2012 WV Wing Summer Encampment2012 WV Wing Summer Encampment I am very pleased to announce
the successful completion of
the 2012 WV Wing Cadet Sum-mer Encampment. The en-campment was, once again, held at Camp Dawson, the WV
National Guard Training Base,in Kingwood, WV. This year,109 cadets graduated from theencampment training course; 89
West Virginia Wing cadets, 8Ohio Wing cadets, 8 MarylandWing cadets, 2 PennsylvaniaWing cadets, and 2 Virginia
Wing cadets. This was thelargest cadet encampment forthe WV Wing in over 20 years.
Despite extremely hot tempera-tures at the beginning of theencampment week, there wereno injuries or illnesses during
the week and no one wenthome due to home sick-
ness!Unfortunately, due to bad
weather the last day of the en-campment, as well as some

major construction at the base, the usual Pass and Review Pa-
rade had to be cancelled but itwas a standing room onlycrowd that witnessed the cadetsreceiving their Certificates of
Completion. It was a greatencampment with a great staff!
During the week, the cadets
experienced a taste of militarylife by flying in a C-130 cargoaircraft, as well as a Blackhawkhelicopter. They rappelled
down an 80 foot rappel tower, were challenged by the Leader-ship Reaction Course, shotrifles on the firing range,
launched model rockets thatthey had built, and learnedabout Land and Water Surviv-al. These were only some of
the exciting activities that thecadets enjoyed, plus they madegood use of the base pool.
During the graduation ceremo-nies, numerousawardswere
presented to some of the out-
standing cadets of the encamp-ment. Those awards included:
Outstanding Cadet NCO
C/CMSgt Chloe Powers
Distinguished Graduate:
C/SSgt Toni May
Both the cadet and senior staff
did an outstanding job of run-ning the encampment thisyear. My thanks and apprecia-tion for all their hard work and
efforts in order to make thissuch a successful encampment.
