Welcome to the Master Family & Consumer Sciences Volunteer Program. Extensionvolunteers are a vital resource. Volunteers expand and make available education and resources to community members who might not otherwise be served. Through your role, you educate and motivate community members to increase their knowledge and skills around a particular discipline for informed decision making and behavior changes. In Family & Consumer Sciences, volunteers assist to strengthen families, farms, communities and the economy through programs and services. You will help people to understand the connections between food, health, agriculture, housing, finances, people, communities and more. Last, as a volunteer, you will commit to help people make informed decisions in addressing human and societal challenges.

First, you will be able to describe the purpose, structure, and resources necessary to participate in the Master Family & Consumer Sciences Volunteer Program. Second, you will gain knowledge to enable you to successfully engage in the program.

Understanding the impact of your role as a volunteer guides the need for effective training to reach and engage diverse audiences. Proper knowledge and training will enable you to facilitate Extension programming in communities. Combined with proper training, you will draw from a wide range of experience, backgrounds, and interest to aid in many roles to accomplish an array of goals. Participation in this program prepares you to serve as a knowledgeable resource in Family & Consumer Sciences in your community.

Volunteers perform a wide range of services to advance the mission of Extension. In collaboration with Extension faculty and staff, volunteers can: teach, mentor, meet, share, serve, and engage people. Volunteers can also: prepare, organize, energize, and create to serve a variety of audiences. The type of work you will do is ultimately determined by the needs of the community and the goals outlined by local, state, and national initiatives. The possibilities for volunteers are limitless.

Master Family & Consumer Sciences Volunteer Program
The Master Family & Consumer Sciences Volunteer Program is designed to train you to provide educational programming and services in communities. Depending on your area and the preference of Extension in the locality, the program will be delivered online electronically, self‐paced, or in a classroom setting. This training is structured into three interactive modules to provide training in Family & Consumer Sciences: Cooperative Extension, Leadership & Public Policy, and Marketing & Branding. Each module consists of lessons that help to communicate these three topics. There are 12 lessons in the Master Family & Consumer Sciences Volunteer Program.

The Cooperative Extension Module consists of four lessons: Cooperative Extension History, Family & Consumer Sciences History, Family & Consumer Sciences Volunteers, and Family & Consumer Sciences Core Programs. Second, Leadership and Public Policy consists of four lessons: Effective Communication, Diverse Audiences, Facilitation Skills, and Resource Development. Third, Marketing and Branding consists of four lessons: Branding Family and Consumer Sciences, Value of Family and Consumer Sciences, Value of Volunteers, and Telling Our Story.
