What is PBIS?• PBIS is a research based approach or framework used to create a positive and nurturing school wide environment that improves learning outcomes for all students.

• It is strongly promoted by the USDE and the MDE.

• It is in fact the only resource listed in the federal legislation on education from 1997 known as IDEA.

Each year, the number of schools applying for team training continues to increase. And for good reason — the data tells a story of reductions in behavioral problems and suspensions leaving more time for learning”

2011-12 – Collected data using hard copy referral forms and Swiss (labor intensive), provided data to staff 2012-13 – Staff identified top behavior referral as tardy, prepared tardy procedure (SLT), transferred from Swiss to Campus/Tableau 2013-14 – TAUGHT tardy procedure, interventions including tardy course, weekly reporting of tardy data, data clarification 2014-15 – Data discussed at team meetings, staff identified classroom disruption/disrespect as top behavior referral, intervention created (behavior reflection) Available data: Time, location, event, student, teacher, grade levels, resolution type

PBIS INTERVENTION STRATEGY

Behavior Reflection Sheet

Proposed Process:

Teacher either sends student with sheet in the hall or to the office to complete. 

If a student doesn't complete it, it will become insubordination and further consequences will be given by

administration. 

Student completes the Behavior Referral Form, returns it the referring teacher for signature, then brings it to their Advisory Teacher. 

Advisory teachers keep form and determine if parent needs to be contacted

Marshall Middle School PBISAll MMS students are PBIS students, but there are two ways they can become an active part of the program.

Students from all grade levels have the opportunity to volunteer to help with celebrations.

8th grade students who are not assigned to academic enrichments have the opportunity to attend PBIS Enrichment Class.
