Faculty Council Chair. University of Colorado, System and (2002 - 2004, 2010 – 2012 ) I was elected
to serve as Faculty Council Chair in 2002 after having served as Vice Chair 2001-2002. I was re-elected
as Chair in 2003. I was elected again as Chair in 2010 and re-elected in 2011. The Chair presides over
meetings of the Faculty Council and the Faculty Council Executive Committee. The Chair is an ex
officio member of all seven standing and two ad hoc committees reporting to the Council including EPUS
(Educational Policy and University Standards), Budget, Personnel & Benefits, Faculty Minority Affairs,
Women’s, GBLT (Gay, Bisexual, Lesbian, and Transsexual), and LETTS (Learning, Educational
Technology, Teaching, and Scholarship), Faculty Council Communications Committee, Joint Committee
on Equity and Salary Issues. The Chair of Council reports at least monthly to the Board of Regents
meeting and to the various committees of the Board of Regents. As Chair and Vice Chair of the Faculty
Council I have served on several committees and subcommittees of the Board of Regents and confer with
Regent Members on a regular basis. During my term Faculty Council passed new Bylaws for the Faculty
Senate, and policies including Intellectual Property, Faculty Grievances, Insurance and Benefits for
Domestic Partners, Sexual Harassment, Dismissal for Cause, and Rolling Averages for Faculty Merit. We
also created an award program to recognize faculty service. My second term addressed a variety of issues
including Program Discontinuance, Retirement Options, Academic Bill of Rights, Dependant Tuition, and
Revision of the Uniform Grading Policy. In my third and fourth term we dealt with issues including
Rules for Severance for Dismissal for Cause, creation Faculty Communications Committee (FC3),
established an Equity and Salary Committee, Implementation of Tenure Policies for Librarians,
Presidential Review of Faculty Personnel Decisions, University-wide Faculty Personnel Review
Procedures, Tuition Benefits for Faculty and Staff, Attributes of a CU Undergraduates, Established a
Faculty Council planning retreat, Procedures for the Establishment of Centers, Institutes, Laboratories and
Bureaus, Procedures for Implementing Regent Actions on Distinguished Professorships, Faculty
Development and Mentoring, Restricted, Proprietary and Classified Research , Approval of Sabbatical
Assignments, Retention of University Records, Performance Ratings for Faculty, and Faculty Retirement
Agreements, and established and chaired an ad hoc committee on Salary and Equity Issues
Vice President of the Senate. University of Colorado, System (2002 - 2004, 2010 - 2012) The Chair of
the Faculty Council serves also serves as the Vice President of the Faculty Senate. (The University of
Colorado President serves as the President of the Senate.) The Vice President presides at semi-annual
meetings of the Senate. The Faculty Senate provides a forum for the President of the University to
addresses the faculty. It also receives semi-annual reports from the office of the Vice President of the
University and the Senate Privilege and Tenure committee. All changes in the operating procedures for
Privilege and Tenure in the CU System must be approved by the Senate and passed on to the President
and the Board of Regents.
Faculty Council Immediate Past Chair. University of Colorado, System (2012- 2014, 2004 – 2005)
The Past Chair of Faculty Council works in an advisory and training role to assist the new Council Chair.
The Past Chair continues to serve as an active voting member of both the Faculty Council and its
Executive Committee. In this role I have continued to serve in an advisory capacity with various Faculty
Council committees and to the office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
President’s Executive Committee. University of Colorado, System (2002 – 2004) The Chair of Faculty
Council works as a member of the University President’s Executive Committee to prepare presentations
and responses to the Board of Regents and their Committees. The chair reports monthly to the Executive
Team on the ongoing business of the Faculty Council.
Colorado Faculty Advisory Committee (CFAC). Member of committee and executive committee
(2006-Present). State committee chair (2006-2008). CFAC is the official advisory group of the Colorado

Commission of Higher Education (CCHE) representing faculty of all Colorado Research Universities,
State Colleges, and Community Colleges. As chair of this committee, I organize semi-annual meetings of
representatives of faculty governance for all Colorado universities and colleges. I also report on faculty
interests at monthly meetings of the CCHE.
Educational Policy and University Standards (EPUS) Chair. University of Colorado, System (1989-
93, 1997- Present, & chair 2006-2008) EPUS is a system-wide committee of the University of Colorado
that deals with all policy and standard issues. The system-wide EPUS committee deals with all changes
and proposed changes to policies and standards affecting all campuses in the CU system. This group
meets twice monthly to deal with policy issues and works in close coordination with the CU Faculty
Council, the office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the CU Board of Regents, and campus
EPUS committees.
College of Education (COE) Interim Dean. University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (2004 – 2005)
After serving briefly as the Acting Dean of Education I was selected as interim Dean of Education with
the strong support of the COE faculty as part of an internal search. I took on this role following the
unanticipated departure of the former dean. As the new dean, I took over in the midst of a fast
approaching accreditation visits from NCATE (January 2005), Colorado Department of Education
(November 2004), and the Colorado Commission of Higher Education (November 2004). Both
accreditation visits resulted in positive reviews. In the role of dean, I was responsible for oversight of
budgets, personnel decisions and procedures, accreditation, scheduling, curriculum, instruction,
assessment, student grievances, and general administration of the College. The College includes four
departments including Counseling and Human Services; Curriculum and Instruction; Leadership,
Research and Foundations; and Special Education. The College offers a wide variety of programs in
Teacher Licensure and Alternative Teacher Licensure, Special Education Licensure and, Counseling
Licensure. In addition the College houses programs in English as a Second Language, Reading,
Mathematics Education, and Science Education. The College is also responsible for a comprehensive
Extended Studies program for which I have recently hired a new director and overseen a significant
reorganization and streamlining with emphasis on increasing entrepreneurial endeavors. Major
accomplishments as Interim Dean include the development of an incentive program for the director of
extended studies which is has significantly increased program revenues, retirement of an extended studies
deficit created in the preceding years, established new student grievance procedures, establishment of new
procedures for faculty search committees, chairing a search committee to hire a Dean of Business, and
chairing a campus taskforce for providing training of Department Chairs and Associate Deans. This
position was defined such that the interim dean could not be an applicant for the permanent position.
Faculty Assembly President. University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Elected to two terms as
President of the UCCS Faculty Assembly (2000-2002). This included work with various aspects of
faculty governance at the campus and system level. During my term the Faculty Assembly passed several
policies and recommendations related to Salary Compression, Salary Equity, Opportunity Hires, and the
return of the Campus Benefits Office.
Deans Council. University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (2000-2002 & 2004-2005). As the interim
Dean and as the President of the Faculty Assembly I have served as a member of the Deans Council,
which deals with a wide variety of policies, procedures, and projects related to Academic Affairs.
Council of Deans. University of Colorado, System (2004 - 2005). As interim Dean I serve as a member
of the Council of Deans, which deals with a wide variety of policies, procedures, and projects related to
Academic Affairs of the multi-campus University System.

