Welcome to the fall edition of The Scope

It is a publication of the Division of Education for the residents fellows and other learners of the Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS)

As the Director of Education I have the opportunity to work with an outstanding team of administrators pro-gram directors faculty coordinators staff members but most importantly residents fellows and students I eagerly look forward to a promising future for all of our learners

I would especially like to welcome our new interns residents and fellows By now I hope you are finding your way around the medical campus meeting with your new medical teams I hope you are comfortable calling your senior team member or your faculty supervisor when you need a little assistance or you just need a little advice

2020 has certainly been a difficult year I suspect the remainder of 2020 and early 2021 will have its challenges as well We are all getting used to virtual meetings and conferences and they will likely continue for some time I would like to remind people to continue following proper precautions including masking and social dis-tancing so that we can all prevent the spread of COVID Working together we can face this challenge head on providing safe patient care as they deserve the best Just remember you are not doing this alone Your fellow residents fellows faculty and directors are there to help If you are having trouble adjusting to your new role or location please feel free to contact the Resident Well-Being Committee (RWBC) a confidential resource for our learners Again welcome to Marshfield mdash your next year of learning will be rewarding

MARSHFIELD ndash The 2020-21 school year has begun and students are back in classrooms virtually andor in-person The COVID-19 pandemic and potential for a surge in cases throughout Wiscon-sin in the coming months is a particular challenge for our staff who juggle responsibilities as a health care worker and a parent We are again seeking help from the public in providing child care for our employees children

When schools were shifted in March to virtual education we created a Child Care Needed and Child Care Provided data-base to connect our employees in need of child care with people in the community who are able to provide child care As a result we had more than 450 people offer their services which allowed our employees to prepare for and treat COVID patients

MARSHFIELD ndash Marshfield Clinic Health System completed its acquisition of Ascension St Clares Hospital in Weston on Aug 1 and is renaming the hospital Marshfield Medical Center-Weston

The transaction also includes the transfer of Ascension Wisconsins 50 percent interest in Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls Wisconsin and The Diagnostic amp Treatment Center in Weston (DTC) which offers a broad range of advanced diagnostic therapeutic and surgical services to meet the needs of area physicians and their patients Both will be transitioned into the Health System over the next couple of months including the renaming of Flambeau Hospital to Marshfield Medical Center-Park Falls

Marshfield Clinic Health System an integrated health system with one of the largest private medical group practices in Wisconsin and Ascension one of the leading non-profit and Catholic health systems in the US first announced a mem-orandum of understanding for the sale in October 2019 A definitive agreement was reached in February Terms of the sale are not being disclosed

Marshfield Clinic is a host site for the Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine (WARM) program In WARM students spend their last two and half years at Clinic centers in order to complete their training rotations

WARM is a collaborative effort of the University of Wisconsin School of Medi-

cine and Public Health (UWSMPH) and affiliated state campuses like Marshfield

Clinic Collaborators have made WARM a student-centered and innovative rural

medical education program much like the traditional MD program
