Message from Father HinterschiedIt has been wonderful to have public Masses for a full week now, first since around St. Patrick’s Day! May the Holy Spirit strengthen us, deepen our hope, and further enliven our charity for each other. Let us not forget our fellow parishioners who remain with us in prayer from their homes due to their age or health, who faithfully pray and make spiritual Communions, and we anticipate the day when they can safely return to St. Patrick as well.Thanks to our "COVID Crusaders," we plan to continue with our regular weekday and Sunday Mass schedule: daily Masses at 8:00 a.m., with Confessions at 6:30 p.m. Confessions will be heard in the Lounge of the Parish Hall rather than the confessional in the church for the time being. On Saturdays, Confessions will begin at 4:30 p.m., and on Sundays at 7:00 and 10:00 a.m.For our Sunday Mass schedule, we will resume the schedule we had before the pandemic, but unfortunately, we are still awaiting new speakers for audio feed into the hallway and lounge, so if there is a need for "overflow," you'll need to get creative, but the good weather helps if we need to assist from outside!Masses are at 5:00 p.m. (anticipated), 7:30 a.m., and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. If we find we have to add an additional Mass to the Sunday schedule, we will let you know via our Flocknote e-mails and texts, and our parish website.While we are not yet able to resume in-person meetings of parish organizations, we are able to resume parish devotions. We had First Friday Adoration (beginning at 4:30 p.m.) and weekly Thursday Holy Hour at 6:30 p.m.Also, while the holy water fonts have been emptied, there is holy water available for you to fill your own containers by visiting the parish office during business hours or it will be located outside the parish office doors before/after Sunday Masses.

– Rev. Fr. Michael Hinterschied, Pastor, St. Patrick Church

Masks – Masks are available in the usher closet. If you prefer to wear one, please bring one from home, thank you.

THE MOST HOLY TRINITY JUNE 7, 2020Pentecost Sunday May 31, 2020

Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions Feast Day: June 3

One of 22 Ugandan martyrs, Charles Lwanga is the patron of youth and Catholic action in most of tropical Africa. He protected his fellow pages, aged 13 to 30, from the homosexual demands of the Bagandan ruler, Mwanga, and encouraged and instructed them in the Catholic faith during their imprisonment for refusing the ruler’s demands. Charles first learned of Christ’s teachings from two retainers in the court of Chief Mawulugungu. While a catechumen, he entered the royal household as assistant to Joseph Mukaso, head of the court pages.

On the night of Mukaso’s martyrdom for encouraging the African youths to resist Mwanga, Charles requested and received baptism. Imprisoned with his friends, Charles’s courage and belief in God inspired them to remain chaste and faithful.

For his own unwillingness to submit to the immoral acts and his efforts to safeguard the faith of his friends, Charles was burned to death at Namugongo on June 3, 1886, by Mwanga’s order. When Pope Paul VI canonized these 22 martyrs on October 18, 1964, he also made reference to the Anglican pages martyred for the same reason.

Like Charles Lwanga, we are all teachers and witnesses to Christian living by the examples of our own lives. We are all called upon to spread the word of God, whether by word or deed. By remaining courageous and unshakable in our faith during times of great moral and physical temptation, we live as Christ lived.Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions. SequenceVeni, Sancte Spiritus

Come, Holy Spirit, come!And from your celestial home

Shed a ray of light divine!Come, Father of the poor!

Come, source of all our store!Come, within our bosoms shine.

You, of comforters the best;You, the soul’s most welcome guest;

Sweet refreshment here below;In our labor, rest most sweet;Grateful coolness in the heat;Solace in the midst of woe.

O most blessed Light divine,Shine within these hearts of yours,

And our inmost being fill!Where you are not, we have naught,Nothing good in deed or thought,

Nothing free from taint of ill.Heal our wounds, our strength renew;

On our dryness pour your dew;Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;Melt the frozen, warm the chill;Guide the steps that go astray.

On the faithful, who adoreAnd confess you, evermore

In your sevenfold gift descend;Give them virtue’s sure reward;Give them your salvation, Lord;Give them joys that never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

The joyous veneration given to the Mother of God by the contemporary Church, in light of reflection on the mystery of Christ and on his nature, cannot ignore the figure of a woman (cf. Gal 4:4), the Virgin Mary, who is both the Mother of Christ and Mother of the Church. Indeed, the Mother standing beneath the cross (cf. Jn 19:25), accepted her Son’s testament of love and welcomed all people in the person of the beloved disciple as sons and daughters to be reborn unto life eternal. She thus became the tender Mother of the Church which Christ begot on the cross handing on the Spirit. Christ, in turn, in the beloved disciple, chose all disciples as ministers of his love towards his Mother, entrusting her to them so that they might welcome her with filial affection.
