From the Principal Last night we held our Sport’s Awards and it was a wonderful celebraon of all our sporng endeavours. I would like to acknowledge the way our girls compete and salute their fine sportsmanship evident in their compeons. However, this would not be possible without a team of amazing people. Miss Janelle Tuapi, Sports Co-ordinator and her assistant Mrs Maria Walker and the dedicated coaches and managers are to be commended for their generosity and never-ending support. We were delighted to have two guest speakers who joined us for the evening. Eloise Blackwell who has been a Black Fern since 2011 and Linda Etuunu who has been a Black Fern and in Rugby 7s since 2003. They had great words of wisdom but the one I really liked was ‘giſts and talents will take you to the top but character and integrity will keep you there’. They spoke of the struggle of women’s sport. They both have full-me jobs and only this year have they been termed professional (but not with the money that goes with that). We congratulate all award winners. The major prize winners are: Nga mihi nui. In the first week of the school holidays, Sheirelle Santiago, Hailey Igoy, Antonia Scaramella and Isabella Caballero (Year 8 Marist students), traveled to Los Angeles, California as members of the Auckland Girls' Choir. We performed and visited many places like Disneyland and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. In Disneyland, we had a recording session with Disney singer Vangie Gunn, then we sang on the Disney Performing Arts stage.

We had many workshops and exchanges with choirs from different schools including the University of Southern California choir. On tour, we sang a lot but we also traveled to Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Santa Monica Pier and San Diego.

In the last few days of the trip, we stayed in Palm Springs to work with the Rancho Mirage High School choir and their conductor - Mr Andy Eisenmann, who we met in Sydney two years ago.

It was a great opportunity and once in a lifetime experience for us to travel, sing and bond with our fellow choristers.

Fabric Technology students at WoW in WellingtonThe WoW event was such an amazing experience. It was my first time seeing all the interesting and unique costumes that different designers have crafted. The playful use of a range of textiles was brilliant and inspiring! MikaelaIt was a wonderful experience and I really liked all the costumes that were made. Those designers have a great talent SherenaThe WoW show was impressive. I feel very inspired by those stunning designs and the stage. EvelynI enjoyed seeing the creativity of the garments and the hard work the designers put into making the show happen. AlexThe WoW trip was mad as. There were performers in the show when I thought it would be Victoria’s Secret minus the celebrities. There was also biking in things that looked like golf carts, the mall, the museum and late-night snacks. MemphisIt was truly a memorable final trip. Wellington is a beautiful city filled with artistic inspiration. We are so thankful for the opportunity to be part of it. Chantelle

Star Course Update:

The Flight Attendant course was a very fun and informative experience, where we learned about the possible real-life situations that we could come across within the job. We took part in both theory work, and role plays, to give us a look into how to treat passengers, of safety demonstrations and what a meal service could entail. Everyone very supportive and fun to work with as well as the tutors being people who had experience within the industry. It is definitely a course that is worth doing and gives you a taste of what the industry is really like. Thank you so much for the opportunity! Sophie Van NesHi, the course was great! I went on both days and enjoyed every bit of it and also meeting other students. The practical work was a bit challenging for me because we had to perform as being a customer service but I ended up doing a pretty good job at it I learnt so much from the course and I know that it will help me a lot in the future if I want to work at clothing stores or any other stores as being a customer service! Being part of St Peter's Foster Kids Day on Saturday 22 September 2018 was an incredible experience. For being my first time, I started off feeling a bit nervous, but I ended up being really comfortable. We had some activities set up for them- painting, face painting, colouring in, sports equipment- but we just did whatever the kids wanted to do. They weren't Foster Kids to us; they were just kids. It was amazing how quickly they trusted me, trusted all of us. They were so open and willing to share themselves, their stories, their time and laughter with us. I think we all gained something from spending time together, whether it was some time to relax, having fun, or being reminded of the simple joy of being a child. Overall it was a humbling, enjoyable day and I look forward to seeing them again! Evangeline Moverley, Year 12
