¡HOSANNA!

“¡Viva el Hijo de David! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor! ¡Hosanna en el cielo!” (Mateo 21:9). Con estas pala-bras la Iglesia entra en la semana más san-ta cuando conmemora la Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección de Cristo. Cuando el pueblo de Jerusalén gritó sus “hosannas”, estaba usando un an guo grito de aclamación hebreo que significa “sálvanos ahora”. El rey a quien se lo gritaban los salvaría, pe-ro de una manera que sobrepasó sus ex-pecta vas. La salvación vendría del made-ro de la cruz del cual colgaba Jesús para traer liberación del pecado y vida por me-dio de la muerte, abriendo las puertas del cielo para todos los que ponen su fe y confianza en él.

HOSANNA!

“Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the

Lord; hosanna in the highest” (Matthew 21:9). With these words the Church enters the holiest of weeks, commemorating the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. When the people of Jerusalem cried out with their “hosannas,” they were using an an-cient Hebrew shout of acclamation that meant “Pray, save us.” The king to whom they were shouting eventually would save them, but in a way that would be far from what they expected. Salvation would come from the wood of the cross as Jesus hung there to bring freedom from sin and life through death, opening the gates of heaven for all who put their faith and trust in him.

Winter Cold and Flu Season

You are reminded to use common sense in your participa-tion at Mass and the reception of Holy Communion during the annual cold and flu season. If you are feeling ill or think you may have been exposed to a virus, you should refrain from offering your hand to others at the sign of peace or during the recitation of the Lord’s prayer. A smile and a

heartfelt, "Peace be with you," should suffice. During the recitation of the Lord’s prayer you are invited to assume the

orans position. That is the raising of the hands and eyes toward heaven as a gesture acknowledging our sole reli-

ance on God. Likewise, if you are not comfortable or receiv-ing Holy Communion on the tongue or from the communal chalice for fear of infection, you should feel no pressure to do so. We understand that some will refrain from participa-tion in the liturgy or the sign of peace and the communal

ción en la misa, así como en la recepción de la Sagrada Comunión durante la temporada anual de frío e influenza. Si se sienten mal o piensan que pueden haber estado expuestos a un virus, deben abstenerse de ofrecer su

mano a los demás durante la señal de la paz o durante el Padre Nuestro. Una sonrisa y un

sincero, "La paz sea con ustedes", es sufi-ciente. Durante el Padre Nuestro, se nos in-vita a asumir la posición orante. Dicha posi-ción, es en la que se elevan las manos y los ojos hacia el cielo como un gesto de que re-conocemos que nuestra confianza esta pues-ta en Dios. Del mismo modo, si usted no es-tá cómodo de recibir la Sagrada Comunión en la lengua o de participar del cáliz comu-

nal por miedo a obtener alguna infección, no debe sentir presión alguna para hacerlo. En-tendemos que algunos se abstendrán de par-ticipar en la liturgia o de la señal de la paz y del cáliz comunal debido a tener preocupa-ción por nuestro bienestar y no por falta de

In this time of need, Archbishop Gomez invites the faithful to seek together the

maternal intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of

the Americas. We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son,

as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world,

and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels,

that we may be spared the worst of this illness. For those already afflicted,

we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance.

Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful,

wipe away their tears and help them to trust.

In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another

and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land

and to our hearts.

We come to you with confi-dence,

knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother,

health of the sick and cause of our joy.

Shelter us under the man-tle of your protection,

keep us in the embrace of your arms,
