Curriculum Development Experience At Washington State University, as department chair, I played a lead role in the following activities:

Provided course specifications (goals and objectives) for the Model Curriculum Committee for the Association for Information Systems, the professional association for the Information Systems field. Course contribution focused on Information Systems Project Management.

Co-designed (as a task force member) an EMBA program to be launched out of the Spokane Market, as well as personally designing two IS courses that were included in the proposal (Business Intelligence and Decision Making, Information Technology Strategy).

Created a proposal (at the Dean’s request) for a Global EMBA curriculum involving face to face along with significant online delivery, as well as study abroad. This proposal included proposed budgetary analysis, as well as an assessment of necessary technology infrastructure. This proposal was personally presented to University leadership.

Spearheaded redesign (through 2006 and 2007) of the MIS undergraduate curriculum, to include new classes on business intelligence, risk and security, web technologies and innovation, and incorporating a more comprehensive global component while retaining critical components related to building business and interpersonal skills.

Co-redesigned our Ph.D. program after changes in College of Business Ph.D. Requirements, which included redesigning our doctoral seminars to align with a new college level behavioral methods seminar.

Updated (in 2004) our undergraduate curriculum to include greater integration of technical content including programming skills using Microsoft’s VisualStudio..NET, incorporating courses in VB.NET, and C#.NET.

Co-designed our Ph.D. program course sequence (2004), to leverage our area of specialization in MIS behavioral research. This re-design included the creation of a four-course sequence of MIS Research Foundations, MIS Research Methods, MIS Research Topics, and a capstone MIS Proposal Development Seminar. In addition, students were also required to take a four-course psychology sequence on methods and statistics, particularly focused on methods appropriate to behavioral research (including ANOVA, Regression, Psychometrics, and SEM Analytic techniques).

Completed the design (including coordinating course design) of our entire MIS curriculum for offering through WSU’s Distance Degree Programs (2002 – current).

Developed a new MBA Core Course on Information Systems Strategy, while serving on the MBA core faculty.

Co-designed Information Technology Project Team Management, a capstone required course on project management in our UG curriculum. Course was designed to be a fully hands-on IS project management class, involving the development of a system as well as associated project team deliverables. This design received a reward for teaching innovation from the College of Business and Economics at Washington State University.

At Baylor University I was a member of the MBA Core and EMBA Core, a small group of faculty selected to design (1994-2000) and teach in both the MBA and EMBA program (one representative from each discipline). As part of these efforts, I

Developed and taught an entirely new course examining the interaction of technology with business strategy, including concepts of global IS perspectives, technology-driven change, the role of the Internet in business, IT project management, technology acceptance and implementation.

Was among the first faculty members in the nation to create a cooperative agreement with Harvard Business School Press for using Harvard Case Study materials in a completely online fashion, allowing the acquisition of materials in a dynamic fashion as the semester progressed.

Created, along with another professor, a new course covering the basics of how to use standard information technology applications to enhance managerial decision making.

Was co-responsible for coordinating team-building activities during the initial week of the EMBA experience.

Added two new permanent faculty lines to the College of Business designated for the Department of Information Systems Faculty lines were added through petitions to the State of Washington Higher Education Commission for new faculty in High Demand Areas (competitive statewide process). This required a proposal involving state technology worker demand, as well as a local analysis of our inability to current meet that demand. Value of each line at approximately $150,000, for a total of $300,000. Initial value of these two lines to the College of Business roughly equate to funds available from a 7.5 million dollar endowment.
