Admission Requirements All applicants to the Masters of Urban Planning and Design program who meet the following minimum criteria will be considered for admission to Qatar University: Eligible applicants are those who have Bachelor Degrees (BSc. or BA) degrees in built environment-related disciplines including, architecture, urban design, urban planning, regional planning, Urban geography, landscape architecture, interior architecture, construction engineering, and civil engineering

Admitted students would have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 (or equivalent) from a university or college accredited by an international accrediting association or by the Ministry of Higher Education or equivalent in that country. The minimum GPA requirements can be waived if the candidate achieved a score of no less than 650 on the Quantitative part of the GRE exam, while there is no specified minimum for the Analytical part but score will be part of evaluation. Language requirement is achieving a minimum score of 520 on the paper-based TOEFL, 68 iBT-Internet based, 190 CBT-computer-based, 6 IELTS or equivalent test. TOEFL or equivalent test results are valid only for two years from the date of the test.

The recent rapid development of Qatar and the Gulf region is associated with a fast track urbanization process, marked by large scale mixed use developments and regeneration projects. The unprecedented growth in urban development industry, has created a pressing demand for planners and urban designers with specialized training to design, plan and direct the activities of the industry. Therefore Our program addresses these challenges.

Goal: The goal of the Master of Urban Planning and Design Program-MUPD is to educate future planners and urban designers to guide the development of the social, economic, natural and built environments with the general goal of improving the quality of life in cities.

Structure: The program is structured in four semesters involving 45 credit hours in addition to a summer session in the final year. The first year includes core courses, and the second year includes a specialized track either in Urban Design or Urban Planning and a thesis project. All classes are offered in the evening and the

coursework is organized as outlined:

As well, graduates may have opportunities to work with some international organizations that address developmental and environmental issues including UNESCO, UNDP, and other international NGOs..
