Background Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, and died on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was an American clergyman, activist, and a leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement.

I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

To follow The speech I Have A Dream brought colored people and whites together as one. There was no more conflict between them. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated by a sniper as he stood on the balcony of his hotel room in Memphis and died on April 4 th, 1968. 39 other men, women, and children were killed during this time, 34 of them were black.
