Many parishes today have small congregations with limited musical resources,yet wish to enjoy satisfying music which encourages participation in the liturgy.The Mass of St Brigid was written for such congregations, and in one suchcongregation: St Brigid's Parish in the rural town of Feilding, New Zealand.

For parishioners, the settings in the Mass of St Brigid are easy to learn withmanageable vocal ranges and straight-forward rhythms. The melodies arememorable and balanced while the varied harmonies and key changes make theMass interesting, enjoyable and expressive. The Mass also forms a coherentwhole through the use of related key signatures and recurring melodic andharmonic motifs across the different settings.

To support musicians, simple yet effective piano accompaniments are providedas well as chord symbols and bass note indications. In addition, a brief suggestedpiano introduction for each segment is marked within the score.

"In song we put more of our whole self into our prayer. Artists who put music to the

prayers of the Mass give wings to those prayers. The music and the words linger in our

minds and hearts, and accompany us as we go out to 'love and serve the Lord.'

Ross Haigh's Mass of St. Brigid fits this description. His music combines the joy that

faith gives with the seriousness of addressing God. And there is a homeliness about it

that echoes the congregation with whom he worships. That gives it an authenticity that

would resonate with any other congregations who want to be 'at home' with their
