    Breast Cancer Awareness

    Month at Marshall’s ATA

    For Women: Breast cancer is

the leading cancer in the U.S.

    Lung cancer is the second

most common form of cancer &

colorect al cancer is t hird

    among Caucasian women. The

    number 2 & 3 cancers are re-

v ers ed am ong B l ack a nd

    Asian/Pacific Island women.

For all women, the fourth lead-

ing cancer is cancer of the

uterus. Our world is about to

turn Pink. I mean - PINK. Breast

    Cancer Awareness Pink. Susan

    G. Komen, the American Can-

    cer Society and the National

    Breast Cancer Foundation are

all going to help make the

    world Pink starting this Sun-

    day, Oct 1st. Pink ribbons,

    Pink toilet paper, Pink Camp-

    bell’s soup cans, Pink gloves

    on the Delta Airlines ground

    crews in every airport in

    America. It’s mass marketing

    and crass commercialism for

a very good cause. It ’s

    Breast Cancer Awareness

    month and the forces behind

    turning the world pink are

    hoping that the more pink

you see t he m ore aware

    you’ll be about the greatest

    single health danger facing

    w o m e n i n t h e w o r l d —

    CANCER. We all have wom-

en in our lives that we want to

    be healthy and happy and

    unfortunately som e of us

    have lost someone to cancer.

In my case, I lost my mother

    to cancer. While most women

    are already aware of Breast

    Cancer, many forget to take

the steps to have a plan to

detect the disease in its early

    stages and encourage others

to do the same. Every person

    should know the symptoms and

signs of breast cancer, and any

    time an abnormality is discov-

    ered, it should be investigated

    by a healthcare professional.

For our students who are partic-

    ipating in our Annual National

    B re ast C an ce r A w ar en e ss

    Month “Think Pink Campaign” I

would like to say a sincere

“Thank You.” If you will be par-

    ticipating, you may purchase

and wear a Pink Marshall’s ATA

    T-shirt for $20.00, Pink Double

Wrap Belt for $15.00, etc. or just

make a donation of a minimum

    $10.00 to the American Cancer

Society. This is our second an-

    nual Breast Cancer Awareness

    Month effort at Marshall’s ATA.

We know what we’re doing only

amounts to a drop in the bucket

but we will do our part and add

our drop in the bucket along

    with many others this month.

Marshall’s ATA Will be Officially back to our Full Uniforms on

Monday Oct, 16th for the beginning of the New Training Cycle. Pink T-Shirts & uniform items for Breast Cancer Awareness

Month. Marshall’s ATA will be Closed on Saturday, Oct 28th as we prepare the school for our Annual Fall Harvest Festival & Cos-

tume Party from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

2017 - The Year of Impossible Possibilities

  • Protocol for Testing

    Students must be on a

    program in order to

    be eligible to test.

    Students must wear

    their traditional white

    uniform. Any student

    who is at the testing

    but not participating

    is still expected to be

    wearing their com-

    plete uniform. Lead-

    ership students are

    expected to assist in

    whatever capacity

    necessary.

    Every new level that you

    achieve will demand a new

    version of YOU. Enjoy the

    journey and dwell on your

mistakes only so long as it

may take to learn the lesson

    they can teach you.

    S o m e t i m e s pe o p le a r e

placed in your path only to

help you by pointing out and

    showing you your current

    inadequacies. People who

    don’t make mistakes don’t

    make much of anything. Mis-

    takes mean you are trying

    something new or taking a

    different approach and it

may not work out the first

time or the second time or

    even the third time. Keep

    thinking and working and

    eventually you will figure it

out, but you have to get start-

    ed.

    Ask the most successful per-

son you know not how they

    became so successful, but

    what mistakes they’ve made

    along the way. The could

write a book and make you

pay to learn their story or

they could share it with you

    because they believe you are

    sincerely intere sted and

    hindsight has given them a

    valuable perspective now

that they are over the initial

    embarrassment of failure at

    that time. People see their

    glory but they don’t know

    their story.

