1.10 Programmes’s mission & objectives
The MBA programme under School of Distance Education- Assam down town University came into its existence with
a mission for achieving a credible and high performing education system ensuring quality higher education with
values, so that university‘s products with their competency and attitude can participate in the country‘s development process and respond to the requirements of the fast growing and ever globalizing knowledge based economy and the
society.
To achieve the mission, The MBA programme of ADTU has the following objectives:
1) To impart knowledge on various concepts of business management in the field of Human Resource, Marketing,
Finance, Operations etc. & their implications
2) To introduce the students to various forms of business organization.
3) To impart knowledge on corporate social responsibility.
4) To introduce students to the field of research, particularly market research and their significance
1.11 Relevance of the program with HEi’s Mission and Goals:
University’s Mission and Goals: ADTU is a private University of north eastern region of the Country. It is a
complex diverse and comprehensive institution composed of Health, Paramedical, Engineering, Management and
Nursing. Its mission is to provide scope for total development of personality, disseminate knowledge, produce creative
workforce which can contribute for development of the society there by realize the value of human life. Harness the
creative potential of the diverse citizens.
The mission statement follows a standard form of an institute having structural and functional diversity capturing in
general terms the nature of ADTU.
The MBA programme would contribute towards accomplishment of the mission and goals of ADTU in the following
manner:
1.11.1 ADTU DE MBA degree provides the academic fundamentals and thorough orientation to the core disciplines
of business management. One can attain the degree to enhance performance even while working in an
organization.
1.11.2 ADTU DE MBA has a well designed curriculum including ‗hard skills‘ of economics, finance, marketing,
operations, management, and accounting, as well as some elements "soft skills" of leadership, teamwork,
ethics, and communication necessary for effective management.
1.12 Nature of Prospective target group of learners:
Underprivileged section of society MBA correspondence course offers several career options among the
underprivileged section of society at a lower cost of education.
Working Professionals/ Service Personnel The ADTU-DE MBA Program is also a right fit for working
professionals in the lower or mid-level management, who are not able to complete their masters, and maybe
experiencing a stalled career stage, as a result. The tech-powered learning solutions of ADTU-DE enables working
professionals to pursue their distance learning MBA with ease and convenience — anytime, anywhere. They may even

ADTU‘s distance education MBA uses our unique expertise to develop leaders and managers who are equipped to face the future and create thriving projects in challenging times.
A student holding an MBA degree has a higher value with respect to performance and knowledge. A managerial job is
the first step to success in corporate world, which ultimately leads to the high position in top management of an
organization. Today, there is plethora of opportunities in the field of management. Considering this, it can be said that
the scope of an MBA degree is vast and diverse.
1.14 Instructional Design:
1.5.1 Curriculum Design: The curriculum of MBA programme is prepared by the Board of Studies (BoS) of each discipline
under different domain by following the guidelines like model syllabi etc. of the relevant regulatory body ie DEB-UGC. During
the process of framing the curricula, inputs from eminent academicians and industry professionals are also accommodated. The
activity of curriculum design is carried out time to time, updated whenever felt necessary. The curricula prepared by the BOSs
are then placed before the Academic Council of the University for necessary approval.
Structure of the MBA programme is provided in Annexure I and Detailed Syllabi is provided in Annexure II
1.5.2 Duration of the programme 2 Years/4 Semesters of 6 months. If a student fails in the term end examination, the
maximum time limit to clear all the courses is 4 years. In the first and second semester students are required to study the core
courses whereas in the third and fourth semester, students are required to study courses of specialization selected by them. The
course comprises of two semesters of core courses and two semesters of specialization courses.
ADTU DE MBA program includes a total of 5 specializations that are as follows:

