YOUTH 2015

The national United Methodist Youth Gathering

June 24-28, 2015 in Orlando, FL

Registration is $420 (early bird rate) and launches November 24, 2014

Registration includes 4 nights lodging, 3 dinners & all programming

YOUTH 2015 is the national event for United Methodist Youth and their leaders. It is where people experience the breadth and

depth of the United Methodist Church, are sharpened by one another, and equipped to experience and express their faith in new

and vibrant ways. What does it mean to ‘Go On’? The Wesleyan Movement began because of the foundational idea that faith

produces inward and outward holiness. In other words, the faith you have calls you to put it into action. When you go on to take

action because of your faith, it is one way to show God that you do love your neighbor. Learning about God, Jesus, the church, etc.

are all good things – but when you go on to serve others because of what you’ve learned – that’s when you become a disciple who

can change the world.

YOUTH 2015 is about experiencing and participating. YOUTH 2015 is both interactive and participatory – everything at the event

invites people to experience a taste of discipleship by showing and practicing the acts of piety and mercy on site. By practicing at

YOUTH 2015, youth and their leaders can go on to keep doing acts of piety and mercy back in their home churches and

communities.

The acts of piety and mercy are both individual and communal, both private and public. The acts of piety and mercy do not have

to take place in any particular order, they are experienced differently by everyone as a means of going on to perfection and

Christian maturity. After the event is finished, participants should go on to their home churches full of passion and ideas to live out

their faith in new ways at home.

YOUTH 2015 provides a foundation for discipleship rooted in the Wesleyan tradition. This is an opportunity for youth to

understand the roots of our Wesleyan faith and the things that make it special and unique.

Young Adult Mission Opportunities: Generation Transformation applications are now available for 2015 for young adults aged 18-

30. The program is an initiative of the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries. Read more

MISSION NEWS……………………….

Mission Agency Moving to Atlanta: The UMC Board of Global Ministries will leave its longtime headquarters on Riverside

Drive in New York City and move to Atlanta, GA within two years. In an effort to be more global, the agency also will open

three new regional offices -- in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Read more.

Encounter Mission in Sincelejo, Colombia: MARCH 6-15, 2015

The Conference Encounter with Christ in Latin America and the Caribbean Committee has endorsed its next

mission project to Colombia in March of 2015. We intend to continue the construction of the Children’s Ministry Facility

for the Methodist Church of Sincelejo. We hope that persons with a mission vision and a compassion for those in need will

consider volunteering for the team and/or sponsoring financial support.

As always, the mission is being organized under the guidelines of UMVIM, with all insurance and safety standards

in place. Dr. David Stains will serve as team leader, drawing upon years of mission experience and previous service in

Colombia. The team will be working with leadership of the Colombia Methodist Church, with the direct participation of its

Project Coordinators.

The church of Sincelejo has been very important to the Colombian Conference. Sinselejo lies on the fringes of

some of the worst activities of the (now largely pacified) drug cartels. Evi-dence of the suffering of those activities still

linger, in the damage done to families, and especially, children. Several years ago, the UMVIM office for the Northeast

Jurisdiction accepted the project of construction of the children’s center, but funding and progress have been slow. All of

the member conferences of the Northeast Ju8risdiction were to participate, but to date, only The W PA Conference and

Western NY have given any service. A church and community of children await the attention of those who will support and

serve.

As Bishop Cardena has expressed it, ”The Church through its National Project has been trying for ten years to help

the small ones of God’s Kingdom….In Colombian context those would be orphans, widows, women, children and men who

had been displaced because of the violence and corruption in our country. We are inviting you to join us as volunteers and

to work with us in this beautiful and hard labor. To put your time in this job and bring Love, maybe peace, and for sure

Hope to those ones who have none.”

Anyone who

, 160 Rolling [email protected], email -627-would like to know more may contact Dr. David Stains, 724

Meadows Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370. Offerings in support of this project may be sent to the Conference Treasurer’s

office using the Advance Special # SS005100.

responsible for some of the costs of shipping kits to Saeger Brown or other distribution points. Local churches and groups might

consider undesignated gifts toward "any kits" or Eastbrook Mission Barn expenses - getting them where they are needed is part of the

ministry!

Giving Tuesday - December 2, 2014 encourages gifts and offers matching funds for UMCOR programs and projects. Many

resources are available. You can use these materials to help UMCOR surpass the incredible total raised for programs in

UMCOR’s Top Five Ways to Give: As storms continue to plummet the Midwest, the United Methodist Committee on Relief is grateful for the support of church members for disaster response. They’ve created a new downloadable resource to use in bulletins or newsletter entitled UMCOR’s Top Five Ways to Give.

UMCOR Disaster Response Video: It has been an already busy year in the way of natural disasters. Now that hurricane season has

officially begun, the need for funding to allow UMCOR to respond to these disasters is especially crucial. Greg Forrester, UMCOR’s

Assistant General Secretary for Disaster Response, shares the need for continued support to make it possible for UMCOR to respond

to natural disasters. Watch or download video

RELIEF-SUPPLY KITS NEEDED: You can donate to any UMCOR relief project by placing a contribution in the offering plate at your local
