Although we mark this date with sadness, we can also be proud of a resolution adopted by our city of Pearl last October, in which our city became “a safe city for pre-born children.” The resolution passed by the city of Pearl recognizes the “humanity of the pre-born child” and “urges the citizens of Pearl to encourage the humane treatment of all human beings, including the pre-born child, as well as to promote and defend the dignity of all human life.” In contrast, around the same time, the city of Jackson has tried to lim- it the free speech of those people of faith who would try to pray and be wit- nesses in front of the abortion clinic in Jackson. As we pray that our words and our actions respect all human life from the moment of conception to the moment death, I want to share the words of the following prayer that I found on the website for the novena for Nine Days for Life, promoted by the US Bishops: EVERY LIFE IS WORTH LIVING: Heavenly Father, thank you for the precious gift of life. Help us to cherish and protect this gift, even in the midst of fear, pain, and suffering. Give us love for all people, especially the most vulnerable, and help us bear witness to the truth that every life is worth living. Grant us the humility to accept help when we are in need. Teach us to be merciful to all. Through our words and our actions, help us to encounter the outstretched hands of your mercy. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Second Time of Ordinary Time January 19, 2020

We have end our joyful Christmas season, having once again embrace the liturgical color of green in Ordinary Time. “Ordinary Time” does not mean that it is commonplace or mundane, but that it is the weeks of the year that are counted outside of the special liturgical seasons of Advent, Christ-mas, Lent, and Easter. In the midst of the winter month of January, we un-fortunately mark a date we are not proud of as Catholics: the anniversary of the Roe vs Wade Supreme Court decision on January 22, 1973 that legalized abortion in this country. The Catholic Church has declared this day a day of prayer and penance. Although we mark this date with sadness, we can also be proud of a resolution adopted by our city of Pearl last October, in which our city became “a safe city for pre-born children.” The resolution passed by the city of Pearl recognizes the “humanity of the pre-born child” and “urges the citizens of Pearl to encourage the humane treatment of all human beings, including the pre-born child, as well as to promote and defend the dignity of all human life.” In contrast, around the same time, the city of Jackson has tried to lim-it the free speech of those people of faith who would try to pray and be wit-nesses in front of the abortion clinic in Jackson. Amen.

Parish Mission Statement

We, the family of St. Jude, Pearl, Mississippi are a vibrant, Eucharistic community with caring mem-bers that are empowered by baptism to serve God through the sacraments. We will proclaim the good news and provide spiritual and moral guidance to parishioners and the community by creating a holy and comforting place that encourages active participation, service to each other, and love.

FAITH AND FUN SUNDAY FEBRUARY 9, 3-5pm MARDI GRAS: PREPARING FOR LENT

Join us as we prepare for one of our church’s holiest seasons by partying! Trust-ing in the love and faith of God we gather to celebrate and to prepare ourselves to get rid of all the “things” in our lives that get between us and God, the people we love, and the people we are called to serve. Let the party of Mardi Gras begin!

For families with children in grades K – 6th. Younger children are welcome under parent supervision. 7th – 12th grades and adults can volunteer. Contact Stacy in the office is you would like to help

The next Alpha for adults will begin this Mon-day, January 20th beginning at 6:00 pm with a Meal, followed by a short video and table dis-cussion. If you have not registered it is not too late, to join the conversation. Alpha is an amazing opportunity! For me, the best part was hearing the remarkable true sto-

ries of how people turned their lives around and turned to Christ after attending Al-pha. The program feels like it is geared more toward non-believers or those who question their faith, but for those of us who are Christians and church goers, it helps to strengthen and deepen our Christian beliefs. —Shannon, participant Alpha 2

Ministry to the Homebound: Ministers share the Eucharist with those homebound pa-rishioners or area residents of nursing homes that are unable to attend weekend Mass-

es. If you or a family member is homebound, in the hospital or nursing home and would like some one to bring you Communion and pray with you, call Ginger Brown at 601-939-6365.

SAVE THE DATE: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH MARDI

GRAS BALL. MORE INFORMATION NEXT WEEK.