1.5.3 Project work Guidelines:

The students have to submit their Dissertations/Project Reports (in duplicate) only at the end of the course period. For
the submission of the project, students are given a grace period of 1 month after final semester examination.
Duration of the projects – PG programs- 45 days
Student will have to associate with one internal guide from the University and one external guide from their own, if
needed. The selected guide should be a person with Assistant professor/Associate professor in the relevant subject. The
student should get approval for the selected topic and the guide chosen before the commencement of the
project/dissertation work by sending the filled form for the selection of topic for dissertation to the Head of the
department concerned of S.D.E along with stamped self addressed cover. New form should be submitted to the Head of
the Department concerned to change the already approved topic or guide or both.
Spiral binding or paper binding of the project is not permitted. Only hard binding projects are accepted. A photocopy
of the topic approval should be pasted on the first page of the project report. Guide‘s certificate and declaration by the candidate should form the next two pages of the dissertation.
Pages required for the project – PG programs 22,000 words and 80-100 pages
1.5.4 Faculty and support staff requirement ADTU DE has two Assistant Professors and two Associate Professors
per programme/ per Specialization and 1 Section Officer, 2 Assistants, 2 computer Operators and 2 student counselors
at H.O for the student support service.
1.5.5 Instructional delivery mechanisms The following instructional instruments are provided to the learners of
management programme.
1.5.6 Self Learning Materials (SLM): SLM of MBA programme is designed and prepared by the members of ADTU
management department and also by experts of other universities/ institutes jointly. Home kits are provided to
students.
1.5.7 Media: The details of media used are provided below:
1) Computer aided Learners can communicate through ADTU official website www.adtu.in. The
services offered through website are Notification of programme commencement , Information
about the programme, Academic calendar, Prospectus (syllabus, fees, course duration etc
etc.), Address admission related query, Student support facility pre & post admission,
Assignment/ Exam notification, Exam form fill up/ exam fee payment (online), Assignment/Exam
result declaration, Computer conferences and recorded lectures are sometimes uploaded on the
website.
2) Student support service systems ADTU DE provides face to face tutorials and counseling.
3) Learner support services (Online App) ADTU DE facilitates its MBA learners with the ICT based services for ex:
Self learning materials.
4) Learners can reach for Academic help via email id [email protected] / [email protected] which are
addressed by the faculty members
5) A facebook page by the name of Assam down town University is created where the learners can communicate with
their issues.
6) Interactive session ie Orientation programs for both students and teaching staffs are conducted session wise, Lecture
sessions, workshops, seminars are conducted.
7) Credit hours A 4 credit per course. This programme has 96 credits in total.

1.15 Procedure for admissions, curriculum transaction and evaluation:

Mark sheets & certificates pattern apart from 10+2+3+2 or 3 and 10+2+4+2 or 3 should be accompanied by
explanation as per the mentioned pattern.
University at any point of student life cycle may ask for documents in case student provides unclear documents.
On Enrollment
Student will receive the following:
Registration/Welcome letter
Prospectus in hard copy
Course material in hard copy and soft copy (via email if required)
Fee receipt
University I-Card
The above mentioned will be sent to student in a span of 30-60 working days from the date of enrollment
*Prospectus can be bought prior to admission as well.
Submission of Fees and Admission form does not mean that admission is confirmed. The admission will be treated as enrolled
only after Registration Number has been generated by University.
The registration number will consist of University name/Enrollment type/Session/Course Name/Student Category/three digit
Reg. No. and needs to be communicated for every correspondence with the university.
Provisional Admissions
Provisional admissions will be given under the following circumstances if it has been accompanied with a student undertaking
letter in following cases:
1. All mandated educational documents have not been submitted & student is asking for additional time
2. Final Year student who has appeared for the examination & submitted hall ticket as proof
3. If the payment of mentioned fees of that particular course is not complete
Provisional admissions will be cancelled if the information provided by student is found incorrect or if the student fails to
submit the required documents within 2 months/60 days. In such cases, the fees already paid will be forfeited.
Note: Provisional admissions are considered as booking only. This does not imply any confirmation of student‘s admission.

Specialization Change
Students need to fulfill the following criteria for being eligible.
Specialization change is available within 6 months from the date of admission. All such requests should be submitted
only in written at [email protected]. No verbal request shall be entertained
Application form for specialization change to be dully filled in by student.
Rs. 2000 processing fees to be deposited in ADTU bank a/c. (Cheque/DD/Inter Bank Transfer/Counter slips (cash
deposit, cheque deposit, DD)
The specialization change request will be processed within 15 working days from the application date.

Graduation in any stream with PG Diploma in management from a recognized university,
Or
Graduate in any stream having minimum 3 years industrial experience,
Or
M.Com/MBE/MBA/MFC/MMT from any UGC recognized university/ AICTE approved institution.

1.6.5 Financial Assistance
RULES ABOUT SCHOLARSHIP
The student, for his/her admission has to forward the duly filled in and completed application form along with the prescribe
fees.
a) BPL Scholarship: This scholarship will be provided to meritorious BPL student. They will get 100% course fee waived .The
student should provide the BPL card before admission. Once one student enrolled for normal procedure and then afterwards he
claimed for BPL will not be consider as BPL student.

