on another device, you may wish to tap ‘Next’ and follow the instructions provided

Otherwise, tap ‘Don’t copy’

Mariner 10 Pro: Google Account

This section will guide you through setting up (or logging in to) a Google account. You will need this to download apps, access email and use more features of your tablet.

If you have an existing Google account:

● Find the email address and password

● Another device e.g. your phone may be needed to pass any security checks

● Use the ‘forgot email’ or ‘forgot password’ options if needed

If you do not have an account, or cannot access your existing one:

1. Tap ‘Create account’ and select ‘For myself’

1. Enter your:a. First name and last nameb. Birthday and gender

Remember to use your real information, as this will be important if you need to reset the password at a later date

3. Set up a gmail.com email address to use with the account

● 6-30 characters long● Use letters, numbers and full stops

only● Many email addresses are already

taken - if you receive this message, adjust or change and try again

Note this new email address somewhere safe for future reference

CREATE A STRONG PASSWORD

4. Enter a password and type it again in the second box to confirm

Remember: You will need this password to access email and other Google tools in future

● Use a mixture of letters, numbers and symbols

● Don’t use any elements of your or your family’s names, address or dates of birth

● Do not share with others

5. You will be prompted to add a phone number. If you would like to do this, tap ‘Yes, I’m in’ and follow the instructions given

This will allow you to access your account in future if you forget your password. If you would prefer to skip this, select ‘Skip’ at the bottom of the page

6. On the review page, tap ‘Next’ and then read the terms and conditions

7. Tick the boxes to confirm you agree with the terms, and then tap ‘Create Account’ to continue

8. The next screen will ask if you would like to back up data to Google Drive. Use the blue toggle to switch this on or off and tap ‘Accept’

This is the account you will use when you download an app, log in to Gmail or use other Google services

Remember to record your new email address somewhere safe

You will need to to read and agree to Google’s terms and conditions

We recommend that location and scanning features are switched off at this stage, and can be switched on later from the device settings if required. Tap on the blue toggles to switch these on and off as preferred.

When you’re ready, tap the blue ‘More’and then ‘Accept’ button to proceed

Mariner 10 Pro: Screen Lock

The next screen will ask you to set up device protection using one of the following - this is highly recommended.

You will require this for future access -so remember what you choose or make a note somewhere safe

● Pattern - Draw a pattern on a 9x9 grid, covering at least 4 dots

● PIN - Set a PIN with at least 4 digits. Remember to not use something too obvious like your birthday or ‘1234’

● Password - Set a password with at least 4 letters, numbers or symbols

Mariner 10 Pro: Google Assistant

The Google Assistant offers voice search and control for your tablet

If you’d like to use this, select ‘Turn on’

If not, or if you’re not sure, tap ‘No thanks’, then ‘Next’ - you can set this up later if you change your mind

Before finishing set up, you can:

● Add another email account (for example if you have an Outlook or Yahoo account)

● Change the font size for easier reading

● Change the wallpaper to personalise your tablet

All of these options can be access later from the settings too. When ready, tap ‘Finished for now’ to complete setup

Setup is complete!

You’re now on the home screen of your tablet, where you’ll find pre-installed apps ready to use

TAP to select an item (for example, to open an app)

PRESS AND HOLD to see app information or other options

SWIPE across the screen to navigate between pages, or to scroll up and down

ZOOM by placing two fingers on the screen and sliding them apart (to zoom in) or together to zoom out)

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen - or tap the up arrow - to see all of the pre-installed apps

You can install new apps by tapping ‘Play Store’ on the Home screen

Some apps will already appear on the Home screen for easy access - tap on one to try it out

In the settings you will find:

● WiFi information and options● Battery level● Display settings (e.g. brightness)● Security options● Accessibility options

...and more! Access the settings by:

● Tapping on the cog app on your home screen

● Swiping down from the top of the tablet for shortcuts to key settings

● Swiping up from the bottom of the tablet and tapping the Settings app

To change your screen lock:

1. Open Settings (see previous page)

1. Tap ‘Security & location’ (you may need to scroll down) and then tap ‘Screen lock’

1. Enter the current pattern, PIN or password, then choose the new method you’d like to use and follow instructions to set up

To access your tablet again later:

● Switch the device on (and off) using the power key - just hold for 2-3 seconds● Remember the screen lock you set earlier? You’ll need this each time you switch

your device back on, or if the screen locks, to keep your tablet secure

Mariner 10 Pro: Troubleshooting

In this section we’ll cover some of the steps to follow if your device stops responding

Frozen screen

If the tablet is not responding to tapping and/or swiping, try the following:

● Wait 10 seconds before trying the action again

If that doesn’t work:

● Quickly press and release the power button to turn the screen off

● Press the power button again and unlock

Mariner 10 Pro: RestartingIf your tablet is still not responding, it may need to be restarted

Restart

If the tablet screen is on:

● Press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds until the option to turn off/restart appears

● Tap ‘Restart’ and wait for your device to turn itself off and on again

If the box does not appear, hold the power button for 10 seconds to turn the device off, or insert a paperclip into the reset hole on the back of the tablet

Then try to start up as normal (see p.9)

Mariner 10 Pro: Troubleshooting

Blank screen or won’t turn on

Firstly, plug your tablet in to charge (see p.7)

We recommend leaving the tablet charging for 30 minutes before trying to turn it on again

Once charged, hold down the power button for 2-3 seconds

Mariner 10 Pro: Resetting

If restarting is not working, or if the screen will not turn on after trying the previous steps, you may need to reset your device

Please be aware this will reset your device and wipe all files, apps and settings. All steps on p.38-40 should be followed before proceeding to the next page

Mariner 10 Pro: Resetting

With the screen off:

1. Hold the volume down key and press the power button

2. When the menu pictured (left) appears, let go of the buttons

3. Use the volume buttons to move the highlight to Wipe data/factory reset and press the power button

4. Use the volume up/down button to highlight Yes and press the power button

5. When the main menu reappears, press the power button to restart

6. You’ll now need to set up your tablet from p.10 of this guide