But re me mbe r th is; Yo u

    MUST make your own mis-

    takes because our characters

    are shaped by our experi-

ences and we are all a results

    of the choices WE make.

    Heed good advice but don’t

be so stunted by the experi-

ence of others that you don’t

    find your own answers your

own way. This will make it

    more meaningful to you if

    you discover that answers for

    y o u r s e l f . Wh e n yo u ’ r e

    young, you have the luxury

    of time to make mistakes

    and time to bounce back

    from the consequences of

    some bad choices or mis-

    judgments.

    You are guaranteed to get

    better than you are right

now if you would stop wor-

    rying about failure. YOU

    WILL FAIL! Failure is painful

and feels like a setback but

the more you do and the

more you try the more you

    will fail, but that’s life!

    Be discouraged and be dis-

    appointed but don’t be dis-

mayed. It will work if you

work it. See the lessons and

    learn from them. They are

an oppo rtun ity to start

    again after having gained

    valuable insights from the

    previous unsuccessful at-

    tempt. You are learning

    from the strictest and great-

    e s t o f a l l t e a c h -

    ers...EXPERIENCE!

If at first you don’t succeed,

    TRY and TRY again (then

    quit; there’s no sense in

being a fool about it!) Haha-

ha! No; I’m kidding! If the

    valuable time that you have

    spent trying to bring about

    a good outcome is truly

    considered to be worth the

    precious time of your life

(time that you will never get

    back) then make it count.

    Commit to the process. You

make have to back off for a

    little while, reevaluate and

    reassess. You may have to

start over and go back to

    the ‘drawing board.’ You

    may have to recover and

    regroup to grow stronger.

    You may have to repriori-

    tize, reorganize, reposition

    and make adjustments to

    your schedule. You may

have to call a meeting to

    talk about you new realiza-

    tions discovered in your

    research. Come what may;

you are guaranteed to get bet-

ter just by starting again, so

get out there and TRY! As long

as you believe in what you’re

doing and are willing to pay

the price then stay on task and

    committed! Re-Commitment!

The quality of a person's life is

    in direct proportion to their

    commitment to excellence,

    regardless of their chosen

    field of endeavor. - Vince

On Sep 30th, a few of the fin-

    est students at Marshall’s

    ATA attended the Metroplex

    Mayhem tournament at the

    Mesquite Convention Center

    in Mesquite, TX hosted by

    SMstr Jack Hornbuckle. These

    are their stories:

    Gage Gresik - Spirit Award

    Sarish Dinesh-Kumar - 2nd

    in Traditional Forms.

    Monica Ramon - Spirit Award

Claetyn Moore - 2nd in Com-

    bat Weapons Sparring.

Payten Clouse - 1st in Combat

    Weapons, 3rd in Sparring, 3rd

    in Creative Weapons. Payten

    took First place in Combat

    Sparring, with the final match

taking it 10-0. She is currently

ranked 4th in the World in

Weapons and 1st in the STATE

    of TX.

    Ayden Davila - Medal in

    Forms, Sparring, Weapons & Combat.

Dr. Charles Kurtz - 1st in Traditional Weapons & 1st in

    Combat Weapons.

Sandy Arcuri - 1st in Combat Weapons, 2nd in Forms,

3rd in Traditional Weapons, 2nd in Traditional Spar-

    ring.

We are so proud that these students accepted the

challenge and put themselves into the arena of com-

petition. I never push students to compete in tourna-

ments but I think the experience of tournament com-

    petition can be a very

    valuable training tool. In

    tournaments, a student

    either wins or they learn.

If a student does not win

or at least meet their own

    expectation, they can be

    thankful that their oppo-

    nent helped them by

    showing them in a safe

    environment and reveal-

ing an area or aspect of

    their training that needs

    their attention or in-

    creased focus. They also

    demonstrate that they can

    overcome nervousness &

    anxiety to perform their

    material for judges. They

    will not be overwhelmed

    in a crisis situation.