b) Entry Level Scholarships: These scholarships are applicable based on the marks of the entry level examination like
SEBA/CBSE/ISC etc etc.
c) Result scholarship: These scholarships are provided to the toppers of the respective University's Annual or Semester
Examinations. The scholarship can be up to 50% of the semester subsequent to the one in which the result was scored.
d) Merit Scholarship: These scholarships will be provided to the meritorious students, relatively economically
backward families. The scholarship can be up to 100% and will be decided case to case basis, by a special committee appointed
by the University.
e) In House Student Scholarship:. In-house student will get the following benefits also as per schedule:
25% or 50% discount (based on the session of admission) on the course fee.
1.6.6 Curriculum transaction
The guidelines for the overall academic activities in the MBA programme shall be made available in an activity planner at the
time of admission.
1.6.7 Evaluation process
Details of Evaluation Procedure
The examination system for BBA programme of distance education under Assam down town University is a combination of
internal assignment and end semester examination (ESE).
1. Exam Schedule
1.1 End semester exam will be conducted two times in a year viz. June (odd semester) and December (even semester)
1.1 Exam will start from the first week of the exam month as per the academic calendar.
2. Exam Evaluation
The evaluation of theory papers are carried out on the basis of end semester examination and internal assignment. Each
paper carries 100 marks for the final assessment. ESE is conducted for 70 marks based on the entire syllabus. The Internal
assignment carries 30 marks. The ESE consists of 20 marks MCQ and 50 marks subjective type questions and in internal
assignment questions are subjective type.
Details of Assessment: The students are assessed through both internal and external assessment.
Internal Assessment:
Internal assessment is carried out by giving assignment work to the students. The assignment work consists of 30 marks
subjective type questions. The student has to submit their assignment copies to the University address through registered post or
by hand. 50% mark is passing criteria for internal assessment. There is one assignment per paper.
External Assessment:
External assessment is the end semester examination (ESE) conducted at the end of each semester. The ESE consists of 20
marks MCQ and 50 marks subjective type questions. In the MCQ section there will be maximum 20 MCQ type questions and

subjective type minimum 5 questions will be there. The total time duration for the ESE is 2 hours 30 min. Exams will be
conducted on the last month of the respective semester term, only on Saturday(s) & Sunday(s).
3 Pre Examination Activities for students:
a. Eligibility criteria and registration for term end examination
In order to appear for examination students are required to submit online exam registration form which will be made available
on respective university websites before 30 days from the beginning of examination and will be available for 15 days. Students
are eligible for exam only after
Completion of minimum required duration for the program / semester is 90 days (3 months) from the date of
enrollment.
Exam form will not be accepted if assignments are completed in last seven days of filling of exam form.
No Re-attempt Charges for Assignment if Student fails in any assignment
Successful submission of exam form which will be available on students corner section on website
Payment of applicable program fee till the time of examination
Payment of applicable exam fees for fresh/backlogs papers.
Only students with confirmed admission are eligible. Others in case of admission is not confirmed are required to
complete pending formalities like incomplete documents, fees etc. before exam and get admission confirmed in order
to be eligible within the time period.
There has to be a gap of six month between two fresh semester appearances, however backlogs can be attempted in
consequent exam cycle.
b. Post Examinations Activities:
Preservation of answer script in the strong room.
Appointment of examiner /Evaluator/ scrutinizer.
The evaluation work will be carried out centrally at the University campus.
Answer script will be issued to the respective evaluator for evaluation along with the instruction copy and model
answer script if necessary.
The evaluated answer scripts will be scrutinized by the respective scrutinizer.
The marks will be entered into the marks foil and will be submitted to the Controller of Examination (CoE) along with
the evaluated and scrutinized answer script.
Tabulation work will be carried out by the faculty members appointed by CoE.
Preparation of pre-result statistics by the tabulators.
Placement of the pre-result statistic upon the Exam committee for suggestion & necessary action.
Finalization of the result by the tabulators as per the suggestion put forward by the Exam committee.
Placement of the final result sheet before the Dean or VC (in absence of the Dean) for final approval.
Declaration of the final result within 45 days from the completion of the exam.
Display of the result on the university notice board and website as well.
Issue of mark sheet to all candidates and certificates to the qualified candidates
In case a student finds any error in his/ her result, the same has to be informed in writing / email to exam department
within 15 days.

