Complex adaptive systems

are special cases of complex systems. They are complex in that they are dynamic networks of interactions and relationships not aggregations of static entities. They are adaptive in that their individual and collective behaviour changes as a result of experience

MA evaluation of website

Are people using it and if so why?

Janet Hutchinson 2010

The following questions have also been raised and could be further investigated.

• How can links between CEIAG theory and practice be improved?

• What is meant by professional development?

Recommendations from my Research

1. To introduce a national kite mark across all CEIAG quality awards

2. To develop participation in CEIAG quality awards for Work-Based Learning Providers

3. To provide synergy of CEIAG quality award provision with the system for the National Careers Service

What makes this innovative?• It will be national

• It will provide a high standard benchmark and allows for local flexibility

• It will ensure consistency

• The government will encourage it

Page 24: Mark Wilkinson mwilkinson@cfbt John Ambrose john.ambrose@lincolnshire.uk

How does it address 21st century learning needs?

A good CEIAG programme will:• Raises awareness of the labour market – local,

national and international• Promote equality of opportunity and

challenge stereotypes• Prepare students to manage transitions – 10

14 jobs by 38 – no such things as a career for life

• Equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to apply, enter and progress in employment

Page 25: Mark Wilkinson mwilkinson@cfbt John Ambrose john.ambrose@lincolnshire.uk

School Improvement Service in Partnership with

Do you have any evidence of impact?

• No national evidence as yet• Local NEET figures are significantly better

for schools holding a CEIAG quality award, compared to those who don’t

• “There is clear systematic evidence that school pupils with career goals have higher attainment levels than those without”

Exec summary 2004 report, Career goals and educational Attainment Careers Scotland.

Page 26: Mark Wilkinson mwilkinson@cfbt John Ambrose john.ambrose@lincolnshire.uk

School Improvement Service in Partnership with

How transferable is this to other settings?

• Completely – it can be adapted to meet the needs of CEIAG within a province or nationally

Page 27: Mark Wilkinson mwilkinson@cfbt John Ambrose john.ambrose@lincolnshire.uk

Career Mark• CEIAG quality award used throughout
