HOME
What does HOME mean to you?
We are looking for volunteers to join us on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 10AM – 5PM at the Ferguson
Library to assist with staffing tables to help continue creating pieces for this this amazing “Home” project that
will be displayed at the Stamford Government Center.
“Home-Making” Project -
On Saturday, March 12, 2016 the Ferguson Library will be hosting a creative, interactive and personal public art
“Home-Making” experience to highlight the universal pull that ‘home’ has on all of us, and raise awareness of our
community’s need to combat homelessness and provide affordable housing, right here in Stamford and across
Fairfield County.
When completed and assembled in the spring of 2016, the 8-foot x 8-foot x 8-foot walk-through “Home” will be
installed in the lobby of the Stamford Government Center for a month.
The “HOME” will be made from hundreds of corrugated cardboard ‘siding’ boards. We want people of all ages,
interests, backgrounds to come to the library on March12, 2016 and add their personal words and illustrations by
creating a board, as the project builds and moves through several Stamford “Home-Making” sites to completion.
The art project, facilitated and led by CT artists Susan Fishman of West Hartford and Elena Kalman of Stamford, is
being done in collaboration with New Neighborhoods, Inc. and the Shelter for the Homeless.

Dryers: Clothes dryers are one of the largest energy users in our homes and represent 2 percent of our nation's
entire electricity consumption. While major appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and even clothes washers
have undergone significant energy efficiency improvements during the past 20 years, unfortunately the amount of
energy wasted by clothes dryers in the United States has received little attention. A typical
electric clothes dryer often consumes as much energy annually as a new refrigerator, clothes
washer and dishwasher combined. To help reduce your energy bill:
Clean the lint filter in the dryer after each us. Dry heavy and light fabrics separately and don't
add wet items to a load that's already partly dry. If available, use the moisture sensor setting
See the Light
Turn It Off: Don't forget to flick the switch when you leave a room. Remember this at the office, too. Turn out or dim
the lights in unused conference rooms, and when you step out for lunch. Work by daylight when possible. A typical
commercial building uses more energy for lighting than anything else.
Refrigerator/Freezer: Your refrigerator/freezer uses more electricity than any other appliance in your kitchen. These tips can help you use less and save more.
Avoid opening the refrigerator or freezer door to browse. Each time you do, cold air escapes and energy costs increase
Let hot foods cool before putting them in your refrigerator or freezer. Hot foods cause the motor to work longer and harder
Leave room in front of your refrigerator/freezer to allow cold air to circulate better
Because frozen food stays cold longer than air, it’s good to keep your freezer full, but not packed. You’ll save energy by placing water-filled containers in empty spaces
If cold air is escaping around the door seal, please contact the Management Office.