3.3 Issue of Certificate
The pass certificate will be issued to the entire students within 60 days of declaration of result who have successfully
qualified the exam. However, the original certificate will be issued at the time of university convocation upon
registration for the same separately. The convocation date will be displayed on the university website at due course of
time.
Re-checking of exam paper:
Application form for rechecking of exam papers can be downloaded from university website.
Processing fee per paper is Rs. 500
The tenure of rechecking is one month from the date of result declaration.
The re checking of answer script and declaration of the result (re checking) will take place subsequently just after the
last date of application.
1.7 Requirement of the laboratory support and Library Resources:
1.7.1 Laboratory Support University has its devoted equipment and Basic Computer Lab with an
aggregate assessed 20 machines, Programming Lab with 60 machines, Linux Lab with 30 and related hardware
and software. IT facilities are improved day by day. All monitors are made by LED Screen.
1.7.2 Library Resources
Library is fully automated using Integrated Library Management System (ILMS). H. N. Dutta Baruah Central Library is a
repository of information on different disciplines such as engineering, management, nursing, pharmacy, hospitality,
paramedical and allied health. The Library started its collection and development of print/ non-print media from the year 2010
and has now collected 20,342 more books and 422CD/DVD. Library has own website and adopted new emerging tools like
Web 2.0 tools, Q R Code and CCTV etc. Library has partially automated and facilitate computerized Catalogue Search
Services though OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Users can search and browse their particular documents through
Subjects, Author, Title, and Publishers, ISBN etc. The search facility is also available online. This service is restricted to access
within university campus through internet. The process is under way to host the Web OPAC. The Library also provides an
excellent Photostat facility, which is available within the Library and User-Orientation Programmes are continuously being
undertaken in the Library for newly admitted students. Books are classified subject wise and arranged according to the Dewey
Decimal Classification (DDC – 23 rd Ed.) scheme. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all days except holidays. In the
library we have 3 English and 2 Assamese newspapers and 08 journals subscribed. The library has one online databases namely
J-Gate through browse 145399 Full Text journals as per date on 28/12/17.We have circulation section, reference section, E-
library section and apart from these there is a common reading hall in the library. Its intake capacity is 120. Library offers ILL
facility to users on the basis of requests and demands can be made in person, over phone or via email with access to documents
which are not available in our library. Postal and photocopying expenses/charge shall be born and paid by the intenders/users
and our library also an institutional membership of British Council Library.
1.8 Cost estimate of the programme and the provisions:
The Department of Accounts & Finance of ADTU keeps all the records of expenses regarding print of Self Learning Materials
(SLM), remuneration to the members and staff, honorarium paid to content writers, all editors, translators, proof readers,
expenses related to workshop, meeting expenses of various study centers etc.
Moreover the Accounts team also maintains records of purchase of computers, online space, purchase of books & journals. The
Accounts are maintained as per laid down procedures of Income Tax Department.
As regards to cost of programme development, programme delivery and programme maintenance, the Accounts & Finance
Department conduct an exercise based on historical costing method to arrive at indicative figure of cost.
The findings are presented below in respect of MBA programme.

1.8.1 Programme Development Cost Approx. : Rs.2,40,000/-
Self Learning Materials (SLM) Development cost for MBA per paper is Rs.10,000/-
Printing cost of Self Learning Materials (SLM) Approx. - Rs. 135/-
1.8.2 Programme Delivery Cost:-
The Self Learning Materials (SLM) has to be delivered to various study centers located throughout the entire and
outside the region. On an average, the University delivers about 25 kgs of study materials per student.
The cost of delivery of 1 kg of such materials is Rs. 35/-. Therefore the average delivery cost of Self Learning
Materials (SLM) per student is Rs.875/- Depending upon the number of student enrolled.
1.8.3 Programme Maintenance Cost:-
The Accounts & Finance team of the University keeps financial provision for organizing meetings, workshops etc., as
per the academic plan and academic calendar approved by the Academic Council of University.
The University bears the entire cost for organizing the meeting / seminar/ workshop and also invests in IT
infrastructure so that learners can benefit from it
Maintenance cost for MBA programme per student is approx., Rs. 3,500/- per student.
1.8.4 The figures as indicated above is applicable for MBA programme of the University. The University keeps
adequate financial budget / provision for development, delivery and maintenance of the programme presented as
per the Programme Project Report.
1.9 Quality assurance mechanism and expected programme outcomes:
1.9.1 Quality Assurance Mechanism:
1) The Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA) has been set up recently. (CIQA) has contributed significantly for
institutionalizing the quality assurance strategies and processes
2) Quality circles in the departments of University have already been formed, the process of collecting various
information and suggestions have already been initiated. The University has already appointed a director quality
control to look after the quality aspects of the University.
3) This will look after the review of teaching and learning process, structures & methodologies of operations and learning

Project Works are included in the curricula MBA programs. These courses are credited and one has to pass for
successful completion of the program.
Periodic workshops for teaching staff and students are also conducted.
5) For Participative Learning
The class delivery are made interactive using ICT facility, teachers make the class interactive by group discussions,
question and answer sessions.
Tutorials are also conducted for participative learning where students can clear their doubts.
6) For Problem Solving
Assignments are given to encourage self-learning and problem solving.

Develop in students those management skills that will assist them in becoming influential leaders in their profession
