Maxwell Street Klezmer Band Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 3:00 PM The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band has been one of the Midwest's premiere Klezmer Bands for over twenty years. Klezmer music opens the door to a world rich with energy and emotion. The klezmorim of Eastern Europe (Jewish folk musicians who played for celebra- tions) drew upon both the lyrical, haunting melodies of cantors and the boisterous dances of the Russians, Rumanians, Poles, and other surrounding cultures to create a unique and evocative style of their own. Maxwell Street has been central to the revival of traditional Jewish music in the Midwest. It is one of the true Klezmer "Big Bands," recalling the rich, jazzy sounds of the Swing Era. Smith & Adams Guitar and Cello Duo Sunday, March 18, 2012 3:00 PM From Bach to Beatles and Barn-burners to Ballads Passion is guaranteed when world renowned fingerstyle guitarist Richard Smith and cellist Julie Adams join forces. Can you imagine a full orchestra playing in your living room? Or two lovers flirting in a symphony hall? It's a little bit of both that you get from world renowned fingerstyle guitarist Richard Smith and his wife, versatile cellist Julie Adams – and they serve so much more. The combination of Richard’s fretboard fireworks and Julie’s warm tone and lyrical style will melt your heartstrings, have your toes tapping and your jaws hanging open. Their ever growing repertoire comprises a wide variety of music from classical Bach to Beatles pop. The Legacy of Floyd Cramer featuring his Grandson Jason Coleman Sunday, April 29, 2012 3:00 PM In an exciting and nostalgic concert experience, Jason plays the songs for which his Grandad was most famous, including beloved hits like Last Date, Crazy, On the Rebound , and San Antonio Rose, as well as country, pop, and easy listening standards that have captivated the hearts of audiences for decades. At an early age, he began to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, piano legend Floyd Cramer, making several appearances with Floyd on television and at live shows as a child. Over time, his playing style has progressed and matured into an uncanny reflection of the signature stylings of his Grandad. Name(s): Include names of children Mark Valenti Classical pianist Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011 3:00 PM Mark offers an eclectic group of classical piano pieces chosen for a diverse audience. The music he performs serves as an excellent overview of the evolution of piano styles from the elegant gracefulness of Classicism to the passionate lyricism of Romanticism through the atmospheric Impressionism of Debussy to the rhythmic percussive- ness of Modernism. Mark Valenti received his Master of Music from Northwestern University, Bachelor of Music from the Philadelphia Musical Academy and has studied with such notable teachers as Benjamin Whitten, Zoltan Kocsis and Mary Sauer. In addition to giving solo recitals in cities throughout the U.S. and Europe, Mr. Valenti has performed for former First Lady Barbara Bush in Washington, D.C.
