Picture Day Picture Day is Friday, March 28th. This Spring Excel Photographers will be offering something new for our families. Each child will have multiple pictures with several poses. Proofs will be sent home and parents are able to go to excelphotographers.com and pick the pose and order pictures.

Oral Language Fair Deterding is holding its 1st Annual Oral

Language Fair. This oral language competition is for all students at Deterding. All student performances will address the theme “The Colors of My World”. Students may compete as an Individual-performing a famous work of poetry/prose by one person or as a Choral Speaking/Verse Choir-performing a famous work by 3 or more students.

This is a great opportunity for students, school staff, parents, and community members to see excellence in our school. The Oral Language Fair also ties in with many of the Common Core Standards in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. It gives students the opportunity to relate to text in a more in-depth way.

The fair begins in the classroom with students choosing a poem to memorize and perform in their classroom. Students should practice at home and prepare to present in their classroom. Classroom teachers will be setting a presentation date for their classroom.

Teachers will be the judges in their classroom using a rubric to give students a final score. The top-ranking student from each class will perform in the evening showcase held Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Preschool & Kindergarten Kickoff/Health

This year, DREAM (Deterding Resources for Education, Arts and Music) will be hosting our inaugural DREAM Run. DREAM supports growth and learning opportunities for our children by providing vital assistance that wonderfully supplements what the District provides and in many cases restores what it can no longer provide, including art, music, band, dance, assemblies, classroom supplies, field-trips, Red Ribbon Week, reading programs, family nights, and numerous other arts and educational enrichment programs for students and teachers.

Our commitment to Deterding is unwavering, but we need YOUR financial support. HOW? The most direct, efficient way possible:

A 100% investment that goes 100% to our school!

We are holding our DREAM Run to help raise the funds needed to support the quality of our children’s education as well as provide fun physical fitness and motivation for our students.

Our goal this year is to continue to fund all activities, projects, and field trips as we have in the past, and if we reach our target of $15,000 in donations, purchase additional technology and substantially upgrade access at Deterding. Now more than ever, our students additional resources to meaningfully use the growing online education and enrichment programs and better prepare for the adoption of the nationwide common core standards and testing in California.

While this is an ambitious goal, remember this is one of our MAIN fundraisers for the year and we are not asking you to sell anything! Our community can do it! Every dollar counts!!!

The DREAM Run will be held on Thursday, April 10th at Deterding Elementary School during school hours.Directions for Getting Sponsors:«Students are to ask parents, friends, neighbors, relatives, parents’ co-workers, etc. if they

would like to sponsor them for an amount per lap and/or a flat donation.« Please no door-to-door solicitations. Parents, for the safety of your children, no pledge

gathering without an adult.« Pledge sheets are to be turned in to your teacher no later than April 10th. They will be returned

with your lap total on the day of the DREAM Run for collection of per lap donations.
