It has been said that there is nothing new under the sun. This may be true when it comes to fads and fashions, culture and traditions, but whoever believes this theory applies to the whole of life does not know Christ. All things are made new in Christ. Through Christ, a new presence of God came upon the earth. With Christ, the world and our understand- ing of life is transformed. In Christ, we become a new creation. Nowhere is this newness of life nourished more than in the EUCHARIST. Our Lord comes to be with us and to nourish us under the forms of bread and wine. He is the living bread come down from heaven. He is true food and true drink. Through the Eucharist, the Lord is with us in a unique and real way. Through Jesus, the Bread of Life, God brings about a unique transformation to life in us that God intended from the beginning. Jesus tells us that nourishing our lives with himself, the New Manna, gives us eternal life. To receive Christ is to receive life. When we eat the Bread of Life we become one with the Risen Christ, which promises us a share in his resurrection. The power of the Bread of Life is unprecedented in human history. The manna of the Old Testament kept people alive physically, but they died nonetheless. Jesus, the Manna of the New Testament, gives eternal life. God’s desire that we have life is fulfilled through nourishing our souls on the Flesh and Blood of his Son. The early Church clearly understood the Eucharist as being the real presence of Christ. This is evident in our short, but concise, reading from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. In celebrat- ing the Eucharist, they knew that they were sharing in the Body and Blood of Christ. Through this reception, they were continu- ously transformed to live more Christ-like lives as members of the mystical Body of Christ. They firmly believed that this transfor- mation had a lasting, eternal effect upon their lives. We must never become so accustomed to the Eucharist that we begin to lose our understanding and value of it as a unique presence of Christ to the Church. It is the source and summit of our faith! The gift of Christ’s Eucharistic presence may be over two thousand years old, but its impact on us is ever new. The real- ity of every individual life becoming renewed by Christ in the Eucharist is ever unique, holding the promise of our own resurrec- tion and eternal life in heaven. In the patterns and routines of everyday life, we can come to think that there is nothing new under the sun, even in our celebrations of Sunday Mass. When it comes to the Eucharist, this is far from the truth. The presence and power of Jesus in our life, through the Eucharist, is ever fresh, ever new. We, who receive Christ in the Eucharist, are truly blest to have its transforming power in our lives. This will be my last column until September. I want to wish all of you a wonderful summer. Find time to relax, enjoy a good book, and enjoy family and friends. Remember to pray every day, and attend Church every weekend. God Bless, Msgr. Maresca

MASSES FOR THE WEEK

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

My Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. It has been said that there is nothing new under the sun. This may be true when it comes to fads and fashions, culture and traditions, but whoever believes this theory applies to the whole of life does not know Christ. All things are made new in Christ. Through Christ, a new presence of God came upon the earth. With Christ, the world and our understand-ing of life is transformed. In Christ, we become a new creation.

2014 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL

The theme this year is, “When we Give We Share the Light of Faith.”

I want to express my appreciation and gratitude

to everyone who has supported the appeal. Your

sacrifices and prayers have been a wonderful sup-

port and have helped us to reach our goal and go

over. Our goal is $44,615. We have pledged

$46,530 and monies collected to this date amount

to $33,288.50. This amount is from 153 donors.

GREAT JOB! Please continue to honor your

pledges. If there are some who did not pledge,

please prayerfully consider if you are able to give

at this time. Last years records show that we had

201 donors. It would be a great help to the parish

if we could achieve that goal. Remember all

monies received over goal come back to our

parish 100%.

continue to make to support this appeal. Please

know that you are remembered every day in my
