LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parishioners, As the year comes to a close, we get bombarded by just about every nonprofit cause asking for a year end donation to take advantage of charitable gift tax savings. And most of us have a few favorites that we help each year. In the middle of it at the end of November was also “Giving Tuesday.” This year I am asking that you also consider your parish, St. Jerome, as a recipient of your special giving. Where you place your donation is up to you. It can be our new Parish Activity Center, just completed this year. The beautiful new Giving Tree similar to the one in the Church is being ordered so donors are acknowledged in the PAC lobby for all to see. This also lessens the amount of interest we have to pay on the remaining loan. Or it can be to our ordinary church offertory to help replace those who have died recently or moved away. It can be for our School Endowment Fund where invested proceeds can continue helping our school. Or perhaps religious education, ECC, or youth ministry. In these very difficult times, your generosity can be a big help here at your parish of St. Jerome. May God bless you. Fr. Dan P.S. I am now 5 weeks after knee replacement surgery. The wound is completely healed on the exterior, and I’m working hard with therapy to stretch the joint so that scar tissue will not impede its motion… and things seem more or less normal for the course. I’m still hoping to go deer hunting next week with priest friends before Christmas.


CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO Queridos Feligreses, Como el año llega a su fin, seremos bombardeados por cualquier causa sin fines de lucro pidiendo una donación de fin de año para tomar ventaja del ahorro de impuestos de regalo caritativo. Y la mayoría de nosotros tenemos nuestros favoritos que ayudamos cada año. En medio de ello a finales de noviembre era también "Martes día de dar." Este año le pido que considere también su parroquia, San Jerónimo, como destinatario especial. Donde usted pone su donación depende de usted. Puede ser nuestro nuevo centro de actividad parroquial, que se acaba de terminar este año. El hermoso nuevo árbol de Donantes similar al de la iglesia, asido ordenado para que los donantes sean reconocidos en el vestíbulo del Nuevo centro de Actividades para que todos lo puedan ver. Esto también disminuye la cantidad de intereses que tenemos que pagar por el préstamo restante. O puede ser en nuestro ofertorio regular en la iglesia para ayuda por los que han muerto recientemente o se movieron de aquí. Puede ser para nuestro fondo de donación de la escuela donde pueden seguir invertido las ganancias y ayudar a nuestra escuela. O tal vez al Ministerio de educación, ECC o juvenil religioso. En estos tiempos muy difíciles, su generosidad puede ser de gran ayuda en la parroquia de San Jerónimo. Que Dios los bendiga. Padre Dan. P.S. Tercer domingo de Adviento: Que podamos tomarnos un tiempo para estar agradecidos con Dios, quien es el dador supremo de todos los dones. "No sean ansiosos, sino que en todo, mediante la oración y la petición, con acción de gracias, hagan conocer sus peticiones a Dios" (Filipenses 4:6) San Pablo nos recuerda que nuestro Dios es un Dios abundante, el máximo dador de dones. Él promete darnos todo lo que necesitamos. Cuando confiamos en que Dios nos va a cuidar, es más fácil compartir lo que se nos ha dado.

ADVENT PANELS - OVERALL SCRIPTURE INSPIRATION “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light! Upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone.” (Isaiah 9:1) Read at Christmas Midnight Mass.

The theme of the painted panels attempts to capture the Advent anticipation of the Lord’s coming, in graduation of color (dark to light) , simple shapes, and to express this mood of anticipation in a modern art form, to express the soulful longing of the ages in contemporary non-objective art and the belief that modern art can enhance the worship space. These panels were first exhibited in St. Jerome Parish in 1982, one panel per Sunday.

Week One, Panel One – into the gloomy unsaved matter (humanity) the inkling of light begins to dawn. The ancient Promise of a Savior begins to materialize! Stay awake! Your Salvation draweth neigh!

Week Two, Panel Two – The earth was in spiritual darkness but prophecies of Isaiah speak of great hope and promise. On the second panel the Light of Christ intensifies!

Week Three, Panel Three – Gaudete Sunday, The Joyful Sunday – Here an attempt is made to represent the poetic imagery of Isaiah 61:1-20, by an intense bust of joy! Key phrases bring: “…joy of my soul,” “the bridegroom adorned in diadem” , and “glad tidings to heal broken hearted.” The spirit of the Lord is upon us! Obliterating the darkness. (If one squints or “looks” in another way, one will perhaps see a “being of light” - this was a surprise of the creative process.

LOS PANELES DE ADVIENTO

INSPIRADOS EN LAS ESCRITURAS “El pueblo que caminaba en la noche divisó una luz grande; habitaban el oscuro país de la muerte, pero fueron iluminados.” (Isaías 9:1) Este texto Bíblico se lee en la Misa de Navidad de medianoche. El tema de los paneles pintados intenta capturar la emoción de Adviento, la espera en la venida del Señor. Las figuras simples y los colores, que son primero oscuros y luego se aclaran gradualmente, nos sirven para expresar nuestro estado de ánimo por medio del arte moderno; además de expresar el anhelo y el sentimiento de nuestros antepasados de una forma contemporánea. De esta manera, los paneles de Adviento nos traen la certidumbre que el arte moderno también puede ayudarnos a intensificar nuestra adoración a Nuestro Salvador. Estos paneles fueron exhibidos, uno cada domingo, por primera vez en San Jerónimo en 1982. Primera Semana - Primer Panel – A pesar de las adversas circunstancias y el desaliento de nuestros ancestros, un vislumbre de luz se empieza a filtrar. La antigua Promesa de un Salvador empieza a hacerse realidad. ¡Velen y manténganse alerta! ¡Su Salvación está muy cerca! Segunda Semana - Segundo Panel – La tierra estaba en una oscuridad espiritual pero las profecías de Isaías hablan de una gran fe y una promesa. ¡En el segundo panel la luz de Cristo se intensifica! Tercera Semana - Tercer Panel – El Domingo de Regocijo – En este tercer panel se hace el intento de representar las imágenes poéticas de Isaías 61:1-20 ¡con una intensa explosión de alegría! Las frases claves son: “alegría de mi vida” “el novio adornado con corona” y “buenas nuevas para sanar los corazones destrozados.” ¡El Espíritu de Dios está sobre nosotros destruyendo la oscuridad! Si miramos con atención, quizás podamos ver la luz, que fue una sorpresa al iniciar el milagro de la creación.
