Message from our Principal Dear parents/carers

Term 2 has indeed been a very eventful term. Through the mid yearly reports and parent -teacher interviews, we hope that parents and carers have been provided with a clear understanding of their child/children's academic and social growth.

A brief summary of major events that happened this term:

We had our school photos, Athletics Carnival, Stage 2 Excursion, New Arrivals Program excursion, Inter school debating, Public Speaking, MultiLit Graduation, Super Blue Day, and Red Day. All this happened amidst our regular teaching and learning programs. A big thankyou to all the teachers for organising theses various events and ensuring that everything runs well. Without our teachers contribution towards extra curricular activities, these programs cannot happen at our school. A big thank you to all those parents who have continue to attend the Marsden Road PS Community Group and especially to those parents who volunteered during the Athletics Carnival. There was an information booth on 8th of June and many parents visited the booth. Through the coming months there will be more information provided to the community. There will information booth set up in the local community as well and parents and community members will have the opportunity to ask questions or gain more information.

In term 3, there will be some new teachers who will be start at our school. Miss Lisa Murphy will be the new kindergarten teacher and Miss Brigette Glover will be working as Learning and Support teacher. Mrs Dianne Toms has already started at our school this term as EAL/D teacher.

Finally, I would like to thank Miss Amanda Amiet for doing a wonderful job as relieving deputy principal in the absence of Miss Wendy Atkinson. The last few weeks have been quite busy, not only with administrative work, but also with the organising of reports and interviews. Miss Amiet has passed with flying colours, demonstrating exceptional organisational skills. I am sure her class has missed her and will be very happy to have her back in term 3. AFTER SCHOOL SPORT

2017 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

On Wednesday the 14th of June we held our annual athletics carnival at Dwyer oval. This year we had the highest number of participants across our events, which is a fantastic feat.

It was great to see our students implementing the skills we have been developing in PDHPE les-sons. We were so impressed and proud of our students for their keen participa-tion, effort and resilience. It was fantastic to see so many supporters at the field cheering our students on. Thank you to our amazing community group for putting on our BBQ and canteen, our volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the day, we really appreciate your support of our school and our students. Thank you also to the sports committee and to all of our teachers and staff who went above and beyond to make the carnival a success. Stay tuned for the official results and ribbons, which will be announced and handed out at our next assembly.

Mr Clayton and Mrs Small

Thank you also to the wonderful parents who volunteered their time to assist with the sausage sizzle and canteen. It is greatly appreciated by all the staff.

We raised $828.00 from the canteen and sausage sizzle.

2017 ZONE CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS

PSSA is now completed for Term 2.

Thank you to everyone who participated and congratulations on your

effort and to our amazing wins we have accomplished.

Please note that PSSA will not return until Term 3 week 1.

Congratulations to the students who represented Marsden Road at the Liverpool zone cross country carnival on the 6th of June at Chipping Norton.

There was fierce competition in every event and our Marsden Road students put on an impressive display of athleticism, sportsmanship and behaviour.

A special mention to Kayla in 2C and Claire in 5T who progressed to represent Liverpool zone at the Sydney South West regional carnival. Kayla and Claire ran excellent races at the regional carnival; both improving their place within the zone team.

COPS AND TAGS 2017

Last Thursday, 12 seniors were chosen to participate in Cops and Tags. It was held at Brownes Farm Reserve in Hoxton Park. We versed other schools in OzTag and at the end Rimon from 6S was chosen to be our representative to play a game against the Cops. We all had a great day and enjoyed the free sausage sizzle.

We would like to thank Miss Supwichien for supervising us and especially a big thank you to the Cops from Liverpool for organising a fun day.

NEWS FROM 1N

Dr Seuss is on the loose in 1 Nara!

1 Nara has had a “SeussPer” and “Seusstastic” time during our author

study this term. We have been learning all about Dr Seuss and have been

reading lots of his stories in class. We are all true believers in his saying:

“The more that you read, the more things you’ll know. The more that you

learn, the more places you’ll go!”

SCHOOL TRAFFIC ZONE

Once again we would like to draw you attention to the environment that

Marsden Road P.S shares with our neighbours.

We understand that parking is limited around the school however, can you please

be mindful when you are dropping off and collecting your children that you are

not parking in or across any residents driveways.

Please be advised that parking rangers do conduct regular patrols and offenders

will be fined.

Now anyone can help local schools earn amazing equipment. Just shop at Woolworths to earn one sticker for every $10 spent from 26 July till 19 September, while stocks last. Once you have completed a sticker sheet please return this to the school and then you can start on your next sheet! Incredibly, last time over 16,000 schools and early

learning centres participated in Earn & Learn, and

earned nearly 450,000 pieces of individual items.

This is your chance to help!

How Does Snow Form?

Snowflakes are made of ice crystals. Firstly, snow-flakes form in clouds where the temperature is freezing. Next, the ice crystals form around tiny bits of dirt that carry up into the sky by the wind. After that, the snow crystals grow. Finally, they become heavy and fall to the ground.

1Sapporo are learning to be mighty writers!

This term in Writing, 1 Sapporo have been working on writing explanations. We have been working using time connectives and expanding our vocabulary by adding new words to our ‘suitcase’. Here is an explanation that we wrote together about how snow forms during the winter.
