A Jewish rabbi and a Catholic priest met at the town’s annual carnival. They had been friends for a long time and launched into their usual banter. “This baked ham is so delicious!” the priest teased. "You really ought to try it. I know it’s against your religion, but I can’t understand why such a wonderful food should be forbidden. You don’t know what you’re missing! Tell me, friend, when are you going to give in and try it?” The rabbi looked at the priest and responded, “At your wedding, of course!”

== Fr. Kerry’s Korner ==
The Parish Pastoral Council is an advisor group of
men and women elected and appointed to help the
Pastor and move the mission of the parish forward. It
is a working council that meets most months and we
have several individuals who have served their 2
consecutive terms (and more) and will be leaving the
Council. Earlier this Fall, Joe Martin asked to
resign, having done fine work on the council for
several years, especially in the area of buildings and
maintenance. Thank you Joe! I have appointed Jim
Quintus to fill his remaining two-year term. Dave
Van Cleave, Jill Leberknight, and Brenda Wills have all served well on our council and will continue
to be active in our parish. Thank you Dave, Jill and
Brenda!! All of the above will be able to serve the
Council again after being off for one year!
Our recent election showed that the parish has
great confidence in ALL of the men and women who
offered their name for election, each having polled
very well. I am pleased to announce the new
members of our Parish Pastoral Council for a three
year term: Ralph Dupres, Holly Bossen and Fred

Update from Fr. Godfrey Muwanga (from an email he sent to Fr. Mulloy):
I hope it is still warm there too as it is here in Uganda. We have been finally assigned though we have not met the Bishop in person yet. Fr. John has been assigned to assist as a chaplain at a convent high school. And I have been asked to found a new parish that of now has no Rectory nor parish church I will be staying in a nearby parish thirty miles away till I am able to build at least a hut or a tent to live in. This new parish is the furthest away from the cathedral, about 3 hrs away. It is a challenging apostolate, but I know that is where the Lord has sent me to do his work to prepare the way for His people. The luxury of St. Joseph's Parish is now history. I beseech your prayers and those of my priest friends there. We shall talk more about it and keep you informed. As of now I am still at my mother's house. I will be moving at the end of November. Convey my greetings to the Bishop and all my friends. I miss the orderliness of the way things are done in Rapid City Diocese. ~Godfrey

“Diocesan Masses for Life” Matching Grant The ongoing Masses and prayers for all life challenges are critical to keeping the culture of life strong in South Dakota and throughout the nation. Once again, the Diocesan Social Justice Commission will match monetary donations made for the “Diocesan Masses for Life” project, up to a total of $250. The Masses are coordinated by the Blessed Sacrament Parish Pro-Life Committee, but are offered daily at parishes throughout the diocese. This is the 11th year the diocese has matched funds for these Masses for the protection of all life. Prizes Wanted to help veterans fight PTSD The Sgt. Colton Derr Foundation and Knights of Columbus Council 8025 are soliciting prizes for two events that raise money for treating veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Sounds of the Season at Holy Cross Chapel Join us during December for different musical experiences: Sunday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m., the Rapid City Stevens High School Chamber Orchestra will perform selections from Handel’s Messiah. National Pastoral Musicians NPM will hold its winter meeting
on Saturday, Jan. 27, at St. Isaac Jogues Church, Rapid City. Registration and refreshments begin at 9:30 a.m. Maria Munoz and Toni Wilkins will speak on the following topic: “Successful Approaches to Music Ministry in a Bi-lingual and Multi-cultural Environment.” Then, a review of the newly revised national NPM website will be held. Many new features are available. During the business meeting, members will vote on bi-lingual songs. Based on the results, NPM will encourage all parishes in the diocese to use the top four/five in their liturgies. In the afternoon, Amber Larson, music director, from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, will present “Worship Aides.” This will include information on compiling, formatting, and publishing orders of worship along with information on obtaining copyright. Christmas Program will take place on Wednesday December 20. To make this a truly enjoyable event for the inmates, we ask you to consider donations
of puzzles (especially those with a Christian theme), Christmas cards, and paperback books (themes: action, Westerns, historical). Donation boxes are available at the HFNL Display Shelves in the Cathedral, Blessed Sacrament, and St. Therese. We remind you that inmate prayer requests are collected in
binders which are also available for your reflection at our Display Shelves. Perhaps you can add the inmates’ prayers to your daily devotions as we

REFUEL 2018 For all who serve the Church in religious education,
youth ministry, evangelization or catechesis of any kind, join us January 19-20 at Terra Sancta Retreat Center for Refuel 2018: SHARING THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL. Our speaker is Dr. Bob Rice, internationally known speaker, acclaimed musician, inspirational teacher, and innovative writer. He is an associate professor of Catechetics and the director of the Masters of Arts in Catechetics and Evangelization at Franciscan University of Steubenville. We’ll begin with Mass & dinner at 5:30pm on Friday evening, and end at 4:00pm on Saturday. Cost is $65, with an Advent Special – Early Bird rate of $55 if you register before December 24.