Science Education Program Coordinator. University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (1987–Present)
Created and direct four Science Education masters programs as part of the M.Ed. in Curriculum and
Instruction (C&I) and two new degrees under the interdepartmental degree program Masters of Sciences
(MSc). Program was recently updated to include a program in Space Studies in cooperation with the
Space Foundation.
Department Chair. University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (1998-2000). Helped to coordinate the
formation of a new department, Curriculum and Instruction – C&I) and was elected Acting Chair by my
peers. CTI was formerly known as the program areas of Curriculum and Instruction and Teacher
Education. Responsibilities included oversight of scheduling, budgets, personnel decisions, curriculum,
instruction and general administration of the department.
Program Area Coordinator. University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (1999-2002). Served as the
program area coordinator for Curriculum and Instruction- C&I. Responsibilities included oversight of
scheduling, budgets, personnel decisions, curriculum, instruction and general administration of the
program. The program includes the areas of the Alternative Licensure Program, General Curriculum,
Gifted & Talented, Reading Education, Educational Computing, and Science Education.
Educational Computing Program Coordinator. University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (2000-
2002). Served as the program area coordinator for Educational Computing. Responsibilities included
oversight of scheduling, budgets, personnel decisions, curriculum, instruction and general administration
of the program. As coordinator of this program, I revised the program requirements and refocused the
program to concentrate on serving local schools.
Acting Department Chair. Master of Basic Science Degree (UCCS) (1988-1989). Duties included
oversight of scheduling, development and interpretation of rules, curriculum coordination, and general
administration of the program. The program areas include graduate studies in mathematics, biology,
chemistry, exercise physiology, geography, environmental studies, anthropology, physics and science
teaching.
Editor. Served from 1995 until 1999 as the Editor of CESI Science. Position included managing several
section editors, managing advertising, layout, production, and coordination of journal referees.
Other Administrative experience. Served as director of the Colorado Alliance for Science of the Pikes
Peak Region (CASPPR). Served as Co-investigator for Colorado Springs CONNECT project. Served as
site director of the PAIRS Project (Principles for the Advancement of Integrated Reading and Science -
Project). Served as site director of the PALS Network (Principals for the Advancement of Science -
Network).
Professor. University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (1998-Present). Teach graduate and undergraduate
science education and teacher education courses; professional writing and research related to science
education and teacher education; college, campus and CU system leadership; seek funding for grants;
serve on numerous department, college, and university committees; serve on graduate student
committees; advise graduate students in science education, curriculum, and educational computing;
supervise pre-service teacher field experience and student teaching; conduct in-service with Colorado

Part Time Instructor. Colorado Women’s College (now part of the University of Denver) (1981).
Taught Elementary Science Methods, redesigned course to promote inquiry methodology and meet state
certification requirements.
Research Assistant. University of Colorado, Boulder (1980-1981). Performed various aspects of meta-
analysis research for the Science Meta-Analysis Project (SMAP) sponsored by the National Science
Foundation. Responsibilities included defining questions to be addressed, designing coding forms,
coding studies, analyzing data, and writing the project’s final report.
Teaching Assistant. University of Colorado, Boulder (1979, 1981). Taught elementary science methods
courses lecture and lab; redesigned course to follow a theoretical model. Supervised pre-service field
experience.
Student Teaching Supervisor. University of Colorado, Boulder (1980, 1982). Supervised elementary
school student teachers in the Boulder Valley Public Schools.
Research Associate. ESR Associates, Denver (1981). Designed coding forms for a NSF meta-analysis
of women in science, coded studies, instructed staff members in meta-analysis techniques.

Taught primarily science in a departmentalized elementary/middle school. Other duties included

LSU College of Education. Project MAFEX (Meta-Analysis of Field Experiences) was a research project
funded in November 1982 and completed in November 1983. It utilized meta-analysis techniques to
synthesize approximately 25 years of research related to field experiences in teacher education. The
effects and optimum duration of field experiences were assessed. (Served as principal investigator.)
